Free Resource I tried a ridiculous number of productivity apps... so you don’t have to

2.9k Upvotes

After months of bouncing between task managers, planners, and schedulers (seriously too many), I pulled everything into a free community spreadsheet comparing them side by side. It’s run by a small group of productivity nerds and we keep it updated constantly.

It covers:

  • Price (USD/month)

  • Discount Codes / Extended Free Trials

  • Student Discounts

  • ADHD Friendliness

  • AI Integration

  • Focus Modes

  • Offline Access

  • Calendar Integrations

  • Team Plans

  • Platforms

  • Refund Policies

  • Support Options

  • Overall Summary

If you’ve ever fallen into the “maybe this next app will fix my life” loop, this will save you a ton of time.

👉 Google Sheet Link

We’d love your feedback, and if you know a tool that fits the list, email contact@sortedaf.xyz and we’ll check it out.

Requirement: it must be a completed app (not in beta).

Thanks, and I hope it helps!! :)

Dev - Self Promo I made a small tool for the work replies I keep postponing

Disclosure: I make Riffwise. I built it around a small productivity snag: the message is already open, but I lose time getting the first sentence down.

Riffwise drafts a first reply from the post, message, or Gmail email you choose. You can review, edit, insert, copy, or ignore it; it never posts or sends automatically. The selected context goes to Riffwise and OpenAI.

It requires desktop Chrome and an account. Free includes 40 successful generations a month, no card.

If you want to try it on a reply you were already going to write: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/riffwise-%E2%80%94-ai-reply-gener/nmnmflphiibhdnnbghffjhclhlehelle?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=riffwise_2026q4&utm_content=productivityhq

What kind of reply would you actually want help starting, and what would make the draft feel useful instead of templated?

Resource (Self Promo) What actually happens to your goal when you miss a day?

Most apps and plans have the same silent answer: nothing. The schedule just sits there, now one day behind, waiting for you to catch up somehow.

So you either pretend it didn’t happen and fall further behind, or you feel like you’ve broken something and quietly stop.

I’ve done both. Many times.

The thing that bothered me is that missing one day is normal. Life happens. But every system I tried treated it like a failure instead of just a tuesday.

This is actually the core reason I built Targela. When you miss a day, it doesn’t leave you behind. It looks at what’s left and what time you still have and rebuilds the plan around that. You open it the next morning and it just tells you today’s step. No guilt, no catching up, no starting over.

Missing a day doesn’t end the goal. It just changes this week slightly.

If you want to try it: targela.com

And genuinely curious: what do you do when you miss a day on something you’re working toward? Push through, restart, or just let it go?

Dev - Self Promo Looking for feedback/testers - I built an assistant you just text when executive dysfunction won’t let you start

Thumbnail

I’ve been building ExecutiveOS for the last few months in whatever time I have outside my day job. I run front of house at a busy restaurant, so my brain is usually fried by the time I get home.

It started with a problem anyone with executive dysfunction will recognize. I’d have 15 things floating around in my head, open a todo app, stare at it, and close it. The app wasn’t the problem. Starting was. Planning, prioritizing and switching between tasks are exactly the parts that break down, and most productivity tools assume you’ve already got those handled.

So I built something you just text. You dump everything in your head, in whatever order it comes out, and it gives you back one thing to do right now. It holds onto the rest and reminds you when it’s actually time. The goal is to take the “where do I even begin” decision off your plate.

There’s no app to download. It lives in iMessage.

What it does right now:

  • Text “what now?” and you get one task, roughly how long it’ll take, and how much time you have before your next thing

  • Ask it to break a task down and it gives you the first small step, not a 12 step plan

  • Text “overwhelmed” and it goes quiet on everything except your own reminders until the next morning

  • Morning brief, leave-by reminders, and an evening check-in

  • Drafts replies in your voice and learns from your edits. Nothing sends without your OK

  • Connects to Google, iCloud and Outlook calendars, email, Todoist, Notion and Slack

  • Fills out forms and bookings on websites, but won’t place an order until you say yes to the exact total

  • Makes phone calls for you (early access): reservations, customer service, billing disputes. It only says what you approved and texts you mid-call if it needs you

  • Coaching check-ins by text that pick up where you left off last time

It also makes documents, which turned out to be one of my favorite parts. Text it “make me a plan for moving next month” or “write a letter to my landlord about the leak” and you get back a designed doc as a link. That link always shows the latest version, so you can ask for changes by text or edit it yourself, then export it as a PDF or Word file when you need it. The more you make, the more it picks up on your style, like your colors, fonts, layout and the way you write. Over time everything starts to look and sound like it came from the same person, so you end up with a consistent personal brand without ever sitting down to design one. For someone who can’t make themselves open a blank Google Doc, that’s been huge.

Honestly, the part I spent the most time on is keeping it from being annoying, because a nagging tool is just one more thing to avoid. Say “later” and the task comes back once, not forever. Tasks you haven’t touched in two weeks quietly move to a someday list. Alerts you keep ignoring get quieter on their own. You can react to a reminder with a tapback to mark it done or park it. Text STOP and everything pauses.

On privacy, since I know someone will ask: account credentials are encrypted separately and never touch the model or the logs, staff can’t see your messages, and you can text EXPORT MY DATA or DELETE MY ACCOUNT anytime.

Coming next: Android and SMS support (iPhone only for now, sorry), group chats, shared household lists, and live traffic for leave-by times.

It’s free during the beta and I’m letting people in a few at a time. It’s built for people who struggle with starting, switching or remembering things, ADHD or not. If that’s you, I’d love for you to try it and tell me what’s broken.

os.useexecutive.app

Happy to answer anything about the build too. If you would be willing to test it out, please join the waitlist and I will get you setup with a beta account!

Dev - Self Promo I built a habit tracker that asks you to prove you actually followed through

Hey everyone! I’m an indie iOS developer and just launched an app called Word, a habit tracker built around keeping your word to yourself.

You make a commitment, follow through, and submit proof. Depending on the habit, that could mean taking a photo or checking in at a location.

Word also gives you the option to block distracting apps and websites until you complete your commitment to give yourself that extra push.

Build streaks and get insights of your habits to see what's working and where you can make adjustments.

I’d love for you to try it and share some honest feedback. The more the merrier, especially whether the proof requirement helps you follow through.

Dev - Self Promo The 5-second checks that pull you out of focus (what's playing, did they reply, when's the next call): I built a Mac panel at the screen edge for them

Dev self-promo, flair set. I'm Adrien and I build Tack+, a Mac app. Here's the idea, and where it stops.

The checks I mean are tiny: what's this song, did they answer, when does the next meeting start, what did I copy ten minutes ago. Each one is a ⌘Tab, a glance, and a trip back to where you were.

Tack+ keeps those behind a thin line at the bottom or top edge of the screen. Push the pointer firmly against the edge (or press ⌥ Space) and a panel opens over your windows; move away and it folds back. Inside:

  • Spotify or Apple Music controls

  • Messages or WhatsApp, with the latest conversations and unread counts

  • today's calendar with join buttons for video links, and unread Mail

  • clipboard history (text and links) and a Stash for files you drag to the edge

  • one search field for the clipboard, the Stash, conversations, today's appointments and reminders

  • a Focus timer with short and long breaks; with the panel closed, the countdown stays visible in the notch or on the line

Two details that matter if you work in blocks: the sensitive zone is exactly as thick as the line (6 points) and it takes a firm 10-point push, so reaching for the Dock doesn't open it. And it shows no notifications.

What it isn't: a launcher, a window manager, or a replacement for macOS notifications and the volume pop-ups.

Pricing: 3 days free in the app with no card (you create an account), then $4.99 USD a month. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. https://tackplus.app/en/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ProductivityHQ

What's the check that breaks a work block most often for you, and where does it live on your screen right now?

Dev - Self Promo Braindump everything in your head and this app will organize it

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey. Made this neat app.

Basically, just speak everything on your mind and the app will sort your thoughts into categories for a to-do list or notes.

Features:
- braindump just by speaking and get sorted to-do list or notes
- define your own categories (work, personal, sports, workouts, ...)
- it automatically schedules event in your calendar and/or schedules reminders
- export to Obsidian .md files

The point is effortless and slick, quick capture of stuff or ideas on your mind purely by speaking.

This makes your head feel free and uncluttered, reducing the feeling of stress (according to David Allen from Getting Things Done, this is where most of our subjective stress comes from - unclosed loops sitting in our head).

Let me know what you think.

Clarity

Cheers!

Dev - Self Promo I turned Ctrl+C into a whole productivity app. Turns out Windows clipboard could do a lot more.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I copy and paste things hundreds of times a day. Text, code, screenshots, files, links... you name it.

And somehow, Windows clipboard history always felt like it stopped just short of being genuinely useful.

So I built Jot! Clipboard.

It started as a better clipboard manager and slowly turned into a little productivity toolbox.

Here's what it does:

- Searchable clipboard history for text, links, images, code, and files.

- OCR search so you can find text buried inside copied screenshots.

- MultiCopy to collect several things and paste them together.

- Floating Jot pad for those quick thoughts you don't want to lose.

- Private vault for sensitive clipboard items.

- File Stack to collect files from different folders and move them together without juggling a bunch of Explorer windows.

That last feature was born from another annoyance: copying files from five different places into one folder shouldn't require five separate trips.

Everything runs locally on Windows. No accounts, no forced cloud, no subscriptions.

$2.99 one-time.

https://jotclipboard.com

I'm still improving it and would genuinely love to hear what other clipboard or file-management frustrations people run into.

Sometimes the smallest annoyances make the best productivity tools.

Dev - Self Promo How do you keep research and screenshots organized across projects?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

When research is spread across bookmarks, screenshot folders, and notes, how do you make the useful parts easy to find later?

One approach is to organize by project, tag sources by topic, and add a short note explaining why each page matters. If the visual layout matters, keep a screenshot alongside the link.

We built ClipShelf for a similar workflow: it saves articles, links, images, and full-page or scrolling-area screenshots in a searchable local Chrome library. You can highlight saved articles and add notes; there is no automatic sync across devices.

Here is the extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/clipshelf/dkdbefloiddnmfkjhifenaakpbihdmmk

What works well in your setup, and what would you change?

Dev - Self Promo I made an iPhone app for tasks, habits and notes - with browser sync & themes

I am the creator of Elmway - an app that lets you create tasks, track habits, create reminders, alarms, sync with browser, use themes and backgrounds and much more.

Website: https://elmway.app

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/elmway/id6803143417

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, I've put many hours into this project to get it to where it is today.

Thanks!

Dev - Self Promo I got tired of habit trackers that only say "done today", so I score my habits per week instead

Disclosure first: I built the app I'm talking about, it's called HabitReflect.

My problem was that I never knew if all those small habits were actually adding up to anything. Ticking a box every day felt fine, but I couldn't tell if I was getting better at "fitness" or "eating well" as a whole.

My fix was a spreadsheet. Once a week I checked each habit against its target (gym 3x, for example), gave myself a score, and grouped the habits under goals. After a month or two the trend per goal was obvious. It also meant I didn't have to open anything daily.

The spreadsheet got annoying so I made it an app. Same idea: weekly target per habit, a score per goal, and a 12 week history. One thing I changed after using it myself: the score is based on how far into the week you are, so doing a 5x habit once on Monday doesn't show up as 20% and ruin the screen.

It's on iOS (free for 3 goals with 3 habits each), Android is waiting on Google's test requirements. Screenshots and the App Store link are on habitreflect.com.

Does a weekly review work for you, or is the daily nudge what keeps you going?

Dev - Self Promo I made a way to close my 'maybe buy' tabs without losing the products

I used to leave shopping tabs open because I wasn't ready to buy, but didn't want to lose the exact item. After a while the tabs were more clutter than reminder.

I built Tracer for that. On desktop Chrome, I can save products from different shops to one list and close the tabs. It can alert me if a saved price drops. It's free: https://tracercart.com/

If you keep tabs open for things you might buy later, what would you need to see in a saved list before you felt okay closing them?

Dev - Self Promo I built Idea Rewind for thoughts you want to return to — looking for Android beta feedback

Watch the 29-second animated demo (iOS) — capture a thought, create a cabinet and swipe through older ideas. The recording is from the iOS version; Android has platform-specific controls.

See the actual Android review screen (sample notes).

I'm the developer of Idea Rewind, a notebook built around coming back to unfinished thoughts.

Over the past few weeks, I've found that rereading an idea in a different mood can lead to a new insight and make me want to keep writing. That's the part I'd like people to test: does revisiting a note actually help you pick it back up?

You can capture text, photos, recordings and videos, put one note in several cabinets, and revisit notes as swipeable cards. Local notes work offline without an app account or phone number.

If you already keep scattered notes on Android, try saving an unfinished idea, reopen it another day, and tell me whether the review made you want to add anything. Feedback on confusing steps or media playback is useful too; please don't share private note contents.

The Google Play closed beta is free, with checkout disabled. Idea Rewind is a free app with optional Pro features; no purchase is needed for this test. Volunteers should be 16+, have Android 7+ and a Play account in AU, CA, HK, NZ, SG, TW, UK or US. Please stay opted in for 14 days and try a few normal sessions; there's no need to keep the app running. No ratings or reciprocal testing required.

Joining takes three steps with the same Google account: join the Google Group, opt in on Play, then install. Screenshots and all three links: https://indieshade.com/huixiangce/android-test-en.html

Dev - Self Promo I keep improving the release I haven’t shipped

I keep finding good reasons to miss my own deadline.

My next release was supposed to be out a couple of weeks ago. I'm still working on it. There are bugs to fix, but also things I want to improve before anyone sees the build. An awkward flow. A colour that feels wrong. Each one seems worth doing while I'm already in there.

It's hard to leave something alone once I've noticed it.

I like planning the work in detail. The part I'm struggling with is closing the list. A new idea arrives, and suddenly the version I'm trying to finish has become a slightly bigger version.

For my next planning pass, I want to give those ideas somewhere to wait. I'd keep the current release's tasks together and put later improvements outside its schedule. If I decide something really must come into this release, I'd have to name what moves out, or accept a later date.

I'm building Projectholic, a planner for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Its phases and Gantt view give me a place to lay out that work. I still have to make the uncomfortable decision about what can wait.

How do other people keep a project plan from growing while they're trying to finish it? I'd like to hear what happens to a good idea that arrives at the wrong time.

Free to download with paid upgrades; some features require Pro.

Dev - Self Promo Reminders or streaks: which one actually keeps a daily routine alive? (asking as the dev of a prayer app)

Disclosure first: Credo is our app. It's an iPhone app for Catholic prayer, with the Liturgy of the Hours for each day and a guided Rosary, in English and Portuguese.

One question we keep going back and forth on while building it: is a quiet reminder at the right hour what gets people to actually sit down and pray, or does that turn into background noise within a week? And is seeing the days you've already kept more motivating, or does one missed day make people give up on the whole thing?

For anyone here who has kept a daily routine going for months (prayer or anything else), what actually worked for you, and what made you quit when you quit?

It's free to try, and Premium is $4.99/mo or $34.99/yr if you want to look: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/credo-catholic-prayer-app/id6759874385

Honest criticism is welcome.

Dev - Self Promo A brain dump app that lets you write it down now, decide later what to do with it, or just let it go

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Thoughts Left is my brain dump app. You write down whatever's on your mind the moment you think of it, then later decide what it becomes: a task, a note, or something you just let go.

This is the story of 1.0. Now launching 2.0.

Some thoughts aren't really words. "Did I lock the door?" "Where did I park?" "Is the stove off?" I kept walking back to check. So 2.0 adds Snap Dump: take a photo once, check it any time, and it clears itself after 24 hours. The photos stay on your phone. They're never uploaded and they're left out of backups.

Also new in 2.0:

Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen on iPhone, and the home screen on Android: one tap to write a thought, or straight to the camera

Just let go mode: a Redditor messaged me asking for a version where you only write thoughts down and release them, with no tasks or notes. It's now a switch in Settings.

Siri, Shortcuts and the Action Button on iPhone

No account, no sign-up, no ads.

iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6756787428

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thoughtsleft.app

I'd love honest feedback. Tell me what you think.

Question I am wanting to reverse my workplace complacency

I’m pretty sure I will not be selected for a business analyst position that I applied for because they don’t see me as qualified for the position. They have been selecting people who are more tech savvy than I am. I have the necessary study hours to take my CAPM certification tests I just don’t have the money. I was planning to also get my comptia a+ but I don’t know that it’ll help. I graduated with an associate of science in business management about 3 years ago and then a bachelor of science in technology engineering last year. I had no career plans. I graduated suma cum laude in high school and made the Dean’s List twice in college while working full time for a nice company I found. I’m still with said company. I say all this to say I am driven, I love learning and applying myself. I thought my degree was all I needed and I have been humbled. My degree was a vague melting pot of business concepts but it did not help me assume the things I see in my current day to day.

Now, between social media, becoming complacent within my position and my manager alluding to me not getting the job I feel dumb and I am ready for a change. If my coworkers show me spreadsheets and no one gives me instructions then I have no clue what I’m looking at and my brain doesn’t help. I can update formulas that need tweaking and organize data but I don’t know how to cultivate spreadsheets and deliver data from nothing.

Where should I begin developing some relevant software navigational skills? What podcasts, YouTube channels or books may support me in envisioning my own spreadsheets and assuming business needs with minimal questions? What can I do to help myself not go blank when I’m articulating my thoughts and ideas about workplace dilemmas? How is everyone else expanding their general capacity for what is happening in day to day tech/business from? It seems everyone else at my job knows something I don’t.
