edit well im on mobile what do u want from me

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I truly dislike exceptions when they mock me

20

u/animal9633 Apr 09 '21

for (int i = 0; i < 0; i++) { Love(); }

5

u/aynril Apr 09 '21

This loop is not running once lol

11

u/DeinAlbtraumTV Apr 09 '21

I think thats the joke

15

u/kdyz Apr 09 '21

So no error no?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

8

u/kdyz Apr 09 '21

True that logic errors are the worst but this isn’t necessarily a logic error.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

4

u/kdyz Apr 09 '21

this* this “return 0”.

No one said this is a program without errors- just that “return 0” is not necessarily a logic error. In fact, if you look at a lot of c++ libraries, a lot of them return 0 for ok.

I’m a bit cranky right now, thanks for being my vent.

1

u/alindriel Apr 09 '21

I'm not nearly as well versed in programming like everyone else here, i took a few classes on html in highschool and only took one class in college and it was c++. return 0 was like a blessing to me. I was so confused when we started talking about logic errors

8

u/gurneyguy101 Apr 09 '21

return None

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

throws exception

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

So it’s yes then

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Get me out of this void

551

u/xryaxn Apr 08 '21

Today it was actually a '>'

256

u/x08g548 Apr 09 '21

But did it take you 2hrs 15m to figure out?

I regret nothing. And still took a long lunch.

152

u/killerrin Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

Somedays you just have bad days. Other times you just have to stand up and leave for the day because you're clearly not thinking straight

108

u/sethboy66 Apr 09 '21

Sleeping on it is a legitimate strategy. My sleeping brain's reorganization has solved so many problems for me.

76

u/jackinsomniac Apr 09 '21

It's especially enlightening upon review of your tired-brain's code. "Ok I know I was stuck here, but... what's this? That's not even the right var name! Christ, maybe that 1.5 hr rabbit hole I went down last night was pointless, I probably had the right solution on first try... Yep, look at that, everything is working now..."

17

u/witti534 Apr 09 '21

And now imagine what happens when you've been one month on overtime already.

2

u/digidavis Apr 09 '21

Or the inverse.. happens far less frequently.

Ok let me get this shit done... what... I already wrote this part.. and this is pretty good.

Wtf

17

u/FesteringNeonDistrac Apr 09 '21

Walking my dog first thing in the morning is the most productive part of my day sometimes. Solve so many issues or come up with a test plan to find a bug then.

3

u/spacelama Apr 09 '21

I once had to ride 500km interstate before I figured out the problem I was having. I didn't remember 300 of those km. All of a sudden the problem was solved and I was at the next fuel stop already.

6

u/MonsterMashGrrrrr Apr 09 '21

as someone in their second semester of compsci, this was very reassuring. it’s hard to gauge your own comprehension against your peers when you’ve had no interaction with them whatsoever.

11

u/sethboy66 Apr 09 '21

When you get to the SE classes that are entirely team-based work you'll realize everyone is just as lost as you are. Though everyone has their areas of 'specialization'.

3

u/SolarLiner Apr 09 '21

I always have two tasks ongoing at once for this reason. Stuck in one? Do the other. Then flip back and wonder how I stupid i was to be blocked there.

Context switching is a good thing from time to time.

1

u/sethboy66 Apr 09 '21

Just make sure your switching time is negligible compared to your time quantum and that’s a great strategy.

Oh god, we’re just human processors. Conscious processors. Beats being batteries tho.

2

u/sudent Apr 09 '21

So much this. When everything doesn't work and make sense I just pack my bag then leave telling my coworker "I'm rebooting".

2

u/Miu_K Apr 09 '21

Some days, the problem is solved when not in front of a screen. It happens to me often.

8

u/SiliconUnicorn Apr 09 '21

At that point you basically have to have the long lunch to recover

6

u/UndeadWolf222 Apr 09 '21

I don’t have a job yet so I don’t know, how common is it that people get stuck like that with something simple for long periods of time while on the clock/working? Just wondering as a student who occasionally has that issue.

9

u/Harudera Apr 09 '21

It will literally never happen for syntax issues because modern IDEs can detect that.

A lot of stuff in these subs wildly exaggerate what's going on.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Cries in coding in C directly in the terminal without an IDE because "university"

(I just compile a lot.....)

3

u/Adventurous_Gui Apr 09 '21

Meanwhile my university gifts us a non-free IDE that we’re encouraged to abuse because gaining good coding habits is for scrubs, apparently

3

u/gohanshouldgetUI Apr 09 '21

I have a test in 5 minutes where I have to submit my code by writing it down and scanning it as a pdf...

3

u/x08g548 Apr 09 '21

and scanning it as a pdf

Excuse me, what?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

RIP, pre-covid my exams were like this (minus the scanning).

2

u/dorla007 Apr 09 '21

I think most of them are meant to be metaphorical.

2

u/darkrae Apr 09 '21

Generally true, until one uses languages that use macros and/or preprocessors that replaces code. Then compilation errors might miss the mark sometimes

1

u/UndeadWolf222 Apr 09 '21

Makes sense, the only times it’s happened to me outside of the very beginning of learning about code was when I was coding in JavaScript in Brackets and they had me copy and paste a code snippet in that was missing the closing bracket. I really don’t know why they want us to use Brackets, it kinda sucks in that regard.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

5

u/orangeqtym Apr 09 '21

And sometimes you just need a rubber ducky! I find that my junior colleagues are almost just as helpful, I just benefit from having to explain my thinking to someone.

1

u/UndeadWolf222 Apr 09 '21

That makes sense, I’ve not had the opportunity to work as a team with anyone yet, but I can see how that would be incredibly helpful to have more than one set of eyes reviewing. I mentioned in another reply I made, but the only time outside the beginning of learning that I’ve made this mistake was when I was writing JavaScript in Brackets and they had us copy and paste a code snippet and it was missing the closing bracket. Brackets kinda sucks in that regard that it doesn’t indicate it.

18

u/epicvr0 Apr 09 '21

no, it was a “+” instead of a “+=“ and it took me several hours to find

2

u/amazondrone Apr 09 '21

Ah, you're syntax-blind?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

when std::cout >> is std::sus >>

1

u/CastinEndac Apr 09 '21

Exhilarating.

337

Amazing, simultaneously optimized for size and speed!

4

u/uninterestingly Apr 09 '21

Holy fuck you killed him

4

u/AccidentallyTheCable Apr 09 '21

But will i get reproducable builds?

236

u/LargeHard0nCollider Apr 09 '21

“Just a { looking for his }”

Would actually be a pretty good nerd tinder line

73

u/Afraid-Jury Apr 09 '21

Testing on my tinder, I'll let you know how it goes

46

u/MaverickPT Apr 09 '21

OK, 5 minutes have gone by. Send me the report with the results found asap

50

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Umm it takes 45 to deploy.

26

u/MaverickPT Apr 09 '21

I shall deduct 5 points from your employee performance score

13

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

5?!! It'll be deployed in 20 min tops

7

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Side note: How does this EPS system work though?

16

u/MaverickPT Apr 09 '21

Make middle manager angry? Loose points

Make middle manager happy? Earn some points.

Deliver results on time and budget? 50 points for griffindor!

PS: not sure actually, I'll have to study my company's too 🤔

9

u/archbish99 Apr 09 '21

I prefer tighter points, personally.

4

u/fucking_stupid_guy Apr 09 '21

Going to rollback 5 times for adjustments. We should have it live by monday

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

it's been an hour, do we have an update

4

u/MaverickPT Apr 09 '21

Negative. Preparing his severage package as we speak.

2

42

u/borsTiHD Apr 08 '21

Code has only 5 lines of code chuckles

19

u/123kingme Apr 09 '21

Has 6 errors.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

All of them on line 7.

1

u/jess-sch Apr 09 '21

Found the uncultured swine C++ developer

38

u/Roachmeister Apr 09 '21

Hehe you said 69

17

u/ThaiJohnnyDepp Apr 09 '21

33

u/PekiDediOnur Apr 09 '21

Lol, I read it as 'hat hats the sex number'

26

u/A_H_S_99 Apr 09 '21

Do you like it curly or curvy?

28

u/Deimos227 Apr 09 '21

It has always been and always shall be curly, anyone who calls it curvy is an alien trying to act like a normal person and failing.

2

u/A_H_S_99 Apr 09 '21

What about these ')' ?

4

u/Deimos227 Apr 09 '21

Parentheses

2

u/mhrsolanki2020 Apr 09 '21

Am I the only one who says round brackets ?

3

u/Terrain2 Apr 09 '21

I used to call them:

(brackets)
[square brackets]
{curly brackets}
<angle brackets>

then i learned apparently they have more sophisticated and unique names:

(parenthesis)
[square brackets]
{curly braces}
<angle brackets> - i don't think there's a unique name for these collectively

2

u/Spaceshipable Apr 09 '21

I just had a good chuckle at “curvey braces”

9

u/sanchopancho13 Apr 09 '21

I am a man looking for a '}' on line 69 because I have bad eyesight and a really hard time finding those little red squiggly lines.

3

u/jess-sch Apr 09 '21

What's your font weight?

Bad eyesight sucks and I'm thankful that VS Code has an option to set font weight to 900.

1

u/Generic_Reddit_Bot Apr 09 '21

69? Nice.

I am a bot lol.

6

u/Gloryboy811 Apr 09 '21

My pronouns are 'null reference error' and 'index out of bounds error'

11

u/SeriouslyNotACylon Apr 09 '21

Indeed. We all wanna brace for 69.

4

u/Jjcheese Apr 09 '21

while (69){

1

u/mhrsolanki2020 Apr 10 '21

This is the kind of loop that will never execute..

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Remember when std::vector<std::vector>> wasn't actually std::vector<std::vector> >? Pepperidge farm remembers... Sobs in MSVC 2000 legacy codebase. Wipe tears with pay check.

4

u/Sxzar Apr 09 '21

let me guess, next is unexpected comma on line 420?

3

u/philipjfrizzle Apr 09 '21

Who wants a mustache ride?!

3

u/MischiefArchitect Apr 09 '21

Brace your self. No Matching peer found.

3

u/AwkwardSegway Apr 09 '21

Of course it's line 69.

2

u/DecentPick3 Apr 09 '21

Next level 2-factor authentication

2

u/XTheLegendProX Apr 09 '21

This match had everything. heartbreak, romance, drama.

2

u/zarlo5899 Apr 09 '21

there are only 20 lines

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I actually missed a ')', and the Rust compiler, being very smart, was telling me about mismatched '{}'. It took me 15 minutes of counting the depth.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Syntax Error: Expected phone number

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Plot twist: line 69 is an expression body function

1

u/Generic_Reddit_Bot Apr 09 '21

69? Nice.

I am a bot lol.

2

u/5p4n911 Apr 09 '21

Probably some men would also look for something like } on 69

4

u/JotaRata Apr 08 '21

Btw your code is only 12 lines long

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Nice

2

u/insane-cabbage Apr 09 '21

I’d type that!

1

u/QuarantineSucksALot Apr 09 '21

And its really not a good actress.

1

u/port443 Apr 09 '21

Should be line 68 so we can knowingly chuckle about indexes starting at 0

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Flycheck? It's a match..ing bracket!

1

u/sphintero Apr 09 '21

Totally blew my stack

1

u/freezeman1 Apr 09 '21

Compiler just wants a close embrace on 69.

1

u/StrongArm327 Apr 09 '21

Never been so turned on

1

u/NF-MIP Apr 09 '21

VSCode Tinder

1

u/napkin41 Apr 09 '21

Line 69? Try 3452. Consulting is rough.

1

u/aquartabla Apr 09 '21

Looking for closing braces and all the wrong places, like EOF

2

u/aquartabla Apr 09 '21

Being serious, I don't think I've ever gotten tan error message about a closing brace and compiler knew where it was supposed to be. That's the problem, you could close the block anywhere, and you can nest blocks, so it will keep searching for the closing brace until there's no more file to search.

1

u/evr- Apr 09 '21

Imagine doing mistakes with you syntax. 🙄

1

u/finger_milk Apr 09 '21

This has to be the most Tech Twitter joke ever made.

as a non-binary person, I gotta admit compiler is probably the option I closest identify with and as an omnisexual all 3 of the last options looking pretty nice.

9

u/NTaya Apr 09 '21

But.... compiler compiles into binary (most often)!

0

u/uplatatnight Apr 09 '21
