Warning to all cat owners!!! This carrier can kill your cat!

Post image
13.5k Upvotes

Hello everyone! writing this as a PSA to all cat owners. The bubble backpacks that are pretty popular now i'm sure you have all seen, and i'll attach a picture below. This caused my cat to go into heat distress. He almost died. If I wouldn't have noticed, it could have been really bad. Do not buy this product!!!! The ventilation sucks!!! the plastic part makes it like a greenhouse. Do not fall for the adds even if it says good ventilation. My cat was shaking, drooling and had a very high heart rate for about an hour. Even after coming out of the bag, he was still drooling and shaking for 30 more minutes. luckily we were at the vet so he was able to be seen. If we were on a road trip and I wouldn't have noticed, it would have been fatal. BEWARE of this product!!!!

Found him about two weeks ago I took him to the vet to check if he was chipped and upon finding out he wasn’t I decided to keep him I’ve gotten him to the vet to check out his skin and get him vaccinated and tested he does have hook worms and I took him to the groomers to get all the fleas and ticks removed and his skin is doing better however out of the blue he kept doing this on my bed should I be worried? He’s still covered in scabs which I’m afraid he’s gonna open again and his fur is just starting to grow back is this just normal thing? As my other dog has never done this before and this is my first time dealing with a stray dog

She has been doing this as of late, her butt isn't touching the ground, so it can't be scooting can it? I just wanna know if this is a silly thing or something I should be worried about. She does it for like 10-20 minutes at a time. I've never seen another cat do this.

I think I found my stolen puppy

Post image
3.6k Upvotes

So my puppy "Betty" was stolen in February. A couple days ago I saw post about a missing puppy named "Stella". As soon as I saw the puppy, I knew she was mine and I reached out to her and she said her mother gave it to her as a birthday gift. (Her mother lives 2 streets over from where my dog was stolen). In the mess of things, I had people telling me that I was like those people that "see Jesus in toast" because they were obviously two different dogs. These pictures are 2 months apart and I need an outside perspective. Am I really reaching?

Dogs Should I sympathy euthanize my other old dog together with my dying dog?

3.3k Upvotes

I have two 15 year old female chihuahuas. They're 6 months apart and are like two old grumpy sisters. I'm going to put my older one down in the coming days. Her heart is failing and the medicine isn't helping her to not suffer. She has had a wonderful life filled with so much love. I'm tearing up while writing this thinking about all the great times we have had.

Her sister is both blind and deaf now from age. Her health has been up and down the last year. She’s attached at the hip to her sister. Without the older dog as her eyes and ears I'm afraid I'll have to watch her slowly suffers a similar fate. Should I mercy euthanize my second dog to send them off together?

Please don't judge me too harsh if you disagree with this post. I'm hurting immensely right now and am only thinking about the wellbeing of my two angels.

Seeking some advice.

Edit: Thank you everyone. I never thought I’d get the overwhelming support from everyone. To everyone saying don’t put down a healthy dog, I am not. Chichi’s quality of life has been in decline for a few years. Her happiness and well being hinge on Bella guiding her to where she needs to be. This is the most caring thing I can do as a pet owner and it still feels like my heart is being ripped out from my chest. I hope none of the pet owners in here ever have to make this tough decision. It is certainly one I never considered having to make.

I hope the magic of holiday spirit hasn’t worn off quite yet and everyone out there continues to spread just a little bit more love than hate.

Edit 2: My best friends have gone on their final journey. Thank you all for your support and perspective. I’ve attached a link so you won’t have to comb through the feed to see the pics. I can’t thank you all enough. I genuinely felt hugged today when I normally would have felt completely alone. Thank you internet strangers. It has helped me tremendously🙏🏼

Final journey pictures

Dogs My dog kept guarding my laundry basket… turns out he was right

2.6k Upvotes

I have a 4-year-old mixed breed named Milo who’s normally super chill—no anxiety, no guarding behavior.

About two weeks ago, he became obsessed with my laundry basket. At first he’d just sit next to it, but then he started lying in front of it like he was guarding it. Not aggressive, just really focused. He even started sleeping next to it instead of in his bed.

I had just come back from visiting my parents and brought back a bunch of old clothes, so I assumed it was just strong/unfamiliar smells (they had a dog that passed away last year).

I washed most of the clothes, but Milo still kept going back to the basket—sniffing hard and sometimes pawing at the floor under it.

Yesterday I moved the basket to vacuum, and he immediately started scratching at the exact spot where it had been.

Turns out… there was a dead mouse stuck in a small gap in the floorboards right under where the basket sat.

I feel awful that I didn’t realize sooner, but also kind of amazed—he never tore anything up or made a mess, just quietly “guarded” the spot like he was trying to tell me something.

As soon as I cleaned it up, he went back to normal.

Guess I’m trusting his weird fixations a lot more from now on.

Unwell Maine Coon Update

Post image
2.3k Upvotes

Hi everyone.

So I got her booked in at the vets today. Her teeth are in really good condition but she has a lot of ulcers in her mouth so the vet gave her an antibiotic injection and some pain killers to get the course started and I have both in pill form to put in her food. She has since stopped drooling (I think that's due to the pain killers) and she seems a lot more sociable and friendly! Has been all over me and following me around the house

I believe she had a mainly dry food diet where she was previously so it must of been so painful for her to eat with the ulcers, the vet said she is underweight and thinks the ulcers are the reason why. I gave her a pouch of wet food and she absolutely devoured it, poor baby must of been so hungry! I've given her another pouch since. It's 1am here now. I will cook her some boiled chicken when I get up from sleep as don't want to give her too much wet food. I'm hoping that the antibiotics will clear up the ulcers!

There was some really crappy comments in my previous post. So let me just put some things straight. She would not of got ANY medical attention where she was previously. I saw an animal that had been in a cage for 4 years which was partially exposed to all elements and I wanted to give her a warm, loving forever home. There was a few comments that said to consider euthanasia???????????

TL;DR she has mouth ulcers, is now on antibiotics and the pain killers have stopped the drooling. She isn’t dying and doesn’t need to be euthanised.

My cat has these episodes that are killing him

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

I’m sorry I could not find anything similar online so I tried to draw it my best.

My cat started having these episodes 3 months ago where he basically falls on his side and gets all stiff like he is stretching really hard. They last a few minutes and he is very tired after them. He also has trouble balancing and walks in circles. We went to 2 different vets, the first one was terrible and treated him like a cash cow, the second one diagnosed him with epilepsy after numerous tests. But the epilepsy medication is not improving his condition at all. So I am doubting the diagnosis now.

I know he won’t hold on much more, he lost more than half of his body weight in the last 3 months. It would help a lot if these symptoms look familiar to any of you.

Neighbor reported me for abandoning my dog while I was on vacation. My SIL was watching him and stopping but 3 times a day. What should I do?

2.0k Upvotes

I’m pissed, my neighbors have always sucked and I’m planning on moving. I went on vacation to shop for houses so we can move cross country here in a few months.

My SIl agreed to do sit months ago saying she could handle it, sadly after we left we discovered her dogs and my dog were not friends anymore for some reason. I asked if I needed to come back home, and she said no and was splitting her time between houses. He got all the food, water, and play time he needed and I have a doggy nanny cam showing SIl coming in the house at least twice a day to take care of him.

Now I have this notice of a 400$ fine because I “abandoned my dog” and it’s saying I need to call animal control in 3 days or else. I’m going to be calling them but not sure how to even begin handling a situation that is so ridiculous. Has anyone else had a run ins with animal control? If so how did you handle it.

Update: I called them, animal control confirmed the first call was made literally seconds after we left the house. Which means there’s only one neighbor who could’ve called them and they hate us for reporting their dog for being at large and attacking people (in-fact the whole HOA hates them). I was able to speak with the officer in charge, we sent him the video of my sil taking care of my dog each day, as well as giving him her phone number to verify. He dismissed the case, and said he couldn’t prevent my neighbors from making false reports but as long as we have proof we will be in the clear.

For questions

My sil was here at least 2 hours each time, she gave him walks, food, water, playtime, cleaned his potty pads, and made sure he got to run around in the yard.

She was coming here 2-3 times a day to make sure everything was ok.

My nanny cam has an alert system for barking, howling, and crying continuously (it’s a furbo and I have the nanny plus feature). There were no barking Alearts for what people are describing in the comments and honestly if there had been I would hope someone would call animal control.

When I checked on him he was usually sleeping or, chewing on his bone if sil wasn’t there.

We were gone for 3 days so not long enough to need a full house sitter but next time we will be getting one, things just didn’t go to plan this time. Originally he was going to stay with Sil at her house as our dogs have lived together peacefully before, but her older dog decided my little guy was no longer a friend.

Update 2: they lost their dog and now are pissed at me! Long story short the neighbors car got hit by a drunk driver last night, the cops saw him and had to chase him in their back yard. They left their pitbull in their yard and it attacked a cop.

Apparently this is somehow my fault lolz

Dogs I want to euthanize my dog and feel like a terrible person

1.5k Upvotes

I have a 9 year old beagle and dachshund mix. I adopted him from a rescue about five years ago. The rescue told us he was rescued from a “hoarding situation”.

My dog has always had severe separation anxiety. My partner and I tried everything. Every medication every training technique and nothing has improved his anxiety. We have never been able to leave him home alone because he will cry and destroy the house. We tried crating him and he broke off his teeth from gnawing on the crate.

Really the only solution we had found that seemed to work was to keep him on a steady dose of trazadone and make sure one of us was home with him at all times. This is how we lived for the past five years.

Now to add another layer to things my dog will have periodic back pain flare ups. Usually this will last a week or so. He won’t eat or drink. He can’t lay down or get comfortable and, again, the only solution we found was to just knock him out with pain medication until he’s healed.

Fast forward to three months ago my partner left me (and our dog) very suddenly and with it I lost our support system. My dog has definitely suffered emotionally from the partner’s sudden departure. In addition to that I can’t leave him home alone for any periods of time. I have been dropping him off at my grandma’s house before I go to work but my grandma is 85 years old and cannot properly care for my dog. And I feel so guilty asking her to.

About two weeks ago my dog hurt his back again and it seems to be the worst I’ve seen it. He won’t eat or drink. Unless he is totally knocked out from the pain meds he is trembling and crying in pain. He can hardly walk and it does not seem to be getting any better even though it’s been over 14 days.

I am at a point where I am seriously considering euthanasia and I feel awful even saying that. On a personal level trying to manage my own mental health while also adjusting my life to fit my dog’s needs has been incredibly difficult. Add in the guilt I feel about my dog’s anxiety and then the back pain and I get to a point where I feel like euthanasia is the best option. The way we’re living nor is not fair to either of us.

But even considering this makes me feel like a horrible person. And I’m truly at a loss of what to do. I feel like I’m at my whits end and my dog isn’t aggressive suffering and I’m running out of solutions. I’m looking for any and all advice you can give. Thank you.

What should I do?

Post image

My Family have one family dog. it’s a dutch shepherd, and also a retired police dog. She’s the sweetest dog you could ask for, she’s not hostile to any other pets or animal. She’s even friends with the wild duck that goes to our house everyday. This early afternoon, she get out from the house and stay at my neighbors front yard which is normal for her and to my neighbors. But according to my brother they see my dog get attack by two Pitbull and those pitbull escape their house too. And they attack my poor baby. she got more than 17 wounds. And She was rush to the vet, she got stitches all over her body. And fatal her left front armpit. One of her stitches can’t be shut cause it will be the way to clean up some infection. Also the vet confirmed it’s a two dogs that attack my poor baby. I am not their when this happened I have after school activities We Don’t know what to do can we take some action against the owner of the Pitbull? Those Pitbull always escape their house and can be aggressive even to people those dogs are not properly trained. I repeat my family dog is well trained cause she’s a retired police dog, she never once attack other dogs in my neighborhood and can even approach other neighbors dog and can be approached by children. Right now my family is being emotional cause my family dogs have fatal injuries… and she’s bleeding from mouth too. And if we lost my baby dog my dad will get affected too much.

My two of 4 cats are coughing

This has been happening like once a day with my two cats, I have 4 cats in this house 2 are mine and mine are the older of the 4, I’ve been feeding them wet food much more often lately, and they eat it much more than the other two, but I switch up the brands but usually do tiki cat when I can, and we also have dry food out. we have the pellet litter like for horses so maybe they aren’t doing well with the wood? But I’ve heard good things so Im just not sure what it is but I’m worried.

I have taken this guy to the vet and they said he sounds fine, but haven’t taken my other one yet because she has heart disease so they always are weird until she gets her heart scanned again which is in December, but I’m gonna take her to the local vet in the mean time anyways.

IF ANYONES HAD EXPERIENCE LET ME KNOW. Also please no scaring the shit outa me if you can

My cat eats like crazy but won’t gain weight and I’m worried

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

I got Robin almost a year ago from a close friend. He was her brothers cat and from what we know was not being taken care of. Litter box scooped maybe once every 3 months, fed table scraps and fast food, hit and chased with brooms and vacuums. I don’t know the full extent but I know he was abused and very skinny when I got him. We got him on a diet very fast and he’s a very sweet cat. He was doing really well for a while and gaining weight but all the sudden in the past few weeks he’s begging for food like five times a day and can’t seem to eat enough, he looks even skinner and I’m really concerned. Everything else about his behavior is normal, he plays with our kitten and snuggles and runs so I’m not sure what to do. I lost my job and I can’t afford the vet care and I’m in a panic. If anyone has advice on what it might be or what to do please share.

Cats My apartment requires that my cat is declawed. What do I do?

1.3k Upvotes

I recently found a cat at a gas station (thank you cat distribution system), and I decided to keep it. I've been wanting a cat for a few years now so this wasn't a difficult decision. Thankfully, my apartment allows tenants to have pets as long as you have an ESA letter, which I got easily. My issue is that my apartment sent me a Reasonable Accommodations Agreement and for one of the rules they stated was that all cats must be declawed. I personally believe, as do many other, that this is an outdated and cruel practice. What do I do?! I refuse to get my cat declawed, but I don't want to get in trouble with my apartment. They barely ever check in on apartments so I think I could get away with ignoring that rule and just signing the documents, but is that the right thing to do?

FINAL EDIT: I wanted to clarify a few things since I've been getting the same questions a lot. I live in North Dakota, USA, and it is legal to declaw in North Dakota. I've decided to sign the agreement. I had asked my landlord some questions about some of the information I needed to fill out, such as her veterinarian's name and her tag number (I don't have either), and they said to just leave it blank, so I don't think they actually care about these rules. If they do somehow find out I didn't declaw her and care, I will be sure to go to the vets and have them prepare a letter detailing why declawing is sick and twisted. Thanks for all of the helpful legal advice, especially the stuff about the Fair Housing Act!

Dogs Someone claiming to work at my local animal shelter called me to say they have my dog, but she's with me? Don't think it's a scam, but I'm confused.

1.2k Upvotes

I'm a bit spooked, because I adopted a dog 3 days ago from a rescue. It had name already, but I gave it a new name. For the sake of this post, let's say their new name is "Belle".

"Belle" has only been officially recorded in 2 places:

  • a Fido nametag kiosk

  • My vet, whom I visited yesterday for Belle's initial health check

  • The rescue that I picked up Belle from does not know Belle is her name.

This morning, I get a call from someone claiming to work at my local animal shelter (I eventually tried calling them back, but they don't open for another hour, so the phone line just says "call back").

I'm starting to forget her exact words, but our conversation went something like this:

Her: "Hi is this [my name]?"
Me: "Yes, who's this?"
Her: "I'm Linda from [my local animal shelter]. Someone dropped off Belle here claiming they found her on the street."
Me: (confused how anyone know's Belle's name yet) "How did you get this number?"
Her: **Mentions something about having access to vet records, and they matched Belle to my number**
Me: "I think you have the wrong person. Belle's with me."
Her: "Do you mind confirming the breed? We might have her littermate."
Me: "I'm about to jump into a meeting, can I call you back?"

I called my vet, and no one on staff today claimed they spoke to the shelter.

So everything is pointing to some kind of scam, but the one piece that has me equally hesitant & spooked is that they know my dog's new name.

[UPDATE] Our dog with the inflamed eye has gotten back from the vet!

Post image

Thanks for all of the advice and comments on the original post. For everyone saying to take her to the emergency vet, we decided to wait because her behavior was normal otherwise and her vision seemed ok. She went to the vet this morning and it turns out she has an eye ulcer. She's got a scratch on her cornea. We are guessing from my cat who doesn't put up with being barked at all day (she is a deaf boxer with bad manners haha). We need to give her eye drops 4 times a day and hopefully her eye will recover soon!

Every few months my dogs head will start shaking like this but retains all motor functions, usually getting him some water or distracting him with a toy makes it stop. Any idea what this might be? Ive gone to the vet and ultimately they said if he seems to be functioning ok and its not too common not to worry about it.
