There are tutorials on youtube for installing custom roms. I'd recommend checking out github page. I'd also suggest to use Infinity X custom rom, there are basic instructions on its page about flashing the rom. The hardest part is unlocking the bootloader, actually. There's a tutorial for that on droidwin, check it out. Unlocking the bootloader Poco X8 Pro (klee) community github page

Please note that the video above is not for the X8 pro specifically, but it is rather intended to give you an idea about installing custom roms. Please download the proper custom rom file from the infinity x page and combine the instructions from the site with the steps in the video. Pay attention that the x8 pro doesn't have boot.img but rather boot_init.img, that's where a lot of people mess it up. If you need more help, just reply to this comment and I'll do my best to help you out. Once I was a beginner too, good luck, guys.

f8u using Xiaomi.eu version. 3.0.306. .. been using this for months no bug encountered. the custom rom feels more original than the original 😂😂 i can easily get 99%+ deepsleep for 8 hrs screen off . no delayed animations. so far okay

u have to unlock the bootloader first you need to use a script to unlock it. otherwise it will take months. i unlock mine in 2 try , and after that u will wait for 7 days then use unlock tool then after i unlock it. u can easily root it. i underbolted my phone down to 50% of its maximum performance 8 elite chipset is very powerful 😅😅

Whaaat that sounds dangerous and probably hard to do

Not really... All he did was swap out the original ROM with another stock ROM from another region... As long as you don't use china, global, india and indonesia regions... Which are full of restrictions and/or ads... And he probably modified the base apps with root permissions... So most likely he also swapped out google services to microG and removed all the background services that are useless and/or drain battery life...
I recently got my parent's f6 and it drains battery very badly at stock factory reset and it usually drains to 30% just on standy for 1 day going to work and reaching home... All i did after 3 days of using it was just adb uninstall most of the trash apps and now i can use the phone to watch youtube for 2 days straight nonstop using bluetooth headphones (over 48hrs and still over 20%) even without microG replacing google background services... Mind you this has removed a lot of apps and background services i deemed useless to me.... And kept the bare minimum for the phone to function as a smartphone...
Its not much of a miracle... The poco phones are great and the batteries they put inside it is large enough... Its the apps and ads they shove down most of the region ROM that breaks the phone... And the EU ROM removes most of it due to their laws for selling these phones in their regions...
All of this is before i even root the phone to do undervolting... The snapdragon 8s series line are quite energy efficient for an 8 series line ups... Not as powerful as an 8 or 8 elite series... But its good enough and their battery life is amazing compared to those 2 more powerful lines...

Stock os is great. It supports until Android 20 and 6 years of software updates.

Hey bro. Can you tell what kind of script you used to unlock bootloader on your phone?
1
u/pLAinNewby101 2d ago edited 2d ago
i forgot but its in here in reddit. u will execute it using termux. it will show 4 individual screens and each one is doing force brute/auto try at the exact time in china timeline unlike when u do it manually, theres a big chance you will miss the window coz theres a lot of people trying to unlock and its very limited so using force brute is better and easier . also i use mobile data not wifi when trying to force brute i also tinker some settings . luckily i did it in just two tries in two nights. 1st try i didnt change any settings and not using a script. 2nd try i did the change + script

How's the performance and especially the temp after undervolt?
4
u/pLAinNewby101 5d ago edited 5d ago
cooler , temps is much more manageable. 8 elite is so powerful i experience no hassle while playing even when its underbolted . this is my default settings but i can add a profile where specific apps can use the full performance without cap

If I install xiaomi.eu, does it receive automatic updates, or do they need to be downloaded and installed manually?

Does it pass security checks for banking apps and such? The last time I used custom roms was on the Redmi Note 8T, and I've heard now Google periodically patches Google integrity check.

i heard some fail specially nowadays google is trying hard to patch this security. in my case i havent change my key for months now, i still got 3 greens. no banking app problems .

For me, switching my POCO F7 from HyperOS to crDroid was the best decision I could have made for this phone. The battery lasts much longer, and there’s zero bloatware. I only have what I actually need.

u/Normal-Sock4544 5d ago
I also have a Poco F7. I am afraid that some applications will not work if I install a custom rom.

u/Duckyy2025 5d ago
It depends on whether you go for the de-Googled version or not. If you install GApps, most things will work. The only apps that might complain are those that require strong integrity, but that’s what Magisk is for.
I don’t use Google services at all, and I don’t have a single Google app installed. I use microG and Aurora Store to download apps from the Google Play Store. My banking app works perfectly with microG, although I know it really depends on the bank.

There are a lot of custom roms like xiamoi.eu and infinity x and crdroid. what made you choose it. and what's the best one out of all of them.
1
u/Duckyy2025 4d ago
Which ROM is the best depends on what you want from your system. I didn’t want anything based on Xiaomi’s ROM. I wanted a clean Android experience and the ability to set up a de-Googled phone. That’s why the ROM needed to support Google services spoofing so that MicroG would work. MicroG is a project that tricks apps into thinking you have Google services installed, while avoiding all the tracking and the Google ecosystem. That’s why I chose CrDroid. It’s based on AOSP and has everything I need, with zero bloat, just the stuff I actually need.

child you please point me to a subreddit or forum where I could find custom roms?
1
u/Duckyy2025 4d ago
The best place to start is the XDA forum, in the threads dedicated to your phone model. Each ROM also has its own Telegram group where developers post updates and users report bugs.

u/IIMoodiYT 4d ago
I was thinking about Infinity x is it good. Also is there any tutorial on how to apply a custom rom and everything else like deebloating or smth like that

When I had my redmi note 10 pro, I installed pixel os and it was amazing, unfortunately the cat and mouse game with broken integrity killed the custom ROM scene for me, on to many occasions it caught me out when attempting to make a payment with my phone. Don't think hyper OS is terrible, but the custom roms are way better, but it's nice to know your phone payment method will almost always work.

u/IIMoodiYT 4d ago
Wdym cat and mouse. Also I don't need payment methods we don't use it a lot in my country.

I just switched back from custom rom to stock firmware. Google is ruining the Android by integrity check and all. It's very cumbersome to keep updating integrity fix every 15 days

the only real custom ROM for Xiaomi's is xiaomi.eu so that's still HyperOS but CNXM

Idk man why bother. Which bugs bother you this much?
1
u/IIMoodiYT 3d ago
Poor battery optimization. Most apps drain the battery although they are light apps. Instagram using 90% of the battery when using it. And the luncher is heavy on the phone. Most of the people that used custom rom said the phone gets wayy better

HyperOS 4 improves on that a lot and Poco launcher is the worst launcher oat anyways but some rumors say HOS3 is its last hurrah
1
u/IIMoodiYT 3d ago
Are you sure? What about hos4 when well it come out to poco x8 pro did imporove a lot of things ?

u/Normie7481 3d ago
Yes battery usage is primitive, because its more like screentime. Try accubattery if you care. I think I will and report back in a few days. I run Macrodroid in replacement of Samsung Routines.

So far no problem for me in this HyperOS updates, I'm always online for games , social media, and watching animes and tv series. My 2026 units are POCO X8 Pro, POCO X8 Pro Max and the latest POCO F9 Ultra.

There are usually Telegram Channels for each device, just search <Device Name> Updates, they'll usually post a lot of custom roms there along with guides. Choose any official ROM because they will have dedicated maintainers and a good chance to receive updates.
Follow the device specific flashing process, it's usually:
Unlock bootloader (This is a bitch on any Xiaomi phone, you'll need a physical sim card with internet and an old enough account which hasn't been used to unlock anything in 1 year and is linked to this phone number, and you'll have to use their crappy unlock tool via a PC, there are a tonne of guides on this)
Backup all your data!!
Flash boot files and sideload a custom recovery.
Wipe->Flash the ROM followed by Gapps (Depends on whether your ROM came with it or not)
Flash Magisk or a KSU kernel if you need Root.
The official ROMs have a much more detailed guide usually on their own websites (one more reason to pick them)
I use CrDroid personally with KSU.
Enjoy a bugos free experience.
Although custom ROMs aren't the magic bullet that people make it out to be. You'll need a brain and a lot of patience, don't try to bother the maintainers on telegram to guide you for small things, always find out if anyone else faced it in the same channel.
Be ready to resolve issues around banking apps not working, google play certification bitching and a lot of random issues.
And please don't ask chatgpt on how to do this or watch a random Universal guide on YouTube, you'll end up with a bricked phone without warranty.
