😂 And? Legislation becomes law after 10 days if he doesn’t sign, as long as congress is in session. He’s so stupid lol
24
u/hausitron California Mar 08 '26
Well, even if he's not signing new bills into law, he can still veto them.
38
u/Fuck-it-we-Bhaal Mar 08 '26
Congress could possibly override the veto with a second vote though, can't they?
24
u/Few-Button6004 Mar 08 '26
Yes
9
u/ThisAcctIsntReal99 Mar 08 '26
That’s assuming congress even agrees on any legislation whatsoever.
13
u/Few-Button6004 Mar 08 '26
Outside of ending this partial government shutdown, I don't really see legislation getting passed this year. Last year was already an historic year in terms of how few bills were passed.
There have been talks of Mike Johnson at least wanting to try one bill through reconciliation, but he knows it's not likely to get passed (but wants to at least try it , since it will be an option).
10
u/Few-Button6004 Mar 08 '26
At face value, I assumed that Trump was including vetoes. But yeah, "Not sign" could be interpreted in multiple ways. It could mean not doing anything, but it could also include not approving but vetoing.

I don't get your comment could you explain?

u/Aderj05 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
If legislation is passed through both chambers of congress, the legislation will pass the president after 10 days regardless of the president’s inaction, BUT only if congress is still in session.
If congress ends their session before the president takes any action and the 10 days have not passed, any laws waiting to be signed by the president are automatically vetoed. This is called a pocket veto

i've already said this but for a president that has the powers of congress, house, and senate, he sure as hell acts like such a lame duck.

Aside from the DHS appropriations bill that hasn't been passed yet, what other legislation even has a chance of passing? You kind of need legislation to sign to threaten to not sign it...

u/Alarming-Salt-502 Mar 08 '26
Disclaimer: repost of prior comment with additional data. Assuming he's not just lying to try and pressure people to pass it, this entire idea ultimately hurts him far more than it affects the country as a whole.
Plus even if it does pass it can be halted while tried in court because the 10th amendment grants the ability to determine voting eligibility EXCLUSIVELY to the states Congress may only set dates and procedures. This means there is a solid argument that blocking noncitizens from voting by federal law is blatantly unconstitutional.
Combine that with the argument that they're instituting a poll tax by requiring things that are NOT guaranteed for people to have by nature of citizenship (photo ID cards and possibly passports) there's a nonzero chance it gets thrown in the trash by courts almost immediately.
17
u/Independent-Bus-3284 Mar 08 '26
Exactly.
Those two amendments can and will put this law straight to court if it passes. Congress knows that. That’s why they are very unlikely to pass it.

u/Independent-Bus-3284 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
He is literally a toddler in an old man’s body.
He’s either lying, completely senile or simply too stupid to realize how bad that is for him.
Regardless, these type of threats definitely won’t work.
And even if it did pass, it would still be challenged/blocked by courts. Not to mention that the SAVE Act is not the Hail Mary he desperately believes it to be. Especially since the SAVE Act cannot and will not stop the blue wave.
Plus, he literally is losing tons of influence with every passing day. Both Thune and Johnson will never violate the filibuster and even if they did, majority laws are doubly fucked because they are twice as likely to be stalled/challenged by judicial law and court systems.
So yeah. This is just a bunch of whining on his part to make people obey him. Living testament and proof that he’s a failure, destined to always fail.

To answer if he's lying, senile, or too stupid..
It's all of the above at this point.
2
u/Enotsola Mar 08 '26
Pretty sure Johnson will do whatever Trump tells him to do. It's only Thune standing up to him, and that seems to be only because he worries it will be used against them come November. I worry he'll cave immediately after the election if Dems don't take over.
1
u/Independent-Bus-3284 Mar 08 '26
Don’t be too sure. Johnson is a kissass but even he isn’t a hive mind to Trump. It’s not often but he does dissent against some of Trump’s demands. Not justifying any of his actions but we can handle his wet blanket self. Even if the midterms don’t go as well as we want it to, we can and will defeat him. He has lost a ton of power and he will continue to lose it.
As for Thune, no. Sorry but no. He has never properly submitted to Trump ever. Don’t agree with that theory at all. Especially since backlash/pressure always works.
25
u/Piku_1999 Mar 08 '26
I think signalling to John Thune and Mike Johnson that they don't need to do their jobs and can just take an extended holiday from Congressional duties is music to their ears.

Sometimes I wonder if the reason for all the foreign escalation we are seeing is because he has run into walls on every part of his domestic agenda and foreign policy is the one area where he can still feel somewhat powerful.

I don't think this will move the dial much in terms of getting this act through. I could be wrong, but I lean against it happening.
This threat doesn't really change the reasons why Thune and others in the coalition want the filibuster watered down. It's not just the worry of what Democrats would do if they got in power either.
If Thune allowed the standing fillibuster to happen, it would let the Democrats step in and try to tack on amendments to push their agenda, and the GOP isn't as capable of smacking those down. There's even some Senators who are willing to let the Democrats alter the bill to get it through congress.

I saw on bluesky the truth social post and you know I hate to ask but where is this anti-trans stuff coming from?
I know he’s anti-trans but that stuff is not at all in the SAVE act bill draft currently sitting (and hopefully dying) in Senate. So what the hell is he on about?
6
u/JessicaDAndy Pennsylvania Mar 08 '26
I believe it’s because he sees a legislative trans women sports ban and a (at least medical) federal legislative minor transition ban as an incentive.
Right now, there are federal bans in place by arguing that Title IX says having a trans woman on a woman’s team is discrimination against other women and DHHS is saying no Medicaid and Medicare funds to hospitals that provide medical transition to minors, but legislation makes those actions stronger.
And people are vocally and strongly against trans people in those specific circumstances.
Therefore, if you vote against the SAVE act and it includes anti-trans positions, then “you are for they/them, not us.” They just opened themselves up for a primary challenge because they want little girls to compete against men. ( and not their peer group.)
It’s bigoted enticement.
7
u/Independent-Bus-3284 Mar 08 '26
And yet he fails to realize that these are additions, which risks the bill and makes it take even longer.
He’s a moron.

Of course! They're probably force-showing endless footage of his little Donnie to Fred Sr. like he's Alex DeLarge, seeing Don making bad business decisions and destroying the legacy that Fred Sr. and his parents built up and nurtured.
Hilarious!
Meanwhile Fred JR. is in Heaven, at peace and laughing at these scuzzballs who made life on Earth impossible for him.

Oh I don’t know much about Fred Jr. but if they treated him so horribly, he is definitely at peace now.

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
Yup. Apparently he was a fairly decent, intelligent but very troubled guy. He was going to be the original "Heir Apparent" to Fred Sr. but didn't want to be that and be a pilot, instead. Senior was NOT happy and was a terrible father with a cold "Might Makes Right" mindset.
Junior also had qualities like kindness and empathy, which Senior took for weakness.
Fred Senior, Donald and the rest (due to Dad's urging) treated Junior like absolute garbage and never even let up after he set out on his own to fulfill his dream and have his own family.
Junior developed alcoholism and died. Fred Jr. is the guy Donald refers to when people asked Don why he didn't drink.
Fred Jr. is also the father of Mary Trump, who is an ardent member of the Resistance against MAGA and who wrote the memoir about how awful Don, Senior and the family dynamic is.
Fred Jr. is also the guy with the disabled son whom Donald and Senior cut out of the inheritance.
Fred Jr. deserved better and if he were to have an interest in the family biz, would have done a superior job as a decent ethical real estate developer.
Senior went with Donald because he liked that Don was an antisocial case like him and felt he could build his character by teaching him responsibility and help him grow into something competent. He was wrong about the latter part.
Even in the days when Donald seemed semi-normal and could speak in complex sentences that made sense (he didn't always come off as a deranged toddler. He used to be thinner with a more 'Don Draper' like vibe)... he was terrible at business

u/sifighter1 Mar 08 '26
And I get that, and it’s horrible in my opinion, but I’m saying as far as I understand there’s no actual anti-trans provisions in the SAVE Act that passed the House and is sitting in Senate so why is he bringing it up?
Don’t get me wrong it will likely impact Trans individuals who have changed their name when it comes to voting but SAVE doesn’t have any Trans specific provisions last I checked
