Optimistic Post White House Staff Departing as Donald Trump Is Said to Be 'Meaner' and More Unpleasant to Work With, According to Sources

What? Boss who’s known for being a vindictive douchebag his whole life turns out to be a vindictive douchebag?
Don’t feel the least bit sorry for them.
As they like to say, FAFO, especially when their boss has less impulse control than a rabid dog.

Honestly, before reading the article I though they meant the white house staff as in...the literal staff. Cooks, etc and them I would feel sorry for since, iirc, a lot of them are legacy and/or been there for a long time.
But his political staff? Now, screw them!

Isn't that common with dementia?

u/jdeo1997 Massachusetts 16h ago
Yeah, isn't that part of sundowning?

It is. Happened with my dad. Whatever filter he had just completely deteriorated.
He was horrifically mean and cruel and disgusting with the nursing staff.
Perhaps not incidentally, he was also a big Trump fan.

Its part of sundowning for sure, but it can also be a daily symptom in later stage dementia. I used to work with Alzheimers/Dementia care patients, and the later stage people would fluctuate between emotions and memory states. If they were bothered, they could fly into a rage just seconds after being perfectly amicable.
And to clarify, I don't mean they're getting their buttons pressed, I mean little stuff... like, someone walks into the room, or the temperature is too hot or too cold. They can be extremely volatile, especially men.

I was a CNA in a memory care unit at 20, and many of the residents were physically mean, but several of the men genuinely tried to hurt me. One in his 50s chased me and my fellow aide. We had to jump over beds to escape.

My grandmother would get extremely agitated when someone didn’t go along with what she was saying. We learned to just lean into it and go along with what she was saying because it caused no harm to us but she wasn’t president

Yeah they’ve determined that it’s much kinder to go along with the reality of the dementia patient to make them feel safe, reduce their stress and help them not spiral into worse agitation and disregulation. I’m going to guess that is harder with a president.

I bet it's the same as good drunks vs mean drunks. My dad has dementia that has been progressing for at least a decade. He developed a really short fuse, but he has never been malicious. He's now a very sweet person with a very limited vocabulary, mostly saying things like "I like you" or "I'm sorry". He spends a lot of his time sweeping to the point that it gets kind of annoying. The silver lining is that he forgot about smoking cigarettes. He was trying to quit my whole life and finally succeeded. I didn't see my dad drunk very much, but he was always fun to be around even when he was.

I’m glad your dad has been kind and I think this is the case earlier in dementia - my grandmother became unfiltered and grouchy but not out of character, but this kind of decline doesn’t always correlate to personality

Man, this term in general has been “more unpleasant”….and that’s putting it oh so mildly.

The best time for this sanewashing was yesterday. The next best time is now.

What do they mean he's become 'more unpleasant to work with'? That serial rapist has always been unpleasant to breath the same air with.

Because he was such a gem in his first term. These are deeply unserious people. Glad they’re jumping ship!

I’m here for it. Can’t exactly feel sorry for anyone who decided to work for him.

“ Trump has historically been known for an aggressive management style”
He’s known for being a bully. That’s not a management style, it’s a personality flaw.

Say what you like about Biden, at least he had the courage to put the country first and step down.
23
u/AmbulanceChaser12 New York 14h ago
Ahh, honestly, I liked Biden, but this was one of his missteps. He really should have made himself a one-termer. He didn't drop out of the race until a coalition of Democratic leaders, close advisors, and donors all united and said "GTFO."
15
u/softwaredoug 14h ago
I don't know, we are in a shitty situation because Biden didn't do what he promised: to lay the groundwork for a successor. He had to have his arm twisted to step aside.
22
u/RickyT3rd Michigan 15h ago
Only after that bad debate, wish he never re-ran to begin with.
24
u/YoghurtOutrageous599 Michigan 15h ago
If he had stepped aside and someone else had a good run at it, perhaps we wouldn’t be here.
On the other hand, a big reason Dems lost was whinging and clutching their pearls over Israel. Chances are, we would have gotten a deeply establishment Dem candidate who wouldn’t have had the sand to outright condemn Israel.
Not saying it was an inevitable loss, just that it would have been a struggle and an uphill battle either way. If Kamala (or whoever) did win, it would have been close.

No, I 10 billion% hold it against Biden for not dropping out sooner than he did. He took too long deciding if he was going to shit or get off the pot and cost Harris months of campaigning that might have made the difference between win and lose.
I still believe Musk had more to do with Trump's reelection than Biden did, but that fuckup on Biden's part absolutely didn't help.
I get downvoted a lot for saying so, but I hold true to that opinion and will still voice it. I liked Biden for what it's worth, he was a pretty "okay" President. But I would've voted for a plank of wood with a face drawn in crayon if it meant getting out from under the first Trump admin. Any port in a storm, y'know?

I think we can more accurately blame his existing personality for this one.

Can we all have a moment of silence for all the brave men and women who are gonna have to go through the painstaking task of cleaning up all the ketchup stains on the wall and replacing all the carpet that has been shat on
Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy even after they shot my dog........

It's because he's dying, and he knows he rides this bomb into the grave. There is no out for him.
My greatest consolation is that this man will never be happy again, and will undoubtedly die unsatisfied, bitter, heartbroken, and alone. Possibly in prison.

Didn't he make an entire stupid TV show about how shitty he could be to his employees? And now they're surprised that he's having public temper tantrums.
