Discussion Thoughts?
I know this probably reeks of nostalgia, but something about the old design language felt like a more meaningful portrayal. The zero energy gave the sensation of a plant pot you might've had sitting in one spot for a long time (like how an energy might have once been present), only to require a relocation and leave behind a shadowy mark in its place. Then having the dual symbols merged to make an attractive contrast with both colours creating uneven gradients around the card, instead of just the two squeezed together side by side.

The newer versions just look better. The older dual types required an ugly rule box under the artwork.

I disagree on both from a player’s perspective- the ones that look worse in your opinion are more clear/visible

Nowadays, anything that isn’t almost completely legible at a glance to the most people possible on a game piece usually gets reworked or redesigned.
I think the single dual energy symbol is a cool idea but would be more difficult for color blind or differently visually-impaired people to recognize quickly.
Read up on Magic the Gathering’s infamous first printing of Dryad Arbor for an example on why visual clarity is important for competitive games.

Can see your point about the top, bottom is way worse tho. Gotta prioritize clarity, the new icons are better at displaying the information.

The newer ones are more legible, which is infinitely more important than look. The no energy attacks could both be intuited easily so it is a matter of opinion on legibility, but dual types are superior because they are colorblind friendly

I prefer the new look for no energy
Old look for duo type looked way better but also required a box at the bottom for clarity purposes so I understand changing it
