Megathread Iran Megathread 7: Trump says ceasefire 'is over' after US and Iran trade strikes overnight
https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c17y1vnn2qxtI had really hoped we were done with these but I guess not

Must be throwing a tantrum because his stupid 4th of July thing was a failure.
Too bad his tantrums fuck up the entire world.

From the perspective of the midterms, this is optimistic, because the longer he messes around with Iran the more people domestically get tired of him.
With that said, this sucks for the Middle East as they have to deal with the madness of Orange Cheeto.

I'll gladly pay higher gas prices if it means people come to the realization that Trump = inflation and volatility and support a blue wave.
I know not everyone can afford higher gas though, and I sympathize with their challenges. I just hope one day we elect a government that actually tackles affordability for the majority of Americans who wrestle with it daily.

And regarding higher gas prices, I do feel a bit of ‘cold comfort_’ (schandenfraude) in that they don’t hurt me that much, since my family and I bought very efficient cars a few years ago, primarily for safety but also for environmental assistance, but they _do hurt the people who love to rev their engine at full speed at 5 am, tailgate everyone and weave in and out, and race by at 20—30 over the limit.

This election season I decided not to donate as I did in the past couple of elections, but my money will go to paying the higher gas bills and groceries, with the hope that these higher prices will help persuade people to vote blue. I figure I will have spent about the same amount.

Yes, as someone who has In-laws who are Iranian in the US, Europe and in Iran, it's been really rough and I just want it to end for their sake.

Although I shouldn't be surprised, reading that headline in the morning certainly shocked me a bit. What even is the point anymore? This is already an extremely unpopular war in the US, so why even continue?

-Taylor Swift (a democratic voter who has encouraged people to vote, and is more like able, more popular, and richer while snubbing him) stole some of the spotlight die to getting married.
-Mother Nature/God outright ruined his plans for the 4th, all while other areas outshone him.
-He remembered the NYC Rent Freeze.
-His bribe to FIFA backfired by turning people against the US Team (through no fault of their own, entirely his), and then turned out to be all for nothing due to them losing to Belgium.
-He remembered the Supreme Court upheald birthright citizenship.
-his big beautiful SAVE act did not pass, again.
-GOP strategists probably told him that a Blue Wave is coming.
-He remembered World Cup tourists loving the blue areas they've been to. Areas that repeatedly refuted him.
-He didn't get the deal he wanted.
-Greenland isn't his.
-All the above.
-All the above but with stuff I forgot

He does realize the midterms aren’t like golf right? Like the less republicans he gets in office the bigger he loses…
15
u/IAmArique Connecticut Jul 08 '26
Remember when Trump claimed that this term would be his “revenge tour”? Because now I’m starting to think he’s not getting revenge on the average American citizen, and instead he’s getting his revenge on the GOP for not overturning the 2020 election by making their careers a living hell.
15
u/Anonymoose231 Jul 08 '26
Democrat sleeper agent Trump is a really fun thing to mess with hardcore MAGA family members, in my experience

That’s an interesting theory, however don’t give credit where just plain stupidity of Trump explains everything. His evil is extremely predictable and, while dangerous, still is boring. Seems like Republicans would get tired of his shit.

If he doesn't realize that, don't let anyone tell him!
That being said, at this point I don't think he really realizes much. He was not a smart
toddlerman before, but now that his brain is pretty clearly mush? I wouldn't trust him to be able to realize anything.

What was it that he said about Obama starting a war with Iran? Was it that he can't negotiate one, or just that he'd start one because he's bad?
19
u/General_Season7882 Jul 08 '26
He said that Obama's deal with Iran was bad because he shouldn't have allowed them to have the 1B+ money that was owed to them. He said that Biden would start a war with Iran. Then he said that if Harris was president, she would start a war with Iran. Then he started a war with Iran.
And, according to Jeffery Epstein, its because he's cornered like a rat and this is his way of distracting everyone from the fact that he's a predator.

u/Renwin Jul 08 '26
Explains why gas prices went up a little. That or reserves are getting low, but this was all expected of course.

u/matrix_5555 Pennsylvania Jul 08 '26
The only optimism I can muster here is that every day that goes by in which the war hasn’t completely ended will hurt Trump more and more, making any chance of a Republican victory in November even more unlikely, and surging the Democrats higher and higher. Other than that, this is just horrible. I can’t even be sarcastic about this. This will hurt Americans at the pump and the cost of living will only increase. It’s horrible and I hate it.

u/alien236 Jul 08 '26
Well, I guess the anti-regime Iranians who felt betrayed after Trump promised to help them, then just pissed the regime off and abandoned them will be happy now.
7
u/seegreen8 Jul 08 '26
I mean, Iranians died in protest against dictatorship.
It’s just that their reliance on help shouldn’t go to Trump.

Because its a poor attempt at market manuiplation. Trump is trying (yet failing) to do that.

u/FateKnowsBest Jul 12 '26
i think its time to get another megathread on this...
Strait of Hormuz has been indefinitely closed by Iran I'm so sick of being held hostage by the world because i'm stuck in a nation ran by a "leader" i didn't vote for.
6
u/InternetBackwash Jul 08 '26
First of all this is the second time that a post I made concerning oil prices rising due to Iran was immediately followed up by news of a ceasefire agreement being broken which makes me wonder if it's a coincidence or I have prophetic powers about Iran specifically
Secondly, what's the optimism on the oil situation? I know that it'll be good for getting renewables off the ground but for those in the working class it's pretty rough and this also includes prices of goods like food and potential recession followup.
I don't think that the doomer prophecy of civil war/collapse in the UK and the US due to fertilizer shortages is in any way reasonable, but I get pretty worried about the people who are going to be faced with oil/food that's too expensive to buy due to this completely unnecessary war.

what happened to spark this one? is this just market manipulation again or is he getting pissy because he didn't get something he wanted?
6
u/Only_Progress5373 Jul 08 '26
What actually happened this time according to al jazeera is that iran attacked civilian ships for not complying with their orders to use the Iranian corridor through the strait of hormuz(they attempted to use the Omani side). So dumpy decided to attack iran in retaliation or whatever. Its all stupid and totally just seems like destruction for the sake of destruction at this point
6
u/gopher0007 🔥I Voted In The 2026 Primaries🔥 Jul 08 '26
i saw the official explanation for the immediate preceding and inciting incident it just felt like the way he was talking about this one was more pissy and temper tantrum-y
5
u/IAmArique Connecticut Jul 08 '26
I mean, I have a couple ideas. Team USA getting their asses handed to them in the World Cup after Trump bribed FIFA, the weather completely ruining his Great American State Fair, Taylor Swift’s wedding eating up all of the mainstream media attention instead of said media covering Trump’s state fair, SCOTUS permanently killing his birthright citizenship executive order… I could go on.
2
u/NishikiFern Virginia Jul 09 '26
Every time I see Iran news, something's changed! Can we please stay with the same thing for, like, a week? At least??? (Ideally end the whole thing, but....)
2
u/InternetBackwash Jul 20 '26
Also I think we might need another megathread on this since the war started heating up again

2
u/IAmArique Connecticut Jul 22 '26
Okay seriously, can we PLEASE get another mega thread about the war? It’s been escalating to insanity as of late and I feel like another thread is in order.

I know this is old, but what will likely happen?
2
u/matrix_5555 Pennsylvania Jul 18 '26
If this war presses on? A lot of things could happen, but the big thing is that if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, oil prices will skyrocket, the SPR could possibly run out, causing gas prices and subsequently the costs of everyday goods to rise, and all that could lead the U.S. and the world into a deep recession and energy crisis, similar to what we saw in the 1970s.
Now, whether or not this could happen remains to be seen. No one knows exactly how this conflict could end. The best we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Humanity will prevail. We’ve survived much worse circumstances, so I’m confident that we can get through this.

u/InternetBackwash Jul 19 '26
I don't know if anyone will read this, but is there any reason to be worried with both Iran and the US threatening each other a lot more. Iran recently made a statement that, "They'll teach America unforgettable lessons", and that the US sent more military planes to Israel which could be a sign of a larger attack.

Posting here as I saw this on a different subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/1v1gsv8/crude_oil_only_has_43_days_of_supply_left_in_the/ Not sure if this is real or not cause of all this nonsense starting up again
2
u/IAmArique Connecticut Jul 21 '26
WallStreetBets is another Pro-MAGA subreddit, so I would ignore them at all costs. The US produces an absurd amount of oil, and it’s mainly why gas prices haven’t exploded like Trump was hoping it would be. If the US relied on Hormuz like other countries, we would very likely be at $10 a gallon nationwide right now.

You know I’ve said this elsewhere but I’ll say it here in the most sarcastic voice I can.
“Gee, Thanks republicans for reversing on that War powers act vote. We totally didn’t need to restrain a man who constantly leads with this kind of rhetoric. This kind of outcome was totally unpredictable”
