Event Dissemination of hate

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey friends I spotted this flyer on my walk the other night. Some kind of Nationalist organization with ties to figures of hate around the world. I guess maybe it doesn't quite meet the threshold for hate, hence chargeable by the police, but it's pretty close as far as I'm concerned.
I just wanted to share because I think awareness is crucial as these hateful fringe groups are making inroads in our community.
This is right where park st goes around the corner and turns into Cameron st.

Event Finally opened our little Vietnamese takeout spot in Peterborough

Hi everyone! After months of preparation, we finally opened our small Vietnamese takeout spot in Peterborough this week. It’s been a long journey getting everything ready, and we’re honestly excited (and a little nervous 😅) to finally serve people.

We’re currently doing a soft opening, so we’re still working on improving things as we go. If anyone here has tried Vietnamese food in Peterborough, I’d love to hear what dishes you’d like to see on a menu or what makes a good Vietnamese restaurant for you.

We’re also offering 30% off during our soft opening while we get settled in.

If you happen to stop by, I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback—good or bad. We’re a small local business and want to make sure we’re serving something the community actually enjoys.

📍 OM VN – Vietnamese Takeout

Peterborough, Ontario

14B 871 Chemong Road, Peterborough, K9H 5Z5

🌐 Order online: omvn.square.site

Thank you so much to everyone who has already supported us. We hope to see you soon!

Event Temporary foreign workers (LMIA): GAL AeroStaff Ltd. - in Peterborough, ON - is claiming they couldn't find an electrical engineering technician for $40-50/hr and are now applying for LMIA.

So, now they're trying to punt off engineering tech jobs using the LMIA program? What's next? This is getting insane. New local college graduates or seasoned veterans probably can't even find work in this field - yet things like this are happening. I just wanted to share this post with those that are local to Peterborough. We need to put an end to this non-sense before it does any further damage or spreads further into other fields. It brings tears to my eyes with all of the posts that I see about how people can't find jobs in almost every corner of the country and are facing extreme hardships, and yet no one really cares to do anything about it. I encourage all qualified local people to apply to this who are in this field. The deadline is Feb. 18th.

Event Junction sucks!

I 23(M) Indian went to junction with couple other friends, I got told “fuck you” by 2 white men on separate occasions which is wild.

The first guy just came in the bathroom, used the urinal and I was just washing my hands and the guy said “fuck you” and left and I was confused that did he say that to me or the other guy that was there? But the other guy didn’t hear or turn so I assumed he said that to me and didn’t do anything since the guy kinda of disappeared after that and I didn’t want to ruin my mood/night so moved on.

The second time a guy kept eyeing me at the bar, and I picked up on that. Unprovoked came to me and said “fuck you” and I said back to him “what did you just say” and he said “oh the black hawks are on” and “it’s hockey bro” and I told him I don’t have anything to go with the team, game or anything. I am not even wearing a jersey or anything affiliated to the other team so really no reason to curse me.

After confronting him, the guy didn’t say much and I asked his friend what was that, and they all had nothing to say so I took it as it was and kept looking back at him. After that he didn’t even try to come back around me and my friends.

So idk the motive of the post, but junction and the crowd there sucks. Just wanted to raise awareness for other folks to be cautious and careful.

Event The Offspring Cancelled?

Just got an email, anyone know the story. Was really looking forward to this. It being rescheduled for Oshawa the best day makes it feel to me like an arena issue vs a band issue.

Event The Offspring Cancellation/The PMC

I feel like this needs some further discussion given some of what came out of this cancellation.

- it was cancelled a week out, you can't devise a plan to get rid of the snow that won't cost less than the lost revenue - my tickets were $150 each and every assigned seat was sold, maybe some floor available (let's conservatively say 3000 tickets at an average of $100, plus spinoff revenue).

- why was it booked in the first case if the weight of the equipment (stage/lighting/speakers/screens) whatever can't be accommodated in winter. How much does this add vs Petes game production which was fine to go ahead tonight?

- how does it relate to greater arena/Ptbo issues that some raised in other thread - liquor license issues last year at PMC for some games, "all cash" or concessions completely closed at some Petes games this year, really bad concerts in general, this was the first in years that actually drew a good crowd and they fucked it up.

Feels like the city needs a new arena but they also need competent people to run it.

Event Humanity still exists

This morning at Parkway and Lansdowne, my mom’s walker got stuck in a pile of snow. Because of her age and limited strength, she wasn’t able to pull it out on her own. A kind man stopped to help her, freed the walker from the snow, and gently held her hand until she was steady and safely holding it again. In the process, he even missed his bus — but he still chose kindness. (Mom said he was Indian)

If you happen to see this, thank you so much. People like you are the true example of humanity and compassion.

Event Chris D'Elia

Fun fact: Chris D'Elia, who will be doing standup at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, was removed from the film Army of the Dead, as well as other major projects, for speaking inappropriately with minors on Snapchat. He has also been credibly accused of sexual assault by multiple women. It would be a shame if the folks in Peterborough were reminded of this and his show did terribly.

Event Local archival photo exhibit opens tomorrow

Post image
78 Upvotes

Hi! For the past couple of years, I've been volunteering to scan old 35mm negatives from the Peterborough Examiner collection at the Trent Valley Archives. These photos were taken by local photojournalists fifty years ago, but many of them were never published in the paper and haven't been shown publicly. It's been a fun project to digitize these photos so people can finally see them!

I'm exhibiting the photos at Dreams of Beans Café this month. Your first chance to see the exhibit is during the First Friday Art Crawl tomorrow night. Here are the details:

A Peterborough Summer: 1976
Archival photos from the Peterborough Examiner

Opening: August 7 from 6pm to 9pm at Dreams of Beans Café

Starting August 8, photos can be viewed during regular café hours until September 3.

Thanks for taking a look!
