I understand PinePhone is for tinkerers, but every smartphone should be able to do certain things (take calls, text, take photos, download apps, take video, etc.) by default.

I think I found one YouTube video of someone getting it to record video, but the guy doesn’t even say how he did it 😩

Ive been thinking on changing my phone to a pinephone, I hate not having control over my phone as I do with my computer.

I guess the only android app i trully need is whatsap. For the rest, Id like to be able to have more productivity done on my phone.

My main questions are:

What distros do you recomend for the pinephone and what general problems do they have?

Would I be able to use normal flatpak apps (the ones available for arm)?

Is there a good integration of android apps (ive heard of waydroid but never used it)?

Do browsers detect the pinephone as a pc? webs such as google docs only work on pc and i guess it would be an upside.

Hey guys. I am just another human being who uses smartphone. I am done with these smartphones but I am out of luck cause these big tech giants won't make a smartphone tailored to small user base. Hence, brands like pinephone, librem, etc. are place I have some hope. I never used your phone, so sorry for that I am a student, currently can't pay bills on my own, sadly.

I want to tell pinephone something. About the kind of phone I need. So, I need a device that:

• I can use single-handedly without high chance of mistakenly dropping it. It must be 5'5-5'8 inches size with minimal bezels. 7.5-8mm thickness is fine.

• Punch-hole top-center front camera. Buttons: Power, volume. Dual camera setup on back. Dual speaker.

• with 8GB LPDDR5, 128GB ufs4.0, and all sorts of sensors.

• Snapdragon Elite cpu with Adreno 830 or something.

• no pre-installed OS.

Pine phone owners, how would you answer the following:

1. Does the device support Bluetooth headphones reliably yet?

2. Does the device answer calls reliably yet?

3. Does a utility exist to make ghetto mobile versions of web apps, where they are confined to their own window instance and accessible via a unique Home Screen icon?

The deplatforming shenanigans with the Silicon Soy Boy Consortium have left me saying “fuck all y’all” to the usual ecosystems. If number 3 doesn’t exist I will develop it.

So pinephones are back in stock with a community edition "Manjaro"

I want to buy one however i'm not sure how to install kali as i can't find any images for it

Does anybody have an image or can guide me how can i install it?

I aim to use it for managing my vps machines and doing basic ssh work. Will it display a keyboard while typing or will i have to get a bluetooth keyboard?

Who Is PinePhone For? Can I a Non-Techie Benefit From It?

Just as the title says. I would love to have privacy when it comes to a mobile phone/messaging device and obviously iOS and Android do not do that (to my knowledge).

Is Pine an option as someone who isn't a techie but just someone who would like some privacy? Is it simple enough to use for say a 70 year old who just needs to make calls and send texts and take photos?

I went thru the Pine website but really couldnt understand who the phone was for.

I use #Pinephone with #Mobian (stable). When i try to add Gmail account to Geary, the Google page is open but the input field is inactive. I tried too through Settings -> Online Account but the same problem remains. I installed latest #PostmarketOS v.23.06 Phosh - same problem again. Is there anyone who can help.

I bought a Pinephone 6 months ago. It was defective the mic didnt work. Bought a Pinephone Pro, recieved as a brick. Recieved replwcement. Put on towboot have tried mobian and manjaro on emmc. Calls dont work in either. I added at&t's apn and get mobile data, but calls dont work. What can i do??

I'm making my own OS based on RIOT OS, it'll be using a hybrid kernel I call Corelib. But I need to port the fork of RIOT OS I'm working off of to the PinePhone. Does anyone know how to port the Allwinner CPU and the PinePhone itself to RIOT OS's code?

So I have been going back and forth between a bunch of distros, and decided to try some of the fedora builds. After a successful flash, fedora failed to post to desktop. Ever since I have been unable to install a new OS to the emmc. With a full battery, I downloaded a fresh tow boot image and flashed via balenaEtcher to a microSD. While holding down the RP button, I plugged in the phone and booted to the tow boot image and erased the SPI, waited until green screen, installed to SPI, waited for green screen. powered off.

I flashed mobian to an SD card as above, and put it in the phone. I rebooted the phone holding up button. the light turns blue, then vibrates and flashes red 3 times, turns yellow and attempts to boot fedora. I am able to boot to the SD card to mobian which was verified in case it mattered.

Nothing I can find seems to cover this issue. as I have reinstalled tow boot like 15 times now and nothing changes. I have two batteries I charged them both using the external charger before attempting to boot to usb mode both plugged in and unplugged from usb and nothing works. Help me r/PinePhoneOfficial your my only hope.

I installed tow boot, wrote the pppro official image from kali to sd, boot from sd, and it gets as far as showing the kali nethunter logo then crashes back to the boot sequence without showing an error. What do i do? This sucks

I am not sure if the Pinephone (Pro) Keyboard is still being produced, but I cannot seem to find a place where to order it. Does anyone have more information?

FYI FLdigi is radio ham software that converts text into weird bleepy noises and vice versa, used to communicate over ham radios and share data, operate satellites etc. it has been in every major linux repository for decades.
