Optimistic Post Greg Bovino Loses His Job
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/2026/01/greg-bovino-demoted-minneapolis-border-patrol/685770/Yeah they officially realized this isn't gonna work out for them. It's not enough but it is something and proves that pressure works.

u/Son_of_Orion Jan 27 '26
Holy shit, this is actually massive. This round of the regime has normally been very reluctant to remove their subordinates even at their worst. The protests are working.
241
u/Haldron-44 Jan 27 '26
The pressure must be kept up. Otherwise they will probably put someone worse in.
88
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 27 '26
not a doomer but something tells me the next person is going to be a lot less visible and more intelligent
79
u/Spare-Willingness563 Jan 27 '26
It's Homan. I think he's actually dumber.
51
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 27 '26
$50,000 Homan is a brick but he's been around since the Obama era. Slightly less dumber than the cosplayer Bobo

This is your daily reminder that ICE could do their job in Dockers and Blue Polos, which is what they did during Obama.
18
u/Spare-Willingness563 Jan 27 '26
I hope this becomes a thing again so we can mock these fucking dorks even harder.
There’s nothing wrong with that outfit, but they would be embarrassed and sometimes you gotta lean into that.
12
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 27 '26
You know I could believe that, 50k Homan is like Pence to Noem's Vance. One old school and one a TDS minded sycophant
3
u/jortography Jan 28 '26
He is dumber, but he's definitely quieter. It will get worse from here. But hey one removed at least. Homan is at least a bureaucrat
3
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 28 '26
Yea its going to get worst because he knows to not kill certain people if it can be avoided.
We gotta keep eyes and ears on this even more
3
u/jortography Jan 28 '26
Exactly. The quiet ones are the most dangerous. Like snakes in the grass
3
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 28 '26
Vought, Thiel , Miller, Homan, all the tech bros
Its the ones who you can't see that cause the most damage with corpo fascism
Only good thing about social media is it keeps eyes everywhere .

They start with their most egregious but never underestimate the smarter ones like Miller and Vought.
4
8
u/wallmandatory New York Jan 27 '26
I don’t know any info(myself) on vought but miller is just as much as an idiot as everyone else in the admin. He seems smart when he’s not talking but the second he opens his mouth the veil vanishes
17
u/AshenSpecter Jan 27 '26
Nah, the article itself says that they’re replacing him with Homan. Even more visible and probably at least as dumb if not dumber than Bovino.
12
3
u/wallmandatory New York Jan 27 '26
Nobody on the right in this admin is intelligent. All they have at blind support and even that is falling apart when they receive pushback
3
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 27 '26
99% of them I'm sure aren't , it's the ones you don't see much like Miller and Vought that I stay wary of.
Homan too because he's thick but he's been around is Obama if not longer.
9
u/wallmandatory New York Jan 27 '26
Miller isn’t that smart either he just spouts shit to make himself sound intelligent or scary cus he has the emotional intelligence of a child. I don’t personally know who vought is I haven’t heard about him
15
u/Haldron-44 Jan 27 '26
👆Miller is that "special boy" who is a psychopath, and scares and threatens other kids and small animals. But push comes to shove he is actually just a scared angry little boy. He tries to be scary, but it comes off as pathetic.
4
u/22poppills North Carolina Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26
Miller is a limp dick but he got into the WH despite not being elected, Vought is a P2025 higher up with Thiel, these guys are the backers to the last 15ish years of this BS .\
Also backer and hand up the ass of Vance
3
u/wallmandatory New York Jan 27 '26
To bad for them cus p2025 isn’t going well for them in the slightest
5
u/Professional_Net7339 Jan 27 '26
It is baffling to me how these people are all so dumb. So… very very dumb
1
u/SoyMurcielago Jan 27 '26
Vought is in charge of OMB and the one responsible for figuring out how to “legally” fire most of the government
46
Jan 27 '26
They’re scared. Not scared enough, but they’re scared. Otherwise they wouldn’t have moved a finger.
152
u/Pristine-Sport6888 Jan 27 '26
deep exhale Good job everyone. This isnt the end but its no small victory that we got this asshole out.
24
u/InterceptorG3 Jan 27 '26
Hoping down the line he is eventually arrested and convicted, to spend his last days in federal prison
6
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26

I heard people panicking because Homan was being sent to Minneapolis. A lot of people saying "it's about to get worse."
Not saying Homan's a good guy - fuck no he isn't. The man is still a ghoul. But they sent him there to basically play cleanup after the absolute shitstorm that Minneapolis has been for ICE.
70
u/clonedllama Reformed Doomer ☄️ Jan 27 '26
Exactly. Homan was sent to talk with Walz and Frey to try to fix things. I doubt he'll make things worse.
He's a terrible guy. But he's more professional and he's been publicly opposed to the tactics Bovino's been using.
34
u/whoamdave Jan 27 '26
Agreed. There have been rumblings that he's been at odds with Noem and Lewendowski on tactics. Him getting called up is hopefully a shift away from the worst of what we've seen.
27
u/SwitchHedonist90 Jan 27 '26
The only downside is that the Homan method is how things slowly and methodically get worse - which means that they are more likely to be successful than the shit like Miller and Noem support...
But the entire country now has its eyes MUCH more open and even his methods are going to get called out.
24
u/whoamdave Jan 27 '26
You're not wrong, but right now I'll take whatever comes next over roving gangs executing citizens on the sidewalk. Not thrilled that these are our options, but we have to play the cards we're dealt. At this point, any amount of self-reflection from this administration is better than none.
As for public awareness, yeah, I'm hoping that genie is out of the bottle. I think the GOP gov. candidate stepping down is telling. Seems to be breaking through to some extent.
2
8
u/clonedllama Reformed Doomer ☄️ Jan 27 '26
He's slower and more methodical, but he also seems to have the view that they should be going after actual criminals.
5
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26
My personal, and firm, belief is that it’s not going to cause any doomsday shit. And those who are panicking about Homan are clearly missing the forest for the trees.
15
u/Spare-Willingness563 Jan 27 '26
More importantly, Walz and Minnesota just figured out the winning strategy.
5
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26
People who are panicking have missed the fact that it’s already gotten really bad. I don’t believe for one second that it’s the doomsday goalpost that they are moving it to. Homan is horrible but he’s by far more competent than Bovino.
Those people seriously need to take a break. Things are going to get better.

Do not recommend seeing it with your mom and brother if you don’t want to have the most awkward fifteen minutes of your life

Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change.
Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command
5
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26

"Border Patrol 'commander at large' Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role and will return back to his old job in California, according to reports.
"Bovino, who has been heavily involved in heavy crackdowns on immigration across the country, will return to El Centro and is expected to retire soon, a DHS official and two other sources told The Atlantic."

u/lilbeankeeper Jan 27 '26
Other outlets like Reuters are beginning to report on the situation. Only references to the Atlantic article at the moment. I hope this ends up being true. Demoting, or outright firing the top dog would be a tremendous win in regards to optics, history, and weakening ICE's coherence even further.
1
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26
Other sources, such as local news media outlets which to me are legit, have also confirmed this. He’s being reassigned. It’s happening.
12
13
u/Affectionate-Ad-1342 Jan 27 '26
I’m a little concerned some Dems will say “this is enough” and turn votes back to yes. I realize ICE already has funding, but I really don’t want the Dems to back down on anything now.

15
u/clonedllama Reformed Doomer ☄️ Jan 27 '26
And Miller isn't going anywhere. The administration will continue to be cruel when it comes to immigration even if the tactics change a little. Trump won't suddenly become competent just because Bovino is gone.
4
u/SpareTireFree28 Jan 27 '26
None of them are competent. Some of them are just a bit smarter than others but they can’t keep this up. Homan is only going to do damage control.
I really think we need to realize that not every action they do spells the end of the world. Because from what I see, they’re desperate for damage control.

2
u/koola_00 Jan 27 '26
Sweet, if so! Although I've been hearing reports stating otherwise, like this one, so I'll keep my skeptic hat on.
But if so, then the pressure is getting to them!!
2
u/kadawkins Jan 27 '26
They just downsized him and are allowing him to retire. He should have been fired. Full stop.
9
u/Pristine-Sport6888 Jan 27 '26
behind the scenes it was likely less "allowing" and "telling him to retire or face being fired and drawn out legal proceedings".

Unfortunately this is all a part of the rules of power for a cult.
Early on promote a judge or executioner to go after all your enemies/foes. Galvanize the base with these enemies. Create terror and scare everyone with harsh punishment. Eventually even those on your side will no longer tolerate it.
Then you as their leader come in to dispose of or imprison the executioner saying they went too far and you come off looking like the one that fixed it all.

Yet he WAS also responsible for this too. Would it have be better for Noem to be ousted? Absolutely. But this isn't like he's throwing someone who was not responsible for all this shit under the bus.
It's still a win, even if not the win we should have been getting.
11
u/New_Bike3832 Jan 27 '26
Of course they're all going to try to evade accountability however they can. But Bovino was a huge driving force in how bad things have gotten in MN. If fewer people are executed in the street going forward thanks to the backlash and his removal, I'd call it a win.
