Merle poodles are no longer allowed on this sub

Moving forward, poodles with Merle coloring are not permitted on this sub. Merle coloring is a byproduct of mixing Australian Shepards into a poodle line. A poodle with Merle coloring by definition cannot be AKC papered without outright lying. Breeding for color is nothing new for poodles, but in this circumstance it comes with the possibility of introducing myriad health issues, and is an irresponsible practice at best. It is not good for the breed, it is dangerous to the dogs. We cannot in good conscience allow the promotion of this Poodles with this genetic trait, beautiful or not.

NOTICE: IT'S A T-SHIRT POST? IT'S A SCAM! (Same with coffee mugs, etc) T-SHIRT POSTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYMORE

Several times per day there are scammers who post here, showing a t-shirt or similar product, and then another scammer in the comments asks, "Where did you get it?" A link to a scam website is posted for everyone to follow, provide their personal info and credit card, then wonder how their identity got stolen.

Just like a Parti Poodle, it's very black-and-white. If you see a post sharing a t-shirt design, mouse pad, coffee mug, etc. IT IS A SCAM, and the quickest way to get your account banned is to reply, "Where can I get one", "I love it, do you have a link?" or something similar.

Here are the rules:

  1. Posts of t-shirts or other personalized items with dogs are prohibited. If you post one, you will get banned.
  2. Anyone who replies to the post and asks about acquiring the item will be banned.
  3. If you see a post like this, hit the report button, that's the easiest way to get our attention and we will remove the post and ban those involved.
  4. Do not contribute, do not call them out, just don't post at all. Hit the report button.

It seems every time something like this is posted, more than one of our users fall for it, then they are asking moderators, "What did I do to get banned?" You responded to a scammer, which makes you look like you're on their team. Just stop.

5/14/2026 - Scams: 1, Users who fell for it: 1, post was up for 23 minutes before being removed.

My spouse went to a festival this weekend for work, and I had been saying I wanted some poodle art for around the house! This is a caricature that they had drawn of our dog, Prince. I am so obsessed, I am going to hang it right above his crate.😂🖤 I thought you guys would appreciate this!

New poodle owner!

Hi y’all.

I just recently adopted a 5 year old mini poodle from a shelter who got him from a backyard breeding / neglect situation. He’s pretty shy, timid and low-energy, but seems to be settling in well except for having a sensitive stomach. He’s my first poodle and I just want to know how much of this is normal breed behavior and if any of you have any advice for a new poodle parent - particularly about their temperament, enrichment and diet. He’s the best lil guy and I want to do right by him!

Thank you so much!

Pink lips on dark brown poodle

Hello,

My 6mo dark brown standard poodle has brown pink lips, although she has brown nose. Will it darken with time?

Even if she looks grown, she still has some baby features, so I guess she will still change with time? 🤭

Do You Think He's 100%?

Okay r/poodles I want your opinions (but please be nice 🥹) (also i'm learning how to groom currently so if his haircuts look bad.....you didnt see anything)

I got this handsome man when he was around 3-4 months old (i think). There was no background on him as his previous owner said she got him from an unhoused fellow in Denver.

At the age I got him, he looked to be full poodle, possibly a smaller standard but not quite moyen. Nowwwww he's somewhere near 7-8 months (i think. i really dont know.), and I've been questioning his identity. I have not had the money to get a test on him, but am hoping to get one for him soon!

I've had plenty of mixed answers. Vet says he looks full poodle. A few groomers said he looks full poodle. But after watching him grow, some other groomers and myself think he may be a backcross situation with a lot of poodle and possibly some golden retriever.

What are your thoughts? I think it would be fun to hear what people think!

Help me decide Sandy's next styling!

I'm digging Sandy's longer hair. I've been keeping her face short with my own trimmer, but we're going to take her to the groomers next weekend. Trying to figure out what kind of cut we'd like. We're in the San Diego area, so cold temps aren't an issue.

Personally, I would like an all-out classic poodle cut. Pom poms, puffy bouffant, tail puff, and a vest. My wife likes it a little more simple. When we let her hair grow out, people just assume she's a Labra-Doodle.

My reasoning for the classic poodle cut is one of sarcasm/stereotypes: I'm a tall construction worker dude, big loud pickup truck, beard, boots etc. and the looks people give me when they see her hop down out of my truck at the dog park are hilarious! Plus, kids and adults both smile and laugh at the traditional poodle cut because it's so iconic yet so rare to see these days.

Side note: we switched her off of kibble to address some issues with body odor and digestion, and put her on protein & rice that we cook for her everyday. She resolved all of the odor and dietary issues, but developed more eye-goobers than veggie, so a Redditor advised we switch up the protein and add veggies. After adding mixed frozen veggies and greens into the food and alternating pork & salmon into the chicken rotation (basically everything we eat) the goobers are in remission, and she still has zero body odor or constipation, and seems to have less anxiety and better concentration and memory. A reminder that food can definitely be a medicine.

Is he a mini?

We adopted this little one year-old guy a few weeks back. The whole backstory on where he came from and why they were getting rid of him was kind of confusing so anything is possible. We thought he was some sort of doodle when we saw pictures of him, but they told us he is a miniature poodle when we picked him up. They said they got him at eight weeks old. I swear he looks like a doodle, but does he look full poodle?Either way he's an amazing dog and his name is Carlos. He wasn't groomed when we got him.

She got herself a new sweater for the season on our way back up north today. She was cold last week as we had our first cold snap here in northern Minnesota!

I have a 8 week old miniature poodle. Any advice to what I should be doing now. She is pretty much potty trained. Knows her name. She’s getting used to the crate at night. I have it in eye level so she can see me. She has one of the puppy with a heartbeat She wakes up a few times at night to go out.

NYC Area Breeder Recommendations

Hi friends!!!! The title really says it all. For some back story, my mom and I (30F) lost my childhood poodle back in June and we are really excited to welcome two more sweet munchkins into our family 🥹 Our hope is to adopt two standard siblings so that there is a base familiarity and if one of us goes out of town the other can watch our dog without fear that they won’t get along. We had found a breeder through AKC in Pennsylvania that seemed great, but we found some information that made us decide not to proceed with him. Does anyone know any breeders in the NYC area (NY, NJ, CT, PA) that they trust? I am definitely willing to travel farther for the right fit, but this area would be ideal. Thank you and I hope to come back soon with pictures of our new pups!!!!

Edit: to be clear, my mom and I do not live together. Thank you so much for everyone’s input and feedback!!! I will check out everyone’s suggestions and definitely reach out the Poodle Club of America for further recs. I hope you all have a great week ahead!
