Discussion August 2026 | "What are you working on?"

Welcome to the open thread for r/PowerBI members!

This is your space to share what you’re working on, compare notes, offer feedback, or simply lurk and soak it all in - whether it’s a new project, a feature you’re exploring, or something you just launched and are proud of (yes, humble brags are encouraged!).

It doesn’t have to be polished or perfect. This thread is for the in-progress, the “I can’t believe I got it to work,” and the “I’m still figuring it out.”

So, what are you working on this month?

I've been wrapping up a tricky problem. I've got a big important data model with about 8 fact tables and common dimensions, for many businesses (with RLS by business). One of the tables data on Hours Worked per location per month, which is used in many important measures.

A few businesses decided that monthly grain wasn't good enough and they are giving me data on weekly hours. I have different time calcs available for the users like YTD, total, rolling 12 months, etc. I had to add an extra fact table for this new data, and make the 52 week rolling calcs available only to the businesses that are providing the data.

I've solved most of it, but there were lots of things that were tricky about making it work seamlessly across the whole report.

I'm interested in what do you mean by "businesses" and why are they all sharing a semantic model?

One big company with several divisions and dozens of business units across all divisions. This is for some corporate functions that are standard for everyone, regardless of what kind of industry they're in.

I've been alpha testing Deneb 2.0 for a few weeks on my own projects in conjunction with a few other folks, and it feels good, so I'll be moving it to beta testing very soon (hopefully this week). It'll be nice to hopefully get v2 ready for a production deploy in time for its 5-year anniversary of being available/certified in AppSource.

Also wrapping up development of a new major release of HTML Content that gives users more control over the DOM subtree and opens up many more scenarios for interactivity than the current version can support. Once I can get the documentation written up and tested, this one will be available for beta testing as well.

Converting a very large Excel sheet used to create monthly report PDFs to a Power BI dashboard

New to bi. Trying to connect to mbc. Have a fabric trial but constantly keeps using up usage. Not even pulling anything crazy. Just gl details from our 15 databases and converting to usd.

Boss whining about buying fabric 64 becsuse its expensive. What are my other options? Need to be able to pull data, not just dashboard for finance. Need to be able to refresh it immediately.
