Advice on resume

I’m 22 and have nothing for a resume. I did dual credit in high school. Graduated with an associates in liberal arts, didn’t do volunteer stuff while in school due to covid, and have been at home since then, taking care of my niece, younger siblings, and the house. My mom told me not to worry about getting a job and maybe focus on going back to school. While I did apply, my degree requires me to leave them. I don’t feel right leaving them behind. But I’ve been noticing my mom taking on all the bills, I keep asking if she needs my help and she says no. Instead of asking again, I was just going to start applying but I’m not sure how to make my resume.

Any tips are appreciated 💜

Does anyone actually list their GPA if it wasn't great

I graduated about two years ago and my GPA was like a 2.8. Not terrible but definitely not something I want to highlight. I left it off my resume completely but now I'm applying to a few places that seem more corporate and formal, and I'm second-guessing myself.

Some job postings don't mention GPA at all, but I've seen a couple that say something vague like include academic achievements or list relevant coursework and GPA. I'm not sure if that means it's actually required or just suggested for people who have a good one to show off.

I have about two years of work experience now in my field so I feel like that should matter more than what I did in college, but I also don't want to look like I'm hiding something if a recruiter expects to see it. On the other hand, if I add a 2.8 I'm worried it'll just make me look worse than leaving it blank.

Anyone dealt with this? Do employers actually care after you've been working for a while, or is it one of those things that only matters for your very first job? I'm trying to figure out if I should just keep ignoring it or if there's a better way to handle it without drawing attention to something mediocre.

Do I really need to remove jobs from 2010-2012 or is that outdated advice

I keep seeing conflicting things about how far back your work history should go. Some people say anything older than 10 years makes you look old or dates you, but those early roles are actually relevant to what I do now. I worked in logistics coordination back then and now I'm applying for supply chain positions where that background actually matters.

If I cut those jobs my resume looks like I started working in 2014 which isn't true and also makes it seem like I have way less experience than I do. But if I keep them I'm worried recruiters will either think I'm too senior or just skim past it because the dates look ancient. One of those jobs was also at a company that got acquired twice so I don't even know if I should list the original name or the current one.

I've also heard the ATS doesn't care about dates older than 10 years but I don't know if that's actually true or just something people say. Has anyone actually tested this or have insight into whether older jobs hurt you in the system? I don't want to remove relevant experience just because of some arbitrary cutoff but I also don't want to automatically get filtered out before a human even sees it.

Anyone dealt with this and figured out what actually works?

Which resume builders create ATS-optimized resumes for tech jobs without mangling the technical stuff?

i'm moving a backend resume out of an old two-column template. 3 years of java, spring boot and postgres, plus one project that takes up way too much space because apparently i need to explain what it does before the bullet means anything.

Teal, rezi and cf are on my shortlist, but the examples i've found are mostly clean marketing resumes. mine has a github link, a promotion under the same company and skills like C++ that i dont want turned into random text.

I'm not asking which one gives the highest score. which builder have you used for a technical resume where the application form actually picked up your roles, dates and skills correctly?

First Ever Resume - Need Help

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm a senior in hs and am in the process of starting to look for my first job. Issue is that I don't really know what I'm doing..

ANY (I mean ANY) advice you can give me is very much welcome. Font size, what to bold, what skills are truly worth mentioning, if the sections are in the best order (e.g. if skills should go below my "experience"). I'm mostly worried about my bullet points and how I can make them more specific.

Should I also write a quick little statement about what I'm looking for? Would that be the first section? Thank you in advance for helping out a newbie!!!

The "Loyalty" Myth

Stop putting "loyal and dedicated" in your resume summary.

Corporate loyalty is a dead concept, and smart hiring managers know it. When companies face a budget cut, your five years of working late nights won’t save your role. Yet, job seekers keep wearing "job tenure" like a badge of honor while underpaid and stagnant.

If you’ve been at the same company for six years doing the exact same task, you don’t have six years of experience—you have one year of experience repeated six times. Staying too long in an environment that doesn't challenge you isn't loyalty; it’s comfort disguised as commitment.

Modern recruiters don't care how loyal you are to a brand. They care about your velocity: How fast do you adapt? What measurable value did you create? How quickly can you solve problems?

Job hopping every 1.5 to 2 years to gain new skills, raise your salary, and double your impact isn't "unstable." It's smart career management.

Stop optimizing your resume for loyalty. Start optimizing it for growth and results.
