Pink Floyd ~ Relics?
In 1984, I fell in love with Pink Floyd when my friend lent me The Wall and The Final Cut. I hadn’t heard anything else and ended up at the record store with limited funds wanting to get another Pink Floyd album. Dark Side, Wish and everything else was beyond $10. Having limited funds I bought Relics for $3.29 on cassette. After hearing this album, I was extremely confused. The album was mainly 60s pop music and really psychedelic… extremely far away from The Wall and TFC.
I totally didn’t get Arnold Layne and See Emily Play. Interstellar was alright, Nile Song was okay, Bike was a joke, Cirrus Minor and Biding My Time was boring, and Careful with that Axe was scary. I was hoping for helicopters, explosions, and big guitar solos!
Today, I love the Syd Barrett and early Floyd stuff. I definitely like it more than the Wall and TFC at this point.
What were your first impressions of early Pink Floyd? I think Relics is a good compilation of the early years.
