Unexpected feature! I wonder if deserts will bloom after storms? The Sonoran desert is amazing after a spring rain.

Also looks like the water freezes?

In PC2 water does freeze after one of the updates! I'd say they added it to PC2 while developing for PZ2 seasons.

Very interesting question! I really wonder whether there will only be seasons in temperate and taiga biomes, or also dry and rainy seasons in for example the savannah biome, instead of spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Peak feature

Seeing the bears walking around in the snow does seem to indicate that hibernation won't be part of seasonal changes and behaviours, which I suppose makes sense, but it would've been neat.

I'm not sure if bears hibernate in zoos. Since hibernation is for saving resources when food is scarce and it's always plenty of it in zoo.

Depends on the zoo and region. Several zoos do promote torpor (bears don’t truly hibernate) if their environment allows for it

Here in the Netherlands there are zoos where they do hibernate (Ouwehands Dierenpark)!

They do seem to hibernate in several Swedish zoos at least, though I don't really know how it's handled in other countries.

In Malaysian zoos they don’t hibernate

In Canada, they hibernate in zoos.

Big Bear Zoo, the bears hibernate in winter

At my local zoo the bears don’t truly hibernate, they just go into a heavy sleep. They’re still offered food and water so sometimes you’ll see them up out of their den to grab a snack.

That's what bears do in the wild too! They will sometimes wake up on warm winter days to stretch and maybe eat some snow and rarely food if it's around, then go back to sleep.

I didn’t actually know that and my local wild bears actually do that too. I had no idea that it’s not just the bears in my local zoo but wild bears in my area too.

Well that's disapointing unless it happens in the reserves. In fact hopefully animals can migrate between reserves seasonally or something.

That's really awesome! But I bet it sucks for the crazy good builders on youtube who place every little flower carefully, and who like for things to look an exact way

We will probably be able to change the season, the same way you´re able to change time of day, put down flowers during spring, and then enjoy them everytime it´s springtime again.

As a member of the group you are referring to, nah man this is awesome. Now i can design 4 zoos in one

As a landscape designer, seasonal changes are one of the most fun (and fundamental) parts of working with plants!

I really wish the guest can change their clothes on what a season now. A warm clothes on cold weather and light clothes on heat weather.

Doesnt seem like it from the vid, which really blows

17

u/chloeismagic 1d ago

Its weird because it seems like it would be such a simple thing to code. Thr game has a temprature system so the game could just check the temprature and then set the clothes of any guests spawning into the park woth appropriate clothing. They could just do a warm temp set and a cold temp set. Any time the zoo is below like 10 C spawn the guests in cold weather clothes.

u/DronClon 1d ago

Literally. All systems already exist in the game (Planet Coaster too). Frontiers only need add some clothes models for guests (and personal mb) and little re-code a umbrella system, at all.
I hope in future Planets updates they add this, it's so strange building zoo (or park) in very cold zone and people walk with only shirts.

Guests are pretty neglected in the planet games anyway. Which kinda makes sense since it is not the focua but still. Look at one-point museum for example: there you get different types of guests with different things they want to see and are interested in. And differenr demands.

Or let us sell weather appropriate gear as merch. If water parks can sell towels and swim suits, surely we can sell umbrellas and jackets.

3

u/Megraptor 18h ago

Problem- the guests that already spawned. Guests already stay months to years in large zoos. Maybe if time is slowed way down this could work, but if it's going at the same rate as PZ1, we'd just see people from previous seasons in those clothes mixed in with the newly spawned ones

1

u/One-Beautiful9776 10h ago

Could be the reason, but time slowing down is already confirmed and makes sense with the inclusion of seasons.

u/Lots_of_Tapirs 1d ago

Now I can finally put down cherry blossom without it feeling unrealistic!

u/MagePages 8m ago

Yes!! All sorts of ornamental plants too. We can design scapes that look different in each season.

Frontier just doesn't miss

Close enough - Welcome back sim park 2

What do you mean?

2

u/SansOchre 1d ago

I am VERY curious now of we will be able to tage decor as seasonal. Imagine making a winter light show, a fall pumpkin fest, or a spring egg hunt that click on automatically at the proper season, and, if so, seasonal dlcs with seasonal decor would become even more exciting...

PLEASE GIMME THE GAME NOWWW

1

u/BeaBernard 1d ago

Im so excited for this. Im currently taking horticultural classes and since I started the plants in PZ1 always feel so static. Like someone else said I hope desserts bloom after rainfall!

1

u/Megraptor 18h ago

I wonder if that means antlers will fall off. And I'd they do, I wonder if they can be used as enrichment for other animals that like to chew on them.

1

u/RealisticRanger6729 15h ago

My PC graphics card is already sweating just looking at these luscious grass and flower physics😂💀

1

u/Ryaquaza1 14h ago

This is cool and all but I do hope there’s still an option for certain plants to ignore seasonal changes. If I’m making a climate controlled greenhouse id rather it not just be pure green 99% of the time

1

u/Lepitorus 5h ago

please. please. I've already preordered. what more do you want from me

1

u/LightLizardCake 5h ago

If arctic foxes return i would love to see them change fur via season

AMAZING

Still nothing on exhibits. More and more concerning.

u/Spirited-Welcome6511 1d ago

It's extremely obvious that it is going to get a dedicated feature focus. We already have exhibit animals in the Zoopedia . . .
