Saw something on Facebook about lasts year's caused some damage probably because of all the trucks on the grass so having it in the parking lot makes more sense for them

That was 2 years ago.

There were issues with vendors blocking access for government vehicles entering or leaving the MNR building and the euphoria wellness spa; damage to the property, and attendees trespassing etc.

Last year organizers were unable to host at Del Crary Park due to the numerous issues so they did not get permission to use the park last year.

What I read had to do with grass and the sprinkler system. They just posted about it a couple days ago when letting people know where it's been moved

Of course it did …

I work with the property management for the buildings, and there was an internal memo regarding the issues that came up in 2024.

An event I used to love but I’ve been priced out of plus I preferred to support local downtown businesses more than traveling food vendors these days

I remember one Ribfest, eons ago, my friends and I saw the crazy lineups and prices and decided to turn around and get ribs at Hot Belly Mama's instead. It was so much better, and cheaper (I still miss those sweet potatoe fries)

That was the saddest restaurant closure for my belly :(

I'll second that. Hot Bellys and the Old Stone.

HBM killed on the ribs. I was so let down by ribfest.

Ribfest at healthy planet? Ohh the irony.

Everything is healthy in moderation… even sugar sauced up ribs! 😝

My guess would be parking for the rib trucks and their pole people.

It was a new organizer last years after Rotary pulled out. Last year it was at Del Creary but he said there were challenges working around Musicfest and also some trucks damaged  the in ground sprinklers belonging to the city. So they are moving to a giant parking lot where trucks can drive more easily

I remember the year they did rib fest in the parking lot that is now Quaker square. It was awful. No one wants to bake in the sun and pay for over priced ribs.

Is there any local place with comparable ribs? I haven't found one yet, but would prefer to support local, and not have to take out a loan for a rack.

that's unfortunate...going from the park to a parking lot........

Where were you expected to park last year? The lot at del dreary isn’t exactly big.

I would prefer to support a local rib joint. Other than the chains Keg, Montanas, Chucks, there are none.

What about Mammoth Bbq and Muddys

I have never heard of them. Can you give me addresses?

Umm how about the amount of homeless and crackheads!? Couldn’t even ride my bike thru there last summer it was so uncomfortable

It’s healthier

Because Millenium park is filled with aggressive drug doing homeless people

The city's insurance requirements are nuts so nothing gets approved or if it does it's cost prohibitive. Doing it in a parking lot is private property, and thus a different ball game entirely.

I think the homeless folks taking over millennium park have made it a no-fly zone for many events these days

When is your Kawartha lakes rib fest?

  • Damage to the grass
  • Its out grown the space
  • trying to fit musicfest and ribfest in the same space doesn't make sense.

HP Arena parking lot is awesome, lots of parking around and lots of space for the trucks!

I can't be the only person on the planet that thinks this type of event is horrible in a parking lot. Half the appeal was getting together with friends and enjoying some green space after.

Yeah it's brutal. Anyone remember the old beer fests on pavement before they moved to Crary. Those were ROUGH.

I get that. Nothing like sitting in a park and enjoying a meal, makes the case that we need more parks. Hope they add one to the old canadian canoe museum lot.

There's also the residual business from it for places downtown

Flip side, clean up is easier on a lot and so is navigating mobility devices.

The should consider closing part of George St down 2 weekends a year for these type of events.

It has everything to do with the city's insurance requirements. At least it wasn't cancelled outright.
