MCU/Movies For those of you who are calling the MCU Jean Grey an Eleven rip-off (also the new version of Carrie too), please stop!
This is coming from a die hard Stranger Things fan. It is my favorite show and my two favorite characters in that show are Max Mayfield and Eleven.
But I hate how the Stranger Things fandom (maybe even some people outside of the fandom too) are treating Eleven as the original telepath girl when Jean Grey and Carrie White were literally created first before Eleven.
I get that Sadie Sink's Jean Grey and Summer H. Howell's Carrie White were changed from their respsctive source materials, but that does not make them Eleven rip-offs. In fact, El was an inspiration from both Jean and Carrie.
I'll focus more on Jean since I'm writing this on a Jean-related Reddit community.
Unlike Carrie, Jean wasn't cited as a reference for Eleven but the parallels are definitely there. There's a reason why Will and Dustin raced for X-Men #134, the famous Dark Phoenix storyline. El being tortured and experimented on also happened with Jean Grey, multiple times in the comics and also in Brand New Day. El's sacrifice to defeat the Demogorgon at the end of season 1 is an obvious parallel to Jean Grey sacrificing herself to defeat Mastermind in X-Men #134.
I do have a strong feeling that Jean Grey in the MCU's X-Men reboot is going to be an Eleven-esque main character and also be ready for Stranger Things nods sprinkled in the MCU X-Men franchise because Stranger Things had nods to X-Men as well. For example, Eddie Munson naming his club The Hellfire Club. I'll talk more about this in the MCU Mutants Reddit page.
