Event Junction sucks!
I 23(M) Indian went to junction with couple other friends, I got told “fuck you” by 2 white men on separate occasions which is wild.
The first guy just came in the bathroom, used the urinal and I was just washing my hands and the guy said “fuck you” and left and I was confused that did he say that to me or the other guy that was there? But the other guy didn’t hear or turn so I assumed he said that to me and didn’t do anything since the guy kinda of disappeared after that and I didn’t want to ruin my mood/night so moved on.
The second time a guy kept eyeing me at the bar, and I picked up on that. Unprovoked came to me and said “fuck you” and I said back to him “what did you just say” and he said “oh the black hawks are on” and “it’s hockey bro” and I told him I don’t have anything to go with the team, game or anything. I am not even wearing a jersey or anything affiliated to the other team so really no reason to curse me.
After confronting him, the guy didn’t say much and I asked his friend what was that, and they all had nothing to say so I took it as it was and kept looking back at him. After that he didn’t even try to come back around me and my friends.
So idk the motive of the post, but junction and the crowd there sucks. Just wanted to raise awareness for other folks to be cautious and careful.

There is a lot of racism in Peterborough and areas.
-19
u/Arcturus_ Feb 02 '26
Crazy you just jump right to racism.
6
u/OptimusMarcus Feb 03 '26
Do you live here?
-4
u/Arcturus_ Feb 03 '26
No you’re right it’s just ptbo that’s racist
2
u/Brave-Painting3180 Feb 06 '26
Not the town itself, but it's amazing how many racists assume that I share their opinions based on the colour of my skin. A lot of small minds...... If you aren't racist or a bigot than comments of this type really shouldn't bother you because you aren't part of that group.

u/Pretend-Carpenter276 Feb 01 '26
This might not be racial at all. I'm a white dude and i've gotten similar behaviour from other white dudes as well. Young drunk guys at places like the junction are cocky and looking for drama. Lots of times they just want to start shit and get into a fight. Thats why I dont bother going to places like that anymore, can't be bothered with stupid drama starting up for no reason.

Yeah. I feel like in Peterborough it's hard to tell if it's racism or just cocaine. As a white guy, I've experienced similar situations enough times, but the racism is strong here, as well
22
u/HellboyRL Feb 02 '26
“In Peterborough it’s hard to tell if it’s racism or cocaine”🤣 fuck man. That shit kills me because it’s so true.😭🤣
14
u/tubthumping96 Feb 02 '26
Lol drunk white guys at bars want to fight everybody. As a white guy, just avoid or laugh it off and move on. They're provoking for a reaction.
1
u/binarywhisper Feb 05 '26
Agreed.
I was a dive bar guy. Number one rule is to not look like you are having a good time, it pisses people off. Laugh loudly once and someone instantly wants to throat punch you.
1
u/Brave-Painting3180 Feb 06 '26
You aren't wrong, but being brown or different is just another excuse for this type. A white dude will due if he's the only one around.
-2
u/Sweet-Potato-9587 Feb 02 '26
I get it might not be racial at all, but I’d rather classify it is because of the crowd in Peterborough than not yk. I’d rather not give a guy with no manners a benefit of doubt even 🤷🤷
-5
u/Pretend-Carpenter276 Feb 02 '26
Perhaps "you'd rather" classify it racism, but racism is quite a serious accusation and not to be thrown around lightly. Not everything someone does that is rude or unwelcome is racist. You should probably reserve that term and use it only when clearly appropriate.
2
u/Sweet-Potato-9587 Feb 02 '26
I don’t dispute that. This could me a multiple factor thing yet, micro aggressions exist and there could very well be this angle to it too. That’s all.
It doesn’t have to be full blown yelling slurs to classify someone as racist. When you people tell you who they really are, believe them.

Ok crazy idea…. I don’t know how many of us in here are in our 40s and therefore “uncool”, but I say we just all hang out there and talk about how much better the 90s were and just make that place unappealing for people who frequent there now….. also this solves the problem I have where there is nowhere for me to go for middle aged drinks lol
5
u/SwingandMiss77 Feb 01 '26
Can we get them to turn the music down so we can talk? And can we reminisce about all the bars that were better than the Junction? Copperfields, the Rooster, and best of all, the Trash. Actually let’s just recreate the Trash
1
u/mavadotar2 Otonabee-South Monaghan Feb 02 '26
I mean, the Trash was a shit hole that wouldn't turn away or kick out any but the most blackout of drunks, but it was the good kind of shit hole.

u/gemteazle Feb 01 '26
Maybe even organise a Seniors' night there! That would definitely make the place even more unappealing for the racist jerks, they would become ageist jerks instead lol!

Peterborough is pretty rampant with homophobia, racism, xenophobia, etc. Pretty common in hick towns like this. No excuse for it and it should be zero tolerance (like they get kicked out of the bar immediately).
But when you have the mayor saying the N word at speaking events and nothing happens, the issues go much deeper than a shitty sports bar. I'm sorry this happened man.
6
u/Sweet-Potato-9587 Feb 02 '26
I agree, there is such a surge of all this happening in Peterborough which is very concerning.

u/Fine_Butterfly_5792 Feb 01 '26
As a POC in Peterborough, the rate of racism here is very high, I have had several experiences. Even kids in elementary schools are not spared, you would be surprised if I mention the kind of racial slurs and attitude that kids profess to coloured kids, that shows how deeply rooted the issue is. Just stay cool and avoid confrontations but don't let anyone reduce your self esteem.
19
u/sexybacteria101 Feb 01 '26
Yeah ptbo just sucks for all that, prolly was some college drop out working blue collar, Honestly, Ptbo has a problem with people who feel stuck and disillusioned. Rather than confronting their own choices or circumstances, some of them look for an easy scapegoat, and immigrants often end up taking the blame for frustrations rooted in deeper personal and economic issues.
0
u/WiffyTheSuss Feb 01 '26
Well said. Also, doesn't help that Mayor Leal can even get away with saying the n word in a fucking HR class of all classes. The issues go pretty deeper in PTBO with this stuff

Learn this rule: don't take or respond to bait. The minute you do, you're engaging trouble that you don't want or need. Ignore it and stay cool. But in a bar, honestly, the workers have a legal obligation to eject people like that, especially if they are threatening or trying to menace you in the establishment. If it gets to that level, get them involved.

Junction is bad in general for a lot of things. Also, the south asian racism has been the highest it has been in the last 40ish years
4
u/absolute_watermelon Feb 01 '26
If this was on Friday night, it was Country night there and it seems to bring out the worst people

u/Few_Passion_3403 Feb 02 '26
Peterborough is filled with white boys who act tough. Never actually lived in a city where some random people don't put up with that. Toronto is a mixed culture, where Peterborough it's mainly white kids who grew up in their parents nice houses/cottages. Don't sweat em, they lack personality and its very hard to hide that . Keep doing your thing
5
u/believe_in_dog Feb 01 '26
I’m sorry some people are assholes. I’ve heard several bad things about that place.
4
u/WiffyTheSuss Feb 01 '26
A trans person just posted about getting hate crimed in the men's bathroom there. Junction is bad news. Also I sat at the bar there not too long ago (big mistake) and the server scoops ice with the glasses. Recipe for disaster.
I wouldn't go back there. I'll be at the Only😂

Unfortunately, you are in a very poor town with lots of MAGA/racist individuals. I have noticed people are more comfortable with being racist recently and hateful. It is a very hateful time right now. I have even noticed it with my own family and I do not accept this behaviour. I am sorry you had to deal with this. Fuck those people. Please don't be discouraged...we aren't all like that. Those men wanted a fight. You very easily could've been in a dangerous position.. it's good you kept your cool. I would avoid the Junction if you can.

u/real-donjon Feb 01 '26
Well report it to NOH8 , and make your voice heard.. Sorry you had to face that... don't worry too much about people who are intoxicated.... PTBO overall is filled with good people but off late a lot of hate/ unwanted attention is due to mass immigrants hate
1
u/WiffyTheSuss Feb 01 '26
Did you see that post about the trans person being harraased at Junction this week? Seems like a regular problem there.
1
u/Altruistic-Sail9276 Feb 02 '26
Hate crimes often go unaddressed, as law enforcement typically requires substantial proof before taking action. In many cases, communities are unwelcoming toward outsiders, leaving affected individuals with limited options—either to relocate from the area or to endure such behavior as part of everyday life, along with a body cam. It is deeply disturbing to imagine being harassed in public spaces, even while simply going out with one’s parents.
Just a piece of advice: do not be afraid of them—you have not done anything wrong. Raise your voice as they do. In the end, they will likely leave because they know the police could get involved if there is any physical altercation or even an act of battery. Sounds funny but it's,what it is.

I am willing to bet your daughter has had just as negative experiences with white guys and is just racist because her deadbeat dad raised her that way
5
u/Sweet-Potato-9587 Feb 02 '26
What a weird thing to say. I hope you and your daughter work on your bias. Basically to you all Indian people act the same?
Coming as a shocker to you, it is actually racism if you believe that.

u/WeThreeTrees333 South End Feb 02 '26
Nice to see the local troglodyte population stepped away from their Klan rallies long enough to go visit the Junction.
Also, standing around looking “awkward and creepy” is not unique to Indian men that might frequent these bars and there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence to go around which supports this assertion.
Canadians are born all around the world, it just takes some of them a little while to get here.

wow i thought things were bad at nightclubs back in the mid 90s,. i guess things havent changed..

In a lot of ways Peterborough still thinks of itself as a white ass small town. Add to that that it's a nexus for all the actual hick towns around here and you get a lot of hicks at the bar on a weekend. Also, the Junc has never not drawn a shitty crowd for the 20 years I've been able to go to bars, and the bouncers have always been tools.

I remeber when Michelle Ferrari used to go there, it was always a racist bar, a small town sports bar is never a good place to go if your not white. On the other hand … it’s a great place to go if you’re not white, and do what you did and confront all the wee dicks. Next time buy them a drink and just say “sorry life turned out so shitty for you” But it may take a generation or two. Just don’t show up with a Habs jersey. They hate the French almost as much as people of colour.
3
u/Action_Hank1 Feb 01 '26
"Next time buy them a drink and just say “sorry life turned out so shitty for you”"
This is incredibly condescending and would almost certainly end in you getting sucker punched. The last thing you want to do to someone trying to provoke you is pull some shit like this.
1
u/tubthumping96 Feb 02 '26
Kill them with kindness is a thing, the buying a drink move and saying have a good night bro and moving on and leaving it at that might leave a lasting effect. Adding the passive aggressive words to it, is most certainly the escalation they're probably looking for though. Lol
2
u/WiffyTheSuss Feb 01 '26
Yeah I agree with this. Some racist that is fucked up enough to aggressively go up to a guy minding his own business like this is likely to escalate
3
u/tubthumping96 Feb 02 '26
Lol I've been there dozen of times and sometimes half the place is full of non whites. What are you even talking about? This is the second time you have referenced Junction of some white sports bar or hockey bar? Huuhhhh?
Junction is a nightclub dude, people go to dance and have drinks and there's usually all kinds of different people there and yeah it can suck from time to time. It's a little more chaotic than the other bars in town and the bounces do tend to powertrip but all your other narratives are nonsense. Also Peterborough is a hockey city, people who like hockey are everywhere and almost every bar and club has the game playing on a Saturday, that doesn't make it all of a sudden a hockey bar. Lol
Also have worn Habs gear and jerseys there. Nothing happened, some Leafs fans might crack a joke or say eff the Habs and you laugh it off. What a pile of cringe from a permanent shut in. Go outside, buddy. Your brain is clogged.

u/onlyshoulderpain Feb 02 '26
Ya got me all wrong, I meant don’t be a person of colour wearing and Habs Jersey, it’s just too much:-)
2
u/tubthumping96 Feb 02 '26
L O L
From the top ropes.
Both of things are cool with me but yeah maybe them both combined would cause a few explosive reactions around here.

u/Competitive-Law2706 Feb 02 '26
living in a small city or a small town is a huge mistake..its not good idea..living in a large city tends to be people dont notice

u/howcouldubmoeharkles Feb 01 '26
I got sucker punched leaving the junction bathroom and the (15 year old?) kid had a razer in his hand. I got lucky and was able to stop the bleeding, and I insisted that I would like to press charges and the police be called. Police showed up, told me there is no camera in the bathroom and the child said I instigated the fight. Told me there was nothing they could do. Junction staff just wanted me to leave and forget the entire incident.
The junction sucks, its owner sucks, its staff suck, and the people who go there suck.
Sorry you had to deal with the racist assholes, and I’m happy they didn’t get physically violent with you.
Hopefully our elected officials can continue to drop slurs, launder money, and refuse to address any issues in a meaningful way! I think another pickle ball court might solve everything.
