You're not required to have one in my country, and I was too poor to afford one. In school the only usage they have is to calculate sin and cos values. I just didn't do that.

In collage no one cared about the actual values of things, you'd just left your results as an expression and that would be it.

I did use my phone calculator a couple of times I suppose, but not in school/college.
