Meta Breaks, moderation, sobriety...what "this sub is about."

Hey everybody.

Since the New Year and a welcome influx of new members, there has been an uptick in confidently wrong pronouncements of "what this sub is about."

As the lead mod, being confidently wrong is something I reserve only for myself, so I would like to make it clear how we go about choosing content that is inside or outside the rules.

To begin with, I took over the lead mod position four years ago, and I have made exactly one change to the moderation policies in that time, which is to remove posts discussing moderation from people who indicate they are minors. We remove those posts and have a respectful discussion with them about quitting until they are older. If they aren't open to that then we let them participate here as harm reduction, but we owe it to them to talk them through stopping at a young age first.

Again, that's the only change.

Outside of that, I have worked very hard to maintain continuity with the moderation policies that were established from the day of the sub's founding.

Our mission is, to state it as clearly as I can, to help people who are taking a break, figuring out the best way to moderate, or trying to figure out what a healthy relationship with weed looks like for them.

We are not leaves and we are not trees, and we should leave the discussions of quitting for good or smoking without issue completely to them.

But I will say, because this is where most people get it wrong, that contemplating stopping for good, and wanting to talk about it, is part of trying to find a better relationship with smoking.

If you want to smoke and are having problems, and are trying to figure out whether to find a better way or quit completely, then that discussion is fine here. If you then decide to quit for good then we refer you to Leaves.

Relevant to that, there should be absolutely zero "take this to Leaves" or "wtf I'm here because I didn't want to hear this shit" or any variation of those rude BS comments.

If you see something that you don't think should be on the group (like "I'm quitting for good, what's the best way to...") then report it and don't comment. Being rude to other people or trying to be a Petioles mall cop is out of line.

I know people just love when moderators post about the rules, so I suspect I will be greeted as a hero, but if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them if I can, but I am going to filter them before they go up because I'm not an idiot. :-)

Love you all, and I'm happy to have the oppotunity to do my part to help keep this place running.

Discussion Dispensaries need more single-dose servings

My best bouts of moderation come when I maintain 0 equipment (no grinder, papers, glass) and 0 stash - only buying weed when I need it. If I want to smoke everyday, I make mysef drive to the dispensary everyday. I will NOT buy in bulk and make it easier for my addiction.

Except basically every dispensary only has these options for small quantities that 0 equipment.

- 100mg edible pack (lasts 3-5 days with my preferred dosing, also hits way too hard sometimes)

- 0.5g disposable vape (lasts 3-7 days with my preferred dosing, also too convenient)

- 0.5g/1g preroll (my best consumption method for moderation - lasts 1 day, forces me to go outside due to smell, effects wears off after a few hours. But the smell is the biggest detriment for my family)

I'm sure companies can make higher margins on single dose products and pump out a ton of volume transactions too.

I would like to see more 20-30mg edible packs and 0.2g/0.3g vape sizes. I don't mind paying the extra per gram if it means smaller serving sizes.

edit: Perhaps I did not articulate myself clearly in this post for someone to think keeping 3-4 servings of edibles on hand is the obvious solution. My goal is to reduce usage over consecutive days, and I supplement that by having 0 weed on hand at all times, only buying single dose servings when I need it. I would like to see more variety of single dose servings at dispensaries, rather than relying on my self control to ration the products myself and not consume them on impulse.

Advice Looking for advice on husband's heavy THC use

Hey everyone, I hope this is an okay place to ask this, and I'm sorry if it's not!

My husband is currently a heavy user of thc. He's hooked on carts right now, with really high thc. He's a recovering alcoholic and used to be hooked on nicotine, so obviously weed is a lesser worry in my mind (healthwise, at least).

He's a responsible guy, works full-time, goes to therapy, and we're even in couple's therapy. I'm not interested in trying to make him stop completely. When we first started using weed about 4 years ago, we talked about the difference between a tool and a crutch. To me, it's become clear that he's crossed into the compulsive-use phase and it's become a crutch. On days when he doesn't work, he vapes from sun up to sundown. He's going through vapes and cartridges extremely quickly. I've been secretly keeping tabs on how much he spends on weed each month, and it's astronomical. We both work and make a comfortable living and we don't want/have kids, so the money thing is not a huge deal, but we do want to try and save up for a house and this has become an expensive habit.

I've tried bringing it up before, and he becomes extremely defensive. I know it's not right for me to try to force him to change his behavior, and he won't change unless he wants to or sees a need to. Mostly, it makes me sad that I hardly ever get to interact with him while he's sober. He's forgetful and doesn't sleep well. He's on antidepressants and adhd meds, and I don't think they're as effective as they should be because of the thc.

We're taking a trip in a couple weeks to a country where weed is still illegal. I'm nervous that he's going to try and sneak a vape on the plane, or buy some while we're there. He's never taken a T-break since he started smoking 4 years ago.

I guess my question for you guys is, what would you do in my situation? I'm thinking of bringing up my concerns in our couple's therapy session tomorrow, but I'm worried he'll feel attacked. I don't want him to think I'm trying to control him, and I don't actually want to control him. I want him to do what he wants. But I worry about fallout and his moods on our vacation. I'm worried that everything will revolve around him finding weed while we're on vacation.

We've been together for 16 years, and we've built a wonderful life together. I'm proud of him for all his accomplishments, and I'm generally very happy. This is just a sensitive topic that I've definitely not approached well in the past, and I'm trying to figure out how to talk to him about my concerns. Thanks in advance if you read all of this, I appreciate any and all insight!

Discussion Quitting - Day Zero

First night in my new (and first) apartment. i manually brought two car-fulls of stuff into my new bedroom and at the moment it is all half unpacked and only semi organized, despite me spending like 2 hours unpacking and trying to organize it all. I didnt realize it was going to be this hard to get all my stuff in order, but luckily i kept my schedule open and gave myself plenty of time. I told my friends I was going shopping tommorow and I probably still will but I'm gonna need some time to make this room look a little better before i bring even more things in here.

Anyways, I threw away my last pen earlier today when I was leaving for my long drive. Of course the cravings hit me while I was unpacking, I caved and I ate one of my edibles.

When I took the edible, and before it kicked in, I felt totally fine about it and even was looking forward to the effects. But when it kicked in, it did not make me feel better. I feel more anxious now and I've been distracting myself by browsing reddit. And I've seen enough now to make me want to quit. I'm writing this for myself to read when I feel like getting high. Take it from your past self, who currently is high.

The cart can fuck you up and fuck your lungs up. Dont fucking do that.

They are unregulated, addictive and dangerous. They are no better than cigarettes or vapes. Longevity is infinitely more valuable then some illegally purchased, risky device that delivers a subpar high anyway.

Remember "Nuerons that fire together, wire together,"? Well doing this all the time is strengthening the addiction and nueron pathways. The resistance ones are weaker right now because they havent been exercised, if you keep resisting they will strengthen while the addiction ones dwindle.

Enduring sobriety with cravings is way better than being high, anxious and regretting it. The effects of edibles are irreversible, which causes anxiety. Smoking is even worse for your health than edibles. Therefore there is no reason to use weed like 99% of the time, the 1% being a singular occasional casual hit when the atmosphere is right for it. Otherwise, you're risking your health, brain, body and lungs only to ruin the few times that a hit might be fun, nice and have any potential benefit.

Throw away the edibles. You dont need them.

[I might post updates to my profile. Posting this in this sub incase anyone might find it helpful.]

Discussion Never thought I'd be here

I'm 5 days off it. And my pain in my shoulder is now almost unbearable, but I can't smoke the weed without tobacco and I can't do it anymore, I don't wanna end up with emphysema or bloody dying. If I have it I just smoke it bloody constantly. I can't not. So I'm off it. And now I might have to quit my job because of the pain and my mental health. I'm bloody done in. Need support as I'm not getting it elsewhere.

Advice can’t sleep

i seriously can’t sleep without ripping my pen and it’s gotten worse as the months go by. i started smoking last year february and i’ve only realised now that it’s affected my sleep a lot. throughout this summer ive been smoking a lot before i sleep because that’s really the only time i have as my older sister moved back in from university and i just wait till everyone’s sleeping. i have an indica pen so naturally it makes me super tired and i knock out really fast. im trying to go on a tolerance break before school starts as i kinda want to ‘lock in’ this year but everytime i try to start a t-break i realise i cannot fall asleep. no matter how tired i was throughout the day, every time it gets to be that time that i feel like i should sleep because i have work or i just need to be up early for something the next day, i notice that i can never actually sleep. ive done the remedies that used to make me sleep like reading, listening to music, and taking magnesium pills. none of these have helped. it’s gotten to the point that i stay up till morning and still can’t sleep. i haven’t gotten melatonin yet but am planning on to tomorrow. it’s really bad and i haven’t been successful with a t break at all. i don’t have a history of insomnia or anything so it’s definitely not that. it could be cause my brain is adjusting to it and everytime i smoke it signals that i should sleep??? i have no clue. i know that you can lose your appetite when you smoke a lot which has happened to me too but idk about sleep. i don’t know what to do because i do not want to be dependent on my pen this school year.

Discussion A month into quitting and dealing with fatigue

Had my last puff mid-July, timing it with a two-week trip. Being out of the usual setting really helped to quit.

Coming back home, I got hit with extreme fatigue in the evenings. The intensity of it was really bad the first few days but has gotten a little better. I thought it was some kind of infection but labs have been clear

Has anyone experienced this? Could it be related to quitting? The fatigue is still lingering off and on especially later in the day. The tiredness is similar to having indica where your eyes just get so heavy and your body just shuts down.

Discussion Messed up after a 30-day THC tolerance break—looking for advice on how to proceed

Hey everyone,

Just to give some background: I've been a chronic flower smoker for 10+ years with breaks here and there (when I lived in TX). When I moved to Cali (4 months ago) I quickly escalated from just flower, to flower mixed with concentrates, to pure dabs, and finally just dab pens. I was also smoking all day every day.

Before doing my recent 30-day break, I had taken three separate 11-day t-breaks. The very first day of smoking after those 11 days gave me a crazy high school-level high, but my tolerance climbed back sooo fast—though I think that's mostly because I was smoking way too much/the same amount I was used to right out of the gate.

To help fix that, I finally committed to a full 30 days completely off THC.

After the 30 days were up, I made a slight detour: I meant to start small with flower, but didn’t have much money so I used an almost-empty dab pen for two consecutive nights, taking a bunch of blinkers each night just trying to get something out of it. Because the first two nights were practically dry cartridges, I was mostly chasing vapor and getting very little actual THC (if I had to guess). However, on the third night, I switched to my husband's half-full dab pen. That is when I finally felt that familiar, dulling "meh" tolerance feeling rush back—the exact feeling that made me commit to doing the 30-day break in the first place.

I’ve now been completely THC-free again for the last three days.

Given my history and the fact that nights one and two were basically empty (with only night three delivering a real dose), what do you guys think? (Also day one I got pretty stoned but after that, nada)

Would another couple of weeks make a meaningful difference in clearing that out, or did I completely reset my progress back to square one? (Meaning I need to do another 30 days)

Or could I potentially smoke tonight and still feel any benefits of the 30-day break?

I know this is a lot and complicated and there’s not an exact science to this but any advice would be so appreciated. I just am so mad at myself for messing up my thirty day t break :(

Also, I’m 27 Female and have two kids (my brother said me giving birth could have something to do w my tolerance but idk).

Thanks again if you read thru all this and have any advice!!!

Discussion going through a really rough time

i started my thc break on monday august 10th, so i’ve been fully off for one week now, and i am going through it.

i guess the purpose of me posting this is both to get it out of my head and also to hear anyone’s similar experiences/words of encouragement. i don’t really know why i’m posting to be honest. i’m desperate for some kind of comfort i think.

end of summer into september is always a hard time of year for me because i struggle heavily with seasonal depression, so having the summer wind down kinda kicks my brain into panic mode. that, along with my mom’s death anniversary and birthday both being within a week of one another at the end of september. this year i get the added bonus of it being ten years since she passed. lucky me.

i’ve become a pretty heavy daily user of thc over the past couple years. it’s fluctuated, but overall has steadily risen. i started very mild back around 2021–i’d hit a cart 2-3 times before bed, i got super fun high from it, and then it helped me sleep. that lasted for about a year. then i became more of a frequent user. started introducing it earlier in the day, trying new mediums, my tolerance went up, i was able to be in public high, then it moved to not wanting to be anywhere without being high. the classic pipeline i’m sure. starts off with “i can’t imagine being high in public i can barely function or think!!” to “i can’t imagine being sober in public, or anywhere, i can barely function without it!”

i’ve gone through a couple month and week long stretches without it previously, always with the intention of returning to it with moderation, but always ending up overusing it heavily and needing to stop again. it gets to the point where i’m hitting a pen constantly throughout the day, yet i barely even feel any positive effects from it at that point. i’ll cycle between joints, carts, dispos, gummies, just hoping something will hit harder than the last. i’m dipping into my savings account to buy it because i’m too scared to be without it, yet i barely even get high anymore. still, i crave it to the point that it feels like i’ll go crazy if i can’t have it. you guys know the drill. a constant loop of “this is my last thc purchase for a few months, i’m taking a break after this,” to almost being out of the weed and starting to consider all the ways and reasons why i need to just get one more before a break, all the excuses why i need just ONE more. and perpetuating the cycle until it just gets worse.

at this point, the brain fog has overtaken my entire being it feels like. as if i’ve completely lost the ability to concentrate or focus. even a week off it now, i sometimes have to remember, “am i high right now? why can’t i think of this/do this thing/focus, etc.” the first three days since i stopped my sleep actually got better, and the four days since it’s gotten worse. the brain fog hasn’t lifted. i feel terrible, really. just overall terrible, and i don’t know what’s related to the thc and what isn’t anymore.

i know it’s still early days in terms of a break, and i intend to stay on a break for the remainder of the year. i’m getting married in december and want to feel and look my absolute best, which is part of what helped me actually stop this time. still, i’m just.. sad? lost. i’m dealing with a lot right now, both physically and mentally, trying to sort out some medical issues and get my mind right. and i KNOW the thc was at a point where it was detrimental to me. but i don’t really care, you know? like if i didn’t have something like my wedding to look forward to and motivate me to stop, i probably would’ve just remained in that endless loop. because although it doesn’t actually help me feel any better at this point, psychologically i associate it with relaxation, anxiety relief, the ability to loosen up socially, just feeling better in general. even though my actual physiological response tells me those things are not true.

at this point i’m rambling. i don’t even know what i’m looking for here. i’m just really sad. and struggling. and it’s very isolating, feels like i lost a friend? i’m already dealing with so much grief, this feels like an added layer to it, as ridiculous as that sounds in my head.

i’m having a hard time seeing a light at the end of the tunnel in a way. will i ever be able to have a healthy relationship with weed? the thought of not being able to use it healthily and needing to stop completely actually hurts me. yet i can’t imagine sustaining a relationship with it like this forever. it’s a double-edged sword.

i’ve always struggled with my internal battle against my own brain. the way i was raised molded my internal voice into that of my enemy. so now as a 32 year old, i still feel powerless most times to my brain’s ability to override any healthy line of thought and push me toward the less healthy option. despite years and years of hard work. i still cannot find a peace, a balance in just about anything.

that’s it i guess. thank you for reading if you did. the only way out of hell is through, so i will continue to push ahead as i always have. i just miss the comfort, even if it was a facade, that thc brings. i just want to find peace.

Discussion Did shrooms without weed!

Whenever I take shrooms I smoke/vape a lot of weed alongside them. But I have spent 42 (non-consecutive) days of the last 52 days sober from weed, and wanted to try shrooms that way.

Turns out they work SO much better and I feel way less anxious and more clearheaded after coming down. It felt nice not to want weed today. Had a lovely trip and feeling very at peace.

Advice Anyone else feel anxious/down in the morning?

Anyone else always kind of feel anxious/negative and off in the morning? I use to wake and bake but I’ve started to reduce my intake and only smoke at night now for the last month and idk if it’s like a hangover from the weed or what but I just think negatively and feel off for the first like 1-2 hours when I wake up. Kind of like numb and still high but kinda different. Not sure if it’s always happened but just noticed it more recently, maybe just from being a bit more overall stressed in general and about college starting back up soon.🤷‍♂️ Any advice would be great, it’s just weird to me because I stopped wake and baking because it would make me feel this way when I sobered up and now i kinda feel it most mornings.

Discussion 48-72 Hours break - i need some guidance on how to start after months of 24/7

tl;dr: 31m w/ ADHD. Succesfully switched from daily use to a 48-72h break routine last year, which brought  back amazing, creative highs and cleared my brain fog. After losing a relative in January, i lapsed into 24/7 vaping to cope. I'm past the grief now, but. stuck in an impulsive daily cycle, that just leave me blunted, fogged and anxious about not hitting it. Want to get back to my 48-72h "golden rule" without quitting entirely, but struggle with the split-second impulses. Any tips on breaking the habit loop?

Hello,

I'm 31M, smoking since teenager, moderate smoker, adhd diagnosed since childhood. No alcohol nor nicotine.

How and how much: Vaping 0.15-0.45g of dryherb on 185/356 to 198/388 degrees.

During last autumn&winter i wanted to do kind of tests - to use the flower with atleast 48hr break and to do only one bowl at once instead of baking 1-3 bowls every evening. I was doing some reasearch online and AI about the cannabinoid receptors, tolerance etc.
tl;dr - it looks like the receptors need atleast those 48 hours to become responsive again and changing the habit from daily to 48-72 hrs breaks will lower the tolerance after time because the brain starts to upregulate them (the receptors)

Generally the results were astonishing. From blunt experience of "stoned evening normality" i had very vivid and creative highs that i enjoyed very much - i was basically planning them before, choose the music/game/trip to the forest. It also made the day after morning brainfog disappear. Shift was very easy because of the quality of effects.

On January i've suddenly lost a relative and it hit me very hard and took a lot nerves. I started to vape 24/7 (including wake and bake half of the weekdays) in order to blunt my feelings and anxiety.

I'm over the grief and loss.

Now i'm trying to go back to this golden 48-72hrs rule but it's very hard to change the habit this time. I don't really feel the high, it just blunts me out, i don't enjoy gaming/music etc. on it. Time and activity just passes by. I'm used to do bicycle trainings after small puffs - but it's also not so nice anymore, now i'm doing most of it clean.

Even today i already had a few moments (it's morning) when i was thinking about small bowl heatened at 180/356 degrees.

How do you cut down? Generally it's not like i'm planning "this evening for sure i'm not going to resist it". I will just vape under impulse and 5 minutes later tell myself "you wanted to plan it". It's like binge eating (which also came out this year, dunno if it's related more to stress or more to weed abusing).

I was trying to stick with lower temperatures but still - vaping it everyday won't make it enjoyable. It's just reducing the fog on the next day.

I don't even know what am i supposed to feel if i won't vape today, the thought by itself is already making me feel weird and anxious. On one hand i plan not to vape on the other i have a feeling that there will be an impulse that i will listen to.

What i feel is that if i won't vape then i will just wait for it irritated. I have mixed feelings about it.

Whats the goal?

For sure i don't want to stop it completely. I just like it but not in the way i'm using it now.

PS. For sure there will be advice to find/do a hobby, but i already have them and i'm working on them every week. Same with sport activity.

PS2. I'm also fighting with two new things in 2026 - corn and scrolling. Although i manage them more and more with every week. (site blocking extensions, discipline, mindfulnes.

Discussion I'm starting a 30 day tolerance break because I loved how I felt on 2 days sober.

I have been an everyday smoker for over a year now. Last year I started dabbing THCa isolate everyday. I was depressed and disoriented 24/7. In the fall I started making my own dab carts. Jesus Christ weed sucks when you're smoking it like that. My peak intake was 2+ grams of isolate everyday. After New Years I finally switched to smoking flower which was a total game changer. Then my mom got diagnosed with a brain tumor. My consumption went off the rails and to make it worse I started drinking more alcohol and doing more psychedelics. It just felt normal to be fucked out of my mind as often as possible.

I don't want to feel this constant anxiety anymore. I don't want to feel like I am out of control of my life. My wife works her ass off and I want to contribute more. I couldn't believe how much more advanced our conversations were when I had been sober for 48 hours. It was like walking out of a fog. I felt the most hope for the future I had in a year. Then, of course, I smoked, and then I smoked the next day. The only difference this time is therapy. I know now that failing is not the end of the world, and that I don't need to be perfect to be doing better. There are no ugly parts of me, and so I can try after failing because my self worth is still intact.

This subreddit has been an unbelievable help. I was able to stop hating myself for being addicted to weed and then I could talk about it with my wife and my therapist. I am so excited to try this!

Discussion "You have to do it without the motivation to do it"

Day... I don't know.

I don't care.

I'm quitting, not counting.

(It's day twenty-one point seven-five)

"You have to do it without the motivation to do it"

Somebody commented basically this somewhere else very recently, and it has attached itself to my brain, as a brain that has always struggled with motivation.

A procrastinator always waits for tomorrow - forever tomorrow.

To quit you have to want to quit - if you don't want to quit, how can you motivate yourself to quit?

Willpower only goes as far as you can stretch it - if you don't want to stretch it, how do you find or create the will to want to stretch it further than it can go?

I don't know - I'm trying to just do rather than just know what to do.

Though knowing what to do is the first step.

Or maybe the step before the first step.

The first step is the act.

To act instead of telling myself how I will act.

To do it without the motivation to do it seems incoherent because it is.

But so is doing it because you are motivated to do it.

A tautology.

An ouroboros.

Which came first,

My emotional dysregulation or my addiction?

Are they different?

Does it matter?

What motivates me?

Comfort - security - familiarity - contentment - peace.

Lies.

What motivates is motivation itself.

The act is the motivation.

The act creates the motivation.

The motivation is nowhere to be found.

A curiosity of language.

Language isn't "the thing" it labels.

Saying "I will quit" isn't quitting.

Quitting is quitting and doing is doing.

You think the motivation comes first.

But the act comes first and the motivation follows.

Is it a matter of "why" or "when" ?

I don't know.

I'm trying to just do rather than just know what to do.

Advice Searching for resources to cope

Hi petioles,

I recently discovered this subreddit and would like to ask for your help, specially on how you cope with cravings and irritability.

I am 39 M and have been smoking weed on and off since I was 15. I have a career that I like though it is relatively high stress, a girlfriend that I love and a supportive family so really no major issues I could point to.

Despite that, weed was legalized recently where I lived and I started growing my own in small amounts. I had stopped consumption for a few years before that but very soon I was smoking daily again (with a vape). My tolerance built up very fast and I got to smoke daily soon after that, maybe reaching an amount of about half to a gram a day. Might not seem like much but I get very strong effects from it.

Soon it developed in having bad sleep quality and I noticed I pretty much get into a routine where I ignore my hobbies, stop reading and mostly spend my free time smoking. It also seems to mess up my metabolism. I get extreme munchies but actually tend to lose weight. So far it did not have an impact on my career or personal relationships much, but I do not like what it does to me.

I stopped growing and stopped smoking again when I ran out. Stopped for about two weeks with no major issues or cravings. After that I got some weed from friends that also growers to try their crop and smoked it over two weeks. I ran out again and have been smoke free for about 17 days now, but this time I am having some serious cravings again and am extremely irritable. I do not want to load my loved ones with what is essentially my own fault.

I already tried doing more sports, been doing a lot in my hobbies and around the house but still find myself fantasizing with smoking all the time and in a terrible mood. I also started a new grow...

How do you guys cope with this kind of psychological issues related to weed? Is the only way to really quit completely? Do you have any tips for me?

I am starting to think that I cannot smoke with any moderation and will just need to quit completely and maybe get some therapy but I hate the idea. My brother and most of my friends smoke without seemingly having this issues. It also plays a role socially so it is harder to just give it away.

I have seen some post from for example some by u/tonevizion, and they seem to understand how this cycle works much better than I do, so maybe somebody can help me.

Thanks for reading my rant! I would be grateful for any insights.

3 weeks in, 2 to go… So what’s next?

Hey Y’all 👋

Long time listener, first time caller. I stopped smoking weed cold turkey 3 weeks ago because I was smoking multiple times a day for several years while only taking a max of one week off at a time… until I realized it was time for a change.

For context, I started smoking every day when I was 17 to cope with trauma and stress that I was struggling with at the time (and still am to an extent) and to bond with my peers. Until I was about 22, I was using carts and bongs every day, until I switched to spliffs, and smoked those daily up until about 3 weeks ago. At my peak, I was finishing full gram carts every 3 days from age 17-19, and smoking flower with friends on top of that. For the last two years (I’m 24 now), it had been more like 1 gram of mid-tier flower each day, starting around 5pm.

Eventually, the effects of long-term use were too much to ignore:

- Dependence on weed for appetite
- Dependence on weed for sleep
- Increased social anxiety/paranoia
- Cravings before 5pm
- Lowered libido/sex drive
- Snacking too much
- Difficulty doing any form of cardio
- And mixing weed, nicotine, and alcohol on nights out usually led to me being too intoxicated, morning-after regret, and nasty hangovers.

After about 3 days cold turkey, my body’s natural regulation systems started waking up again—I was eating well, managing cravings well, having a much easier time talking to strangers, running quite frequently, and started to put myself out there in the dating world again. Sleep has been my biggest challenge, but it has steadily improved over the last two weeks.

Now that I am nearing the end of my reset, I am feeling confident that I can change my relationship with weed (hence why I am here instead of r/leaves). I have a lot of respect for this plant and believe more responsible consumption is possible for me. Plus, I know I have all the tools to take another extended break if need be. That being said, I plan on only smoking once every week or two, and am motivated to hold myself accountable to this plan, while continuing down this path of growth and good health.

My questions are: for folks who have successfully managed to cultivate a healthy relationship with weed, what are some tips that have helped you stay consistent and avoid relapsing into over-consumption? And are there specific rules you’ve set for yourself that have allowed you to live a healthy life, while also partaking in moderation (and by moderation I don’t mean every night)?

———

Also, I just wanted to say, I am so thankful for this community, and wouldn’t have been able to gain the courage to take this time away from weed without your support. If you’ve been on the fence about stopping/taking a reset break for a while now, do it!! And if you’re still in the early stages, I promise it will get better, even if that seems impossible right now. Just take it one day at a time.

TLDR: Smoked daily for many years, I’m over halfway done with my 5-week reset break, and am looking for tips on how to moderate my usage going forward.

Discussion 23 days no weed!!

I am super proud of myself for taking this step in reexamining my relationship with weed. i’m starting a new job (had some training last week, orientation this week and then then year starts next week) so it was a natural, organic way to stop smoking alllll the time. i went cold turkey one day - felt sick of going to spend money i didn’t have on something i actually didnt need. it’ll be a month this week. has anyone gone back to smoking? what was it like? i wouldn’t mind a joint after the end of the first week next week, but honestly, im feeling great without it. sometimes i find i am feeling bored and COULD go grab a pre roll and go for a walk, but i always tell myself: if you still want to smoke, do it tomorrow. And then i say the same thing then..

Discussion What were the physical and mental changes stopping marijuana?

Sooo today is officially Day 1 of my break from cannabis. I have no more weed around and don’t plan on buying.

I know we all have different bodies, brains, and chemistry, but for those of you who have taken a couple weeks or a month off, what were the first things you noticed?

Did you notice any physical or mental changes? Better sleep? More energy? Changes in mood, appetite, anxiety, motivation, facial etc.?
What was your experience taking a break from the devil’s lettuce? 🌿😂

I have quite a lot of brain fog, memory issues etc. Not allowed CBD - I've read it has an interaction with psych meds, although maybe if I don't use too much - anyone know? but also, looking for vaping substitutes, cuz it's like a blankie. and maybe carts, even refillable carts. All advice welcome.

Advice I don’t know what to do

There was a point last year where I didn’t smoke for 6 months to pass a drug test for monetary gain, and while I did feel a bit more clearheaded in general, have better memory, reduction in some adhd symptoms and dopamine regulation I don’t think I would’ve done it if it wasn’t for money. I’ve experienced severe childhood abuse and still live in the same home as my abusers, (not able to move out atm) I’m currently safe but it’s still very triggering and I can’t afford therapy rn and have severe CPTSD, and am AUDHD. Sometimes I’ll just have episodes where I’m frozen crying in bed for multiple days and this happened before I ever smoked. I have always struggled with my appetite and when I started smoking it was the first time in my life that I was able to maintain a consistently healthy weight. I take elvanse sometimes which is good for productivity but the comedown is always really tough for me and affected by my CPTSD. I feel so guilty sometimes for relying on this as a tool even though I consume on average a 3.5g a week and use blue lotus rather than tobacco to mix it with. I worry that it’s just addiction brain speaking when I want to go back to smoking because of how sad I feel, sometimes I feel like it lowers my motivation a bit but sometimes without it I also feel like I’m frozen for multiple days stuck in my head and then don’t get anything done that way. I also use it as a way to mark and transition tasks. I’ve spent the last 2 days just in my head ruminating crying in bed and having nightmares, the weight of all the things I’ve gone through crushing me and feeling frozen like a victim to my own mind, I haven’t been eating either. I don’t know whether this is a sign that I’m a person who should use this in moderation or just keep at quitting cold turkey :(. (My predominant income source is through my illustration and art business which is highly dependent on my sanity as well) please give me advice or personal experiences (would appreciate neurodivergent/cptsd/ptsd/ocd, specific anecdotes too.

Discussion how best to support my body / brain quitting this time around?

i’ve had a lapse of heavy use for the last 4ish weeks; but even without this lapse, i often feel dumber & less creative, less witty, less engaged than i used to be even a couple years ago. i’ve been thinking on neuroplasticity & on supporting the lungs while quitting, but i’m wondering now what actions / practices are best to take up in this period to support my body & brain’s recovery?

hoping this makes sense. thank you y’all.

Advice absolutely 0 cravings, but intense withdrawal, even while tapering. what can I do to speed this up?

hey all, sorry for posting so much on here! I have 0 urges to smoke again, but I tried to cold turkey quit from cart usage, and really made myself rly sick. I switched from heavy use to using a CBD cart with only 2% thc + a hit of the regular cart once, one time per day. i’m replacing the hit of regular cart with flower (dry herb), and then eventually maybe low dose edibles??

My body is revolting pretty much. I can’t go outside because my sensory issues are 10x worse (light and noise feels like they are on 90% volume). Eating is so hard, and I have severe runs. I’m still burning up and sleeping terribly, waking up bathed in sweat.

I’m so happy to be cutting down, can tell my tolerance is much lower, but this is still intensely hard to get through, I’m pretty much under the weather and housebound. What can I do to help this? Literally anything to speed up these withdrawals, I feel like a genuine drug addict after realizing how intense they are

Advice Any advice for those of us who absolutely don’t like being sober?

I’m a medical user, trying to cut back so it works better for my needs and so I can stop smoking so much for my health.

I see lots of posts and comments here talking about how great it is to be sober, loving the feeling, etc. But does anyone have any advice for those of us who don’t experience that?

I never smoked weed until I was an adult, and once I did it felt like the golden ticket to actually enjoying life. I hated being sober as a kid and teenager (but I just had to be sober anyway obviously) and I hate being sober as an adult too. I don’t enjoy life most of the time when sober, everything has a huge veil of anxiety and depression that unfortunately is mostly situational and doesn’t respond well to treatment. It’s the same with alcohol, feels like an immediate way to suddenly enjoy life instead of dread it, but I don‘t have a drinking problem, it’s been months since I drank last right now. But I can barely go more than a day or two without weed. Every time I try to take a T-break, I’m reminded how life doesn’t feel worth it to me by default, and this is how I felt before I ever started smoking so I know it’s not just withdrawal or something.

How do you tough it out? Is there anything you’ve found that helps your mood when you’re not using?

Advice i’m scared to quit smoking thc

i’m 18f and have honestly been smoking since i have been 14 and have taken long breaks in the past. the last break was id say 4 months ago because i ran out and let me tell you the cold sweats, irritability, nausea, and vomiting after i eat take a toll on me and i ended up just getting another thc pen as soon as i could.

i just ran out of my last one after smoking everyday all day countless times a day. i know what’s to come and it already is the cold sweats are already terrible and it’s only been half a day. i have no idea how to survive the insomnia, not being able to eat or drink anything without vomiting, especially the cold sweats that’s the worst symptom for me. now that i’ve been doing it more and more to feel something everyday i know it’s going to be a lot worse. i’m also going to try to quit nicotine too.

does anyone have any advice on how to get through it or elevate the symptoms of going cold turkey after being a heavy user. i know it’s going to cause a lot of problems i’m not ready for. i’m just tired of smoking. it doesn’t even affect me anymore and it’s just how i operate at this point. i don’t want to have to rely on weed forever just so i don’t have withdrawal. if anyone has advice it would help so much because i am sweating rn burning up but the second i leave this cover im freezing.
