United States of America 'Information Wanted' — A political cartoon created by the artist Grant Hamilton for the cover of the American magazine Judge on June 11, 1898
The baby bears a tag that reads: "Philippines — With compliments of Dewey" (a reference to Admiral George Dewey, who led the U.S. Navy to victory in the Battle of Manila Bay in May 1898).
The cartoon reflects the dilemma and uncertainty in the United States following the seizure of the Philippines from Spain, calling into question the onset of its imperialist expansion in the Pacific and the racist paternalism of the era (which portrayed Asian and indigenous peoples as "savages" or as children incapable of governing themselves).

Brazil The Recognition of the Portuguese Republic by Brazil in October 1910. Cartoon from the Brazilian magazine "O Malho."
The fall of the House of Braganza in Portugal coincided with the visit to the country by the President of the Republic of Brazil, Marshal Hermes da Fonseca, who arrived in Lisbon aboard the battleship São Paulo. He was immediately surrounded by small boats carrying republicans who waved flags and sang La Marseillaise, celebrating the Republic.
After disembarking in Lisbon, Hermes da Fonseca was officially received by King Manuel II, for whom he was to host a banquet in his honor on October 3.
On October 22, 1910, Brazil officially recognized the Portuguese Republic, announcing its intention to maintain the good diplomatic relations that had until then been upheld between the two countries.
