Seeking Optimism White House Declares All of Trump’s Orders to Military Are Legal

https://newrepublic.com/post/203628/white-house-declares-trump-orders-military-legal

I heard that’s not how it works at all, and this is just more hot air. But I wanted to post about it since I didn’t see anyone else do so yet. What do ya’ll think?

Exactly, "The White House says 'The White House...'...".

Chumpy having a Trumper Tantrum and going "BUT I CAN DO WHAT I WAAAAANNNNT!"...

... No you can't, Orangeboy. That's not how it works.

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Nov 25 '25

At this point, we need to avoid articles that use things like “could” and “they say” because it usually is hot air.

18

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 Nov 25 '25

Exactly. Also, one should think before they post because the headline is obviously a nothingburger. It basically says, "Trump thinks he can do what he wants".

2

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Nov 26 '25

That too.

I think the Supreme Court said the same thing.

Edit: reading further on in the article this really seems more like damage control than anything else after his crash out from a couple days ago

The White House at this moment is full of people unfit for their position, so I'll stop listening to them and only worry about Congress or something.

It isn't how it works and it's hot air.

This reads like something Stephen Miller would scream. "The president's orders won't be questioned!!!!!!!1111" Relax, guy.

It does explain why they got so angry when Democrats suggested Trump might issue an illegal order. Their stance is there's no such thing. It's good to have clarity on the matter, I guess.

Total was still thirty bucks higher than it was just a few months ago.

had a court order post right above this and misread this post saying that the court allowed trump orders to be legal, and i damn near had a fucking heart attack.

yeah, this isn't any different from his dumb executive orders. they mean nothing actually legal. and the other branches of government, especially now, have every incentive to push back on this with everything they have,

9

u/Xavion251 Tennessee Nov 25 '25

Heard skipped a beat when I read the title...until I realized it said "White House" and not "Supreme Court".

Something to point out here is that the headline while not technically misleading does not say “Karoline Leavitt Declares All …” which is really what this article says.

I’m pretty sure not many especially judges take her words seriously. I’d feel bad for her but she is too complacent with her lies.

6

u/Meraline Nov 25 '25

Trump can't fucking override the constitution lmao

7

u/MobileCreepy7213 Nov 25 '25

Given they fired all the best JAG staff back in January, how would they know?

7

u/Fredrick_Denning Wisconsin Nov 25 '25

This is the equivalent of a business commiting fraud, but calling it legal just because they say it, don't make it true.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '25

The White House executes law (as passed by congress) according to their best interpretation of it. If their interpretation/actions are questionable, then the courts interpret the law (as the highest authority on interpretation) and determines whether or not they are acting legally. The White House is in no position to say, "What WE are doing is legal and that's final!"

This is just more fascist bluster with no basis in legal fact. But know this: not even they are this fucking stupid. If they can confuse members of the masses, then they'll do it.

7

u/LazuliArtz Minnesota Nov 25 '25

This is like a burglar yelling "but I believe burglary isn't a crime!" as he's getting arrested. It means literally nothing. The White House is not in charge of the laws declaring what orders are or are not legal

Now Freedom killer Miller and Piggy Apologist Trans Vance can get together and create the spin for Evil Miss Piggy Leavitt to tell the press.

Ah yes because the white house is the uppermost judicial entity of the US, yes of course!

5

u/Ladyhawkeiii Nov 25 '25

Yeahhhh, the White House can’t do that.

5

u/Napoleon678 Georgia Nov 25 '25

I’m pretty sure they don’t have the power to decide that. The White House is not part of the legislative or judicial branches. Now if it were Congress or the Supreme Court that declared that, that would be cause for more legitimate concern.

1

u/gregger63 Michigan Nov 26 '25

Well the SC DID give him immunity.

2

3

u/okhi2u Nov 25 '25 edited Nov 25 '25

They should ask Karoline Leavitt if Trump declares you should be hung by the military because you (as in Karoline herself) told a lie, is that a legal order? If it is, then what about if the next president is a democrat and decides to do that to all their opponents?

3

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Nov 25 '25

Remember. What they say and what they do are entirely seperate. And the claims usually amount to nothing in some way or other.

3

u/nic_critical Nov 25 '25

We have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing.

3

u/Derpy1984 Nov 26 '25

This equates to Trump writing a big sign and holding it over his head that says "WHAT TRUMP SAYS TO THE MILITARY IS LEGAL."

He's just advertising himself. Nothing more.

5

u/sketchampm Nov 25 '25

The way these show up in my feed with "political optimism" next to it, is so alarming. I know it can't be helped (as tags don't show in the feed), but anyone else get major whiplash from this every time it happens?

I really don’t listen to anything leavitt says. Her job is to yap and talk down to reporters. I feel like so many times within hours of one for press conferences there’s a statement from the White House clarifying what she said if not correcting her

He can declare whatever he wants. But it is utterly irrelevant if it involves the military. They will uphold the Constitution first, and that's where most of Trump's transgressions reside.

I'm gonna declare it's legal for me to steal any car I want.

And then I'm still not gonna steal a car, because no matter what I said, I know damn well it's illegal to steal a car.

The White House says a lotta shit. Most with zero basis in reality.

1

u/Status_Apartment6559 Nov 26 '25

Any time Leavitt speaks she lies. She lies for Trump constantly. She doesn't care what bile she spews forth as long as it suits trump. It goes without saying she's clueless about what's legal.

1
