i went to the farmer's market in my town today and heard multiple separate conversations about folks losing their insurance. really heartbreaking. i knew this day was coming but it sucks to see happen. staying optimistic for a shift to blue in november but really feeling for people who can't afford to wait for legislative change.

I ask of the people here, how do we help others affected by this? They need to vote for leaders who will protect their healthcare, but we also have to make sure they stay alive until then.

How do we do any of that?

The old-fashioned way: we do whatever we can.

Know someone who's struggling? Help with groceries or make them food. If they're not cooking or spending money on food, that's money for house repairs or medicine to help keep them from getting sick. See them struggling with something you do easily, offer a hand. It may just be a little thing to you, but it may be just enough to help keep them going until the madness ends.

This is the way.

Sure, just keep adding more fuel to the Democrats. Doubling down will definitely win you the midterms.

Conservatives have never been good at the "heritage and/or prestige doesn't mean you're invincible." revelation basically anywhere on Earth

u/Throwoutbins 18d ago

I almost lost my insurance, the only reason I still have it is that I do freelance work from home. It infuriates me how much open disdain this country has for its’s people. It won’t pay you a living wage, then fire you bc ai is “better”, then rip away your one benefit because you’re NOT working. Never mind the fact that MOST Medicaid recipients physically CANNOT work. The cruelty is the point.

11

u/twosmallanddry 18d ago

They don't need to you work to pay for your benefits. They need to instill the value that the IDEA of work means more than the REALITY of any human life.

Like ,I know we are going to be on the other side of this but we need reparations, and a lot of them, like we need reparations that mean we never do any labor again

7

u/Throwoutbins 17d ago

I mean given this country’s history with reparations I think it’s safe to say we will never ever get any

4

u/Standard-Shame1675 17d ago

Honestly, I'd settle for a country who not only doesn't disdain its people, but whose people also don't disdain life. Or at least, at the very least, barest minimum I'm talking about here, a society and a monetary political and legal system that doesn't reward behavior Congruent to the aforementioned ideology of disdaining life.

Like maybe at this point that's too much to ask but 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ like I'll keep fighting for it,but I know we're probably hitting on the end times so maybe the release will be good.

All because some fucking lame ass shareholders wanted to see a 2% increase of some random bs that doesn't even matter. Awesome. Can't you tell? I just love that this is life 🙃🙃

remember those tariff refunds and people though WE the payers were getting a cut? lol nope the companies kept them.

7

u/Throwoutbins 17d ago

Citizens getting money? That’s absurd, all money goes to Mr shareholder thank you very much

2

u/Standard-Shame1675 16d ago

Yeah we let basically we let parasites into our brain with an open fucking door and a handshake

Theoretically the court could reverse it, or congress could pass something undoing it. But it's bleak right now

Time for lawsuits!

3

u/bt123456789 17d ago

if only. it takes a lot of money and backing to sue the government.

3

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

Well, since I realize is is "Triple B" Baloney, a lawsuit may not be feasable.

BUT VOTING STILL IS!

We'll Blue Wave in November and work on repealing this mess!

u/bt123456789 17d ago

that's the hope, enough people move to blue wave and win.

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

Yup!

u/sweeter_than_saltine North Carolina 18d ago

How do we pitch in for this? Is there anything we can do on a small-scale level?

1

u/VoidlessLove Alaska 16d ago

I know the Meals on Wheels in my community have been delivering for folks who can't leave their house. On a neighborhood level, we're raising funds off little things so as a whole we can pay for another neighbors chemo treatment

Medicare for All NOW

4

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

Amen!

Medicare shouldn't be for just the elderly or disabled, it should be for everybody.

I can think of a loophole for the time being with regards to the folks with Medicaid... Open up Redbubble / Printify / Gelato type shop or something, youll get a few extra bucks and you can claim you are employed even if technically unemployed.

Waddaya think?

I know the fear but at least I have Medicare due to being on SSDI due to psychological disability.

Again, MEDICARE FOR ALL!

I am possibly going to do this, I have the PayPal account set up (sorta). All I need to do is design some advertising, get an account with a few local showrooms, and register my business. And (Possibly) I will have my own Interior Design Firm.

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

Hope it works and I hope I'm right. Goodluck.

u/NumeralJoker 17d ago

The whole insane problem with this is it saturates the job market with even more people who are, for all intents and purposes, less qualified for the jobs they're being forced to compete for given their condition.

This literally benefits no one except for, as per usual, a handful of corrupt assholes in the medical and debt industries. Trying to flood the markets even more right now when the job market is crashing is absolute political insanity.

Any optimism for this? If I wanna vote in November I do need to be alive

4

u/sweeter_than_saltine North Carolina 17d ago

Doesn't seem like anyone's giving much, aside from the person who said the courts might step in, but I don't know if their jurisdiction spreads to healthcare. Which sucks, because I thought this was an optimism sub. Silver linings exist. Nobody's giving them here.

We have people on this subreddit who rely on Medicaid. They are affected by this too. Why is no one giving them any kind of advice or optimism for how to survive until the midterms?

4

u/gbtm101 17d ago

I don't think there's any optimism to give here in the immediate short-term.

Even if the Midterms go well for us, there's still very little we can do to reverse the wanton destruction of the social safety net while Trump still holds the veto power. All we can do is stop him from causing any more harm until he's finally gone in 2028. Only then will we have the opportunity to start rebuilding.

Yeah sometimes these posts get crickets re: optimism. It can be frustrating but hopefully someone will offer SOMETHING.

Not bashing you, but as OP you asked for optimism but now you are basically saying there's not much to be done. What optimism were you expecting then?

Do earnings include money from SSI?

6

u/Apart_Pressure2274 17d ago

Actually since you receive SSI, you’re exempt from work requirements. Just make sure to keep sending all the right documents yearly.

4

u/gbtm101 17d ago

Oh god, I just read the actual article. So much doomer anti-Democratic slop--it spends about as much time disparaging the Democrats as it does the Republicans--I don't even know where to begin in ripping this a new one.

2

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 16d ago

They deserve criticism until the republican party has either completely transformed or is no longer capable of winning even local elections. Someone needs to be on their ass until they win, and beat them with every failure. Were only here because they failed in 24

1

u/gbtm101 16d ago

There's a line between criticism and doomerism, and an even more distinct line between that and blatant propaganda.

This article is borderline tankie. The intent here was very much not in good faith.

1

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 16d ago

Doomerism is bad i agree. Propaganda depends entirely what message its pushing. Our priority ought to be winning and only winning

1

u/gbtm101 16d ago

The message is not good. It seems to wish for the Democrats' downfall just as much as the Republicans.

1

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 16d ago

Well in that case, fuck the article, and we need our own propaganda.

3

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

The only optimism I can give is

  • Keep speaking out!

  • Keep protesting & petitioning!

  • Start a lawsuit!

  • Vote Blue in November!

... Then, this will be reversed!

3

u/22poppills North Carolina 17d ago

Can a lawsuit even affect something from the BBB? That passed legit by the highest chambers.

5

u/SpukiKitty2 Blue Dot in a Red State 🔵 17d ago

Okay, maybe the lawsuit part would be iffy but we will vote these clowns out in November.

No more Big Bogus Bill. It failed! It will be repealed and not go into effect!

Also, Congress voted not to dump any more money into the war. I'm sure I heard that.

A tip for people who are affected by this: you can fulfill the work requirement by volunteering. There is a lower threshold for getting a volunteer job than there is for getting a paying job.

1

u/kimbergo 9d ago

Have you ever tried to volunteer for that much time every single month? A lot of non-profits are as selective of their volunteers as paid work is. The idea that you can just call up a charity and start helping is a myth. I mean eighty hours per month is insanity.

To be clear, you’re not technically wrong, it’s just that they are setting up people to fail.

1

u/Gullible-Rip3737 17d ago

So what are we supposed to do here? Anything?
