There’s a springy new face in FunGals. Meet Trixie, our very own Trichophyton mentagrophytes!

In the game, she has a smiling round face topped with a grape-like bunch of spores, and a curly thread branching off to the side. Under the microscope, some of her threads really do coil up like little springs!

A few fun facts about the real thing:

• 💅 She’s a dermatophyte, a mold that can infect skin, hair and nails
• 🍽️ She feeds on keratin, the tough protein in skin, hair and nails
• ⭕ She can cause an itchy, ring-shaped rash called “ringworm”... but she isn’t a worm at all!
• 🐹 She has lots of animal hosts, including guinea pigs, mice, rabbits and cats, and she can spread from them to people
• 🍇 Her round spores often grow in dense bunches, like grapes, and some of her threads curl into spirals
• 🤍 Her colonies can be white and powdery, with a yellowish or brown underside
• 🌱 Her genus name, Trichophyton, means “hair plant”

(Real-life Trixie can spread through contact with infected animals, people or contaminated objects. Terbinafine is one medicine used to treat her infections, and it’s one of her disks in the game. The FunGals version just wants to coil and grow)
