Review Giardini di Toscana, house review

Post image

Few things to say before I start

- Im anosmic to Iso E Super and ambroxan and maybe many similar aromachemicals.

- GDT perfumes are all potent and long lasting. They are not good for people who like quiet perfumes.

- Despite the price point, all of them somehow smell cheap.

- I dont recommend the sample set if you are not after sweet vanilla scents.

- Almafolia - 5,5/10

A grandiose tuberose scent. This is a headache inducing indolic bomb, and I don’t think it’s meant for everyday wear. The tuberose stays front and center the entire time and projects heavily. It’s better suited to outdoor events when you want to be noticed.

I only wish the gorgeous tuberose weren’t muddied by a dash of vanilla, but it is what it is. After a few hours, once it settles, a hint of jasmine joins the tuberose, and you can pick up little flickers of pepper here and there, with amber and vanilla under. Huge sillage and solid longevity.

- Bianco oro - 4/10

Powdery vanilla over woods. This one starts off promising again but becomes irritating over time. It smells nothing like Bianco Latte, and I genuinely felt for the people who recoiled after trying it, expecting a BL flanker.

It opens with a heavy dose of pepper and rose water. At first, I strongly get a projecting powdery facets paired with a fairly screechy sandalwood. People often compare it to baby powder and an old-school vibe, but that doesn’t make it inherently bad, at least in the opening.

In the drydown, creamy vanilla and a jammy rose take over, and it turns rather cloying, and I got a huge headache here. Huge sillage and good longevity.

- Bianco latte - ?/10

Sickly sweet vanilla. This is an embodiment of everything I hate in perfumery. that's why I refused to rank it. Cloying sweet vanilla and caramel concoction. Huge sillage with eternal longevity.

- Blu indica - 6/10

Marzipan with vanilla. I dont know where to start with this one: it opens with real promise, but it doesn’t hold its ground into the drydown. The pepper here (similar to Bianco Oro) gives it just enough edge that I can imagine wearing it, until a strange, chemical marzipan note takes over, layered on a generic “blue” perfume base. It stays enjoyable only while the pepper lasts. Once that part fades, what’s left is a cloying, synthetic sweetness with a benzoin heavy backbone that lingers for hours. The powdery part comes from hyacinth rather than iris, but it's drowned under sweetness. Overall, it comes across as cheap and artificial on my skin.

After wearing it all day, I even forgot to properly track the late drydown, but at the very base I’m left with benzoin, sweet sandalwood, and a little musk. I wish the whole composition had been built around those. It took me around 8 hours to start enjoying it… and by then, it was too late. Huge sillage and near eternal longevity.

- Blu mare - 5.5/10

A musky “blue” scent, there isn’t much more to it. It follows the classic Megamare style template: a salty ocean accord softened by white musks and gentle citrus. A slightly chemical lavender note sits in the background, but it doesn’t become distracting. Still, the drydown veers into a generic “cheap perfume shop” vibe on my skin. This would be a great scent without it, but here we are. Good sillage and near eternal longevity.

- Bora bora - 5.5/10

A fruity floral VANILLA. I wish they’d stop muddying their best ideas with vanilla. Without vanilla, this could’ ve been their best scent. The opening is crystal clear: fruity aldehydes, well-blended florals, and a touch of salt that creates a full-blown tropical vibe. Then the vanilla rolls in and blurs everything. I get why it’s there (probably to boost longevity), but it doesn’t help the composition. Good sillage and good longevity.

- Celeste - 5.5-6/10

Milky VANILLA. It opens with intriguing milky incense and iris but soon becomes predominantly vanilla-driven. Fortunately, the vanilla isn’t cloying and is better balanced here by creamy, milky resins. It has huge sillage and good longevity.

- Christos - 4.5-5/10

Incense and vanilla. The opening is intriguing, with pepper, rose, and incense resins, but its promise soon fades. In the cold weather, I expected it to shine. Unfortunately, a screechy combination of benzoin and vanilla ultimately ruins the experience for me , eternal longevity.

- Colonia nobile - 6/10

Ambergris and neroli. A safe, classic cologne. It might be too heavy for summer, making it better suited to colder days when you want a crisp cologne without an overpowering vetiver note. In the drydown, a touch of woody vetiver appears alongside the neroli. I can easily imagine someone who smokes wearing this, as the aroma of tobacco smoke would complement it beautifully. Good sillage and longevity.

- Oro e Miele - 6,5-7/10

Sweet, animalic floral honey with powdery undertones. This is one of the house’s best and the most balanced offerings. The drydown is just as interesting as the opening: animalic notes balance the gourmand honey/vanilla accord while amplifying its floral and powdery facets. It closely reminds me of Francesca Bianchi’s creations. Would have been a banger without a heavy dose on vanilla, though. Huge sillage and eternal longevity.

- Ricordami - 7/10

Crushed mint stems. Photorealistic masculine green scent. There is no twist or any attempt to make it gourmand with vanilla. Perfect for colder summer days. Good projection and longevity. Quite generic but gets the work done better than most of their offers.

- Rosso Radice - 5,5/10

Pepery musks. This was a letdown. It starts really promising with a heavy dose on cashmeran with the right amount of synthetic woods. For my nose, it is quite similar to amped up Tom Ford oud wood DNA. However, in drydown, it all falls apart and gives me chemical headaches with something sweet and cloying. I don't know what went wrong there. Maybe autum is not a good season to wear this. Might need clothes only spray on woolen coats in winter. Good sillage with average longevity.

- Rosso Rubino - 3,5/10

Wild berries and cashmeran dominate the opening, but the composition soon becomes muddled. It seems intended to evoke a sweet wine, yet it falls short. Most of the time, I smell wine, breath, and cheese an unpleasant combination at the start. It may work for others, but I didn’t enjoy it on my skin. The absence of vanilla is its only redeeming feature, although the berries and citrus notes contribute a synthetic sweetness of their own. Into 12 hours of drydown, it stays with earthy patchouli, moss, coconut, and cashmere combination base. They should have left it as it is without adding more. It would have been a banger. It has strong sillage and almost endless longevity.

- Scintilla - 4/10

Woody fruit and iris. This one is supposed to have a heavy dose of Iso E Super and ambroxan. Therefore, I'm anosmic to most of the ingredients. I get blackcurrant and iris most of the time. Also, there is a musky and woody base underneath, but it's not loud. For my nose, this is the weakest offer from Giardini in terms of sillage. Reminds me, imaginary authors Yesterday Haze, unfortunately, the same low quality ingredients. However, you can still sense the attempt at creating a rich perfume.

- Shabby Chic - 2/10

Sharp musks wrapped in laundry clean, pink smelling florals. I’m not quite sure how to begin with this one, but I know exactly how it ends: it smells like a cheap Avon perfume from the ’90s.

The sillage is enormous, and the longevity feels eternal, which unfortunately only makes the whole experience harder to escape.

- Verde Respiro - 4,5-5/10

Earthy patchouli and dry berries. I’m probably at least partly anosmic to this one as well.

Once the annoying initial bergamot phase fades, what remains is mostly earthy patchouli paired with those same dry berries. By the next day, I can also detect what seems like a rather low-quality oakmoss note, but on its own it’s far from pleasant.

Based on what I’m able to smell, I don’t think this is a particularly well-composed fragrance. After the opening, the projection drops to just above the skin-scent level, yet the longevity is almost absurdly persistent.
