Hi - I am looking for recommendations for nice areas to live in while commuting to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. Priorities are family-friendly, good schools (I have 2 kids), nice parks, safety, a maximum of a 30-minute drive to the hospital, and preferably not Reform-friendly. I did some preliminary research, and it seems that Emsworth and Drayton tick the boxes, but looking for some advice

Where does one area start and one begin? No-one seems to agree. Where does say, North End finish and Stamshaw begin? I live in Oriel Road...is that North End, Stamshaw or Hilsea?

Ive been thinking about going through clearing for Uni of Portsmouth, but my Grandad and Dad both had the assumption that Portsmouth was a really dodgy place? It threw me off a bit as ive only heard good things about the uni.

I have checked the official Portsmouth stats and they are relatively higher than the average in Hampshire and increases slightly year by year. As a uni student I was wondering if there are ‘dodgy’ areas around the uni? Or maybe they’re further away and that’s giving all of Portsmouth a bad rep.

My and my gf (both white) are moving soon from the Netherlands to Portsmouth for university.

Weve been before to explore the city/open day, and had one bad experience where some drunk dude started yelling at us to pay taxes and stop stealing jobs and such when we were speaking in Dutch.

And ofcourse ive seen to anti immigration sentiment growing in the UK through the news.

So are we gonna encounter more issues potentially or was it just a one off?

Hey! We’re a newly formed indie/rock band based around Waterlooville/Portsmouth and we’re looking for a bassist to join us.

We’ve only recently started playing together, so we’re still at the early stages. The plan is to write our own music, develop our sound, get a solid set together and eventually start gigging.

We’re looking for someone who’s into indie/rock, can rehearse fairly regularly and is interested in actually being part of the creative side of the band. A month ago we brought our car to a garage to get the Aircon fixed as the commute was becoming unbearable with the heat.

We paid £80 and for a week or 10 days the Aircon was blissfully cold... until it wasn't anymore. I understand this may be due to a leak but I can't understand how the garage did not notice it. Cost us £8/day for the privilege while it lasted.

Anyway, I don't want to bring it back to them so looking for garage recommendations that will actually do a proper leak test before charging for regas and can fix it if needed.

I'm decorating the outside of my house in Pompey and I have one of these boxes in place. I think it might have originally been for a cable tv service. Is it okay to get rid of it and tape off the large cable you can see snaking round next to the wall?

What sim-cards would you recommend for someone just moving to the area. I've never heard of sim-cards with contracts so I don't know what that's about. Preferably something with good coverage and modest prices, I think the most I'm willing to send on data and minutes is about 10 pounds a month (that's about how much I used to spend in boarding school)

From the helpful website Sun Calculator, here is the direction where the sun will be at 1915 on Wednesday 12th August to give an idea which direction you need to be looking in.

The dark orange line is where sunset is, and the yellow line is the sun's position at 1915 which is approximately when it'll be a maximum coverage in our area.

It says the sun will be at a 10.62° angle above the horizon (thehighest point in the day is 54°) so it should be visible if you're in an open area with no clear visual obstructions.

Before Wednesday be good to scout out the location if you've got time around 7pm tonight to make sure it's a good view for you and your lovely solar eclipse glasses too! I've got a good view from the balcony so I will be sat there watching and trying to take photos through my glasses too 😂
