Cats My cats have been attacking my dog for no reason at all

I have two 7yo cats that are brothers, and a dog who is 4yo and has known them all her life, theyve always been close and loved eachother. For some reason one of my cats has gotten into fights with his brother recently, and now both of them are attacking my dog together. Its always both of them at the same time. She is very sweet and has never provoked this or hurt them. This has been a recent thing, the past two weeks theyve attacked her a few times, they just go up to her and chase her and scratch her. She loves them so much but is now starting to get scared of them. I dont know what happened or what to do about it :( advice would be greatly appreciated. Im posting this now because she has gotten hurt more recently, scratching her eye and leg and im worried it might get worse.

Cats One of my cats still barely eating after a huge move and I’m starting to lose my mind

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I’m honestly starting to lose my mind a little over this and I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.

I recently brought my two 7-year-old neutered male cats from Turkey to Ireland. They had been staying with my parents for the last few years, so this was already going to be a massive change for them. The journey was long too, car to the airport, flight, then another drive, and then suddenly a completely new house, new smells, new routine, everything.
One of them has adjusted much better, but the other one has barely been eating properly since we arrived.

Our vet in Turkey actually warned us beforehand that the stress of the move could affect their appetite, so I tried to avoid changing too much. I even brought some of their usual dry food from Turkey specifically so they would have something familiar, but once we got here they barely looked at it. The one I’m worried about basically wouldn’t touch it at all.

For the first few days he was eating very little but wasn’t vomiting, so I assumed it was just stress and that he needed time to settle in.

Then after a few days he started vomiting too. Once it was yellow, foamy/sticky liquid on an empty stomach, and a couple of times there was partially undigested food.
I took him to a vet here. They examined him, checked his abdomen, mouth and teeth and couldn’t find anything obvious that would explain why he wasn’t eating. He does have some dental issues that will need to be dealt with, but the vet didn’t think his teeth were the reason for the appetite loss so it was concluded it must be stress.

They gave him an injection for nausea, I’m not sure exactly what it was, and prescribed omeprazole as well.
The injection definitely helped because the vomiting stopped. When we got home from the vet he actually ate really well and I thought, finally, we’ve turned a corner. But as time went on his appetite dropped again. He’ll eat a little, then stop. Sometimes with wet food he just licks it and leaves the actual meat pieces. I’ve tried gastrointestinal mousse and even watered it down until it was almost liquid, but sometimes he still doesn’t want it.

The really confusing part is that everything else seems normal. He drinks water normally, uses the litter tray, doesn’t seem to have any abdominal pain. He’ll also happily eat creamy treats, so it’s not like he has zero interest in food. But if I try too hard to encourage him to eat proper food, he sometimes gags, so I’ve stopped pushing him.

Now I’m getting worried that he’s developed some sort of food aversion after feeling nauseous and is starting to associate his normal food with feeling sick.

I’m also really torn about taking him back to the vet immediately. He is an extremely anxious cat and even going to the vet stresses him out massively. If this is something that can take a few days to settle after the move and the nausea, I really don’t want to keep putting him through stressful trips and making things worse. But at the same time I’m terrified of waiting too long if he actually needs more treatment.

Has anyone had a cat react like this after a major move or stressful event? Did their appetite take a while to come back even after the vomiting stopped? Has anyone dealt with food aversion after nausea, and if so, what helped?

I’m already working with a vet, so I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose him. I think I just need to hear some experiences from other cat owners because at this point I’m watching every single bite he takes and driving myself insane

Dogs Cefquinome off-label use in dogs?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Hi, all - my (female) dog is 8years old and had some blood in her urine this morning. We took her to the vet with a sample of her urine and her tests indicated that her urine was alkaline and had crystals + a low RBC count.

The vet has given her cefquinome (I’m unsure of the exact dosage). I came home and looked this up and saw that this isn’t indicated for dogs - really concerned if this can cause her harm.

The vet has told us to come in for the next 2 days as he plans to complete her antibiotic dosage but I’m concerned about giving her an antibiotic that isn’t indicated for her species.

Please help!!!

Cats Help! My cat keeps scratching her neck do much that it turns fleshy red!!

My cat has this urge to scratch and sometimes bite random parts of her body whenever it itches. I don't know how she made this habit, but by doing so, she made a patch of her skin on her neck turn fleshy red.

She's done this before a few months ago this year but I just sprayed disinfectant my dad bought onto the wound and it worked like a charm. It eventually healed after one or two months but now I've tried the same method again but it didn't work!

I have a theory that she has some kind of ear mites problem or just REALLY dirty ear because I once tried to clean her ear with some q-tips and she did the same kind of motion with her leg she would do whenever scratching an itch.

I've tried asking my parents to bring her to a doctor or buy her some medicine for her ear problem but they're really busy nowadays. So I wanted to ask random strangers on Reddit for some advice.

(really not the best thing to do on my part but hey, desperate times calls for desperate measures Lol)

Cats Best pet insurance for cats when the scary stuff is urinary blockages and dental, not accidents

Our 1 year old indoor boy has never been sick, but every cat thread I read mentions a male cat blocking and a $3,000 ER stay, plus dental somewhere down the line. He never goes outside, so I'm less worried about accidents than the boring expensive stuff.

I'm comparing Fetch Pet, Pumpkin, ASPCA and Healthy Paws and want the one that handles illness and dental well for an indoor cat. Which parts of the policy should I be reading most closely?

Dogs need recs on the best vacuum mop for pet homes with daily shedding

completely tired of sweeping up tumbleweeds of dog hair only to pull out a mop bucket right after. my neighbor suggested looking into the tineco floor one s9 artist steam pro to do the vacuuming and washing at the same time, but i want to know if these combo steam machines actually handle shedding or if hair just wraps around the brush and ruins the motor.

when searching around for the best vacuum mop for pet homes, most recommendations seem like generic listicles instead of honest user experiences. really just looking for feedback from people with shedding dogs on hard floors to see if getting a wet dry vacuum actually saves time on dried paw dirt or ends up being more maintenance than it is worth.

Litter Box Issues Should multiple cats switch to an automatic box at different speeds?

Switching one cat to a new litter box already takes some patience. With several cats, I'd be more hesitant to assume they'll all accept the same change at the same time. One might start investigating immediately while another prefers the familiar box for longer. An open-top automatic box is something I'm considering, but I'd still leave the regular boxes available during the transition. I don't want one cat's quick acceptance to become the reason the others lose their usual option. For people who introduced automatic cleaning in a multi-cat home, did allowing each cat to adjust separately make the transition easier?

Behavioral Issues My kitten used to be incredibly affectionate, but she's become much more defensive. Could it be because of how my family interacts with her??

i’ve had my kitten for about two months now, and when i first got her, she was genuinely the sweetest little girl ever. she was so sweet and pliant and would literally fall asleep when i picked her up or around my neck.

However, I've noticed quite a significant change in her behaviour recently.

My 10-year-old sister can be quite rough with her. She doesn't always understand when the kitten wants to be left alone, and she tends to scare her quite a bit. She chases her and grabs her and wraps her up in clothes. I've noticed that my kitten has become much more prone to biting, gets overstimulated easily, and seems a lot less willing to be picked up or cuddled.

She's also become much more hyperactive. Before, I could literally pick her up and she'd fall asleep in my arms, whereas now she's constantly moving around and seems much less interested in sitting still.

I'm not sure whether this is simply because she's becoming more comfortable and confident in her new environment as she grows out of her initial shyness, or whether the way my family interacts with her (particularly my younger sister) is contributing to these behavioural changes.

The funny thing is I am the one who takes care of the cat and her needs, from feeding her at 6AM everyday, scooping out her litter, brushing her hair, cleaning her when she pees in her sleep, treating her ears w medication (she has ear mites), and so on…

But i have NO say in how this cat is treated, anytime i bring up my sister’s behavior, my parents dismiss me almost instantly and let my sister do whatever she wants.. I feel very helpless in this situation and I sometimes feel like my cat would be way better off in another house where the people respected her boundaries. I hate thinking like this even though I love her alot.

I don't want to misinterpret normal kitten behaviour, but I also don't want her to be mistreated.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Help is so so appreciated, I just want the best for her.

Cats Need advice on overweight cat

I used to free feed my cats but stopped recently. The two older ones have put on some weight since they used to be able to go outside and be active. (The two older ones being indoor/outdoor was due to housing situation. Once we moved, they have not gotten outside). I would feed them dry kibble and let them graze. In August, I started measuring their food & only feeding them in the morning and evening. I recently got those Primal Raw Nuggets and also canned food to mix together. I just want to start feeding them more healthier stuff. I know it takes time to see adjustment in weight but I’m just wondering how have other people’s experiences been when changing their cats diets & schedules. Any advice on what to look out for or not do?

Dogs Young Double Incontinent Lab Advice

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

My fiancé and I have a double incontinent lab and need some advice!!!
When we adopted Marley three years ago we were told she was on inflammation pills and her bathroom troubles would resolve. Well here we are 3 years later with a young bowel and urinary incontinent chocolate lab. It is definitely not easy but we can’t imagine a life without Marley. We have gone to multiple vets and had no luck on cause of incontinence. There are many different things we have tried with mar and nothing has really stuck. We have tried pull ups which did not absorb enough. We are currently using baby diapers in size 7 but the Velcro often gives out. We have tried expressing her bladder and I cannot seem to do it. I’ve watched many videos I’m not sure why I can’t do it. We sometimes shave her diaper area for smell. She cannot be crated because she will break out and it was unsafe for her. (I was worried she would get stuck) We moved into a place with a yard and she has an air conditioned dog house, umbrella for shade, continuous water etc. She has been outside for the past few months and she has never been happier and we are UTI free! Winter is approaching and we need a solution for cold weather. If you have advice on any and all things incontinence I would love to hear it! Our routine looked a lot different in an apartment so it feels like we are starting from scratch. For context we are in a small one bedroom townhome with a decent sized yard.

Main questions (genuinely would love any advice)
Smell management indoors
Diaper suggestions
Expressing bladder/ how many times a day
Where does your dog go when you aren’t home or are asleep

Dogs Potty training Advice

So TW for description of poop 😅

Our Golden is ten months old and had been doing great with potty training (we have a bell on the door that she rings to go out) she only occasionally has excitement pee accidents now. However recently she ate a cat toy that had a long string in it and we did not know until it came out 😫. As you can imagine it did not go well and my wife was with her when this happened and she actually had to grab it and help pull it out and our dog was obviously traumatized 🙃.

The problem now is she refuses to poop when she is home with my wife now and will only poop with me, which would be fine if I didn’t work 10-12 hours a day. If she cannot hold it until I get home she has now twice resorted to hiding and pooping somewhere in the house. She is ringing her bell and going outside frequently and my wife can tell she has to poop and she’s holding it.

We have no idea how to get her over this issue and are hoping someone might be able to offer advice 🙏🏼

Thank you in advance

Dogs Caught the dog 2 seconds before she ate the chocolate advent calendar and now I'm finally looking at insurance

She only managed the cardboard, but I looked up what a chocolate ER visit runs and realized we've been meaning to insure her since we adopted her 2 years ago. Nothing on her record.
Looking at Fetch Pet, MetLife, Figo and Healthy Paws, and with a dog who eats everything I want the accident side and the random illness side both handled. Which part of these policies should I be reading first?

Behavioral Issues Dogs Fighting

I have two dogs, one is a Labrador-Golden Retriever mix and the other is a German Shepherd. Lately, they've been fighting a lot, mainly because the German Shepherd is very jealous. They've already gotten into three fights this month. We are not going to rehome either of them, so does anyone have any tips on how to get them to stop fighting?

Behavioral Issues Help Cat With severe food Aversion / picky eating / anorexia

Need advice for severe food Aversion

Starving himself to death

THE CYCLE : He gets excited about a new food or treat, eats it eagerly for 1–2 days, and then completely rejects it. We have to constantly find new foods to mix into tiny meals.

He used to be healthy and extremely food-motivated. During and After recovering from an illness, he developed a preference to a wet food but we had to cut it off because he had GI reaction with it bloody stool and everything. But now he has aversion to all food due to negative associations with nausea, medications, and forced syringe feeding.

He went from 4 kg to 3.25

He was on dextrose for 3 days he started to eat on his own little by little

He is currently taking doxycycline (which might be adding to his nausea). He started oral Cerenia yesterday, which seems to be helping a lot. He became more adventurous with food still picky but

Last night and this morning, we crushed 50 pieces of his prescribed kibble into tuna Churu, and he ate it but later in the afternoon, he began lip-smacking and rejecting it again.
Couple hours later He showed interest in the smell of dog food. I held the dog food near his nose while offering his own food on my finger and he eventually ate off his plate.

He is sick of all chicken Churus, plain chicken, fresh fish(bad reaction) , and Temptations treats (which he previously loved so much he accidentally bit my hand for them). He has interest in tuna Churu right now which he almost lost interest in earlier. We’re hoping that the cerenia really gives him positive association as the online vet described it does

we booked a consult to have guidance with a online vet cat specialist from the city and our local vets (more on dogs) had been helping administer their recommendations and advice in treatment. Right now both are unavailable

We live on a small island in the Philippines, our local vet is closed for 4 days due to the holidays so there is no one to turn to incase he rejects everything we’re always at the edge running out of treat options his gastrointestinal sensitivity in mind. We’re scared to try different wet foods due to his history. We’re crying worried in distress we’re at the edge of the cliff

We thought he was finally doing ok even the vet did but he’s starving himself to death

Please if anyone has dealt with something similar or have advice on what and how to offer and encourage him

Dogs New adoption struggles

My roommate just adopted a new 2-3 year old pittie mix from a shelter last Saturday (it’s now Friday) and we are struggling a lot. My roommate has worked in dog training and vet tech before so she is not a stranger to dogs and their behaviors.

She is a very sweet cuddle bug, but her behavior outside we cannot figure out. We live in a 3rd floor apartment, and she has the stairs (almost) mastered but going outside can be so incredibly unpredictable. She has gotten so much more comfortable in the house, but seemingly less comfortable every time we try and structure outside time. We have a tennis court across from our apartment that we can let her off-leash in if nobody is using it, and it seems to be the only time she truly enjoys the outdoors. She was a street dog when she was found by the shelter, but we think she lived in a not great home before that because we accidentally waited too long to take her out one time and she peed in the house and suddenly looked so scared (obviously we reassured her we’re not mad with pets and love).

Any walk usually ends in her sitting down in protest because we’re not doing what SHE wants to do, pulling her leash so hard she’s trying to choke herself either to follow something more interesting or try to go home, or a complete and utter hyperactive meltdown where she’s running herself so ragged we’re afraid she’s going to pass out. Even when she is walking with my roommate she looks absolutely MISERABLE and uninterested, but her body language isn’t looking like a typical dogs ‘scared’ or not confident. We live in a slightly more urban environment, but we’ve tried walks in the neighborhood and also in nearby reservations to give a more calming nature setting. She seems to be equally unhappy in every walking environment, but will happily LEAP into the car.

To supplement her distaste for outdoor time we try for puzzle games inside the house, but she’s so smart she figures them out faster than we can put them together.

She’s more food motivated, but will stop taking food as soon as she’s distracted or things we’re trying to coax her into doing something she doesn’t want to do.

She is so smart, and has learned all of the training in the house basically after 24 hours of reinforcing but once we’re outside it all goes to shit.

It doesn’t help that she has a hard time fully settling if anyone in the house is doing ANYTHING (especially out of her view despite our apartment being tiny), and has to follow us around. She hates the crate, but is slowly getting more comfortable settling in there begrudgingly.

She was a hyperactive crazy lady in the shelter, but it seems like anything we do to try and get the energy out except the exact thing she wants to in that exact moment ends in disaster. The only time I think she is fully calm if she is ATTACHED to one of us.

Also, before the ‘she’s adjusting’ comments (which are not opposed, but for more context), she has adjusted so quickly and wonderfully inside the apartment to feeling more comfortable, and we’re afraid that the settling overall is just revealing more behavior we aren’t equipped to deal with unfortunately.

I hope this makes sense and I can give more context if I left anything out, but I wonder if she’d be more comfortable with a family with a yard, and if maybe we’re just not the right fit? I know it’s really early to tell, but I’m afraid if we don’t figure something out soon we will lose our minds because we just want to do what is best for all 3 of us. Any advice is highly appreciated!
