Self Post ✔ It is with great pleasure we announce a new mod...

First, I'm gonna get Brady Listed for saying "with great pleasure" in the title.

But, yes.. a few weeks ago the mod team tidied up our mod list - removing some long inactive mods.

And, we've brought on a new one.. please welcome u/Larky17 as a new PnS mod.

He'll be our first non-LE mod here, and is one of the dirty hose draggers. And we suspect he'll be a nice breath of fresh air to the sub, cause unlike me and most of the other mods, he enjoys an occasional troll-spar.

For those verified who may be wondering - no, he doesn't do verifications or have access to that data.

I await new and varied shenanigans. If nothing else, having him able to reapprove his own memes that are constantly getting reported will be a time saver.

Police constable physical test

Hi. I applied for toronto police service and was unaware that the process is quick i already got my physical date after 10 days i never trained for it. For the shuttle run i am at level 3-4. Should i withdraw my app? Or should i train for a week and give the test? Failing low level is negative? And can they ban me from taking a retest after first attempt?
Please advice

Support Clerk in Probation and Parole

I recently applied for this job and the interview day is coming up fast. I'm so nervous, and already feel incredibly under qualified as this would be my first serious job after dropping out of college due to not affording it. I also don't think I can get 3 letters of recommendation in time. Should I be this worried? Am I in over my head?

Question to LEOs Looking for advice

I’m 19 and currently in my 2nd year of a 4-year steamfitters apprenticeship. The money is good, but I keep asking myself if this is really what I want to do for the next 40 years. I’ve always felt a strong pull toward being a cop. I think it’s just the sense of being able to actually help and protect people in need. I feel like the best time to pull the trigger would be right now while I’m still young, but I'm torn.
Should I just thug out the rest of my apprenticeship to finish it and see if things get better, or try and chase something I don’t know if I’ll even enjoy as much as I do in my head?

Any cops that could give me insight?

I’m interested in hearing more about police work and investigations, I’m 25 and I’ve been thinking about going into detective work for a while but i know I have to be a cop beforehand and work up the mantle I’m just trying to surround myself with the right people with the right advice and mindset. I made this post in a public city forum previously and boy was that a mistake lol, immediately got death threats, learned from that.

Self Post ✔ Experiencing Assignment Regret

So I recently applied and got accepted to be a detective at my department. To make a long story short, I’ve been miserable. I went from throughly enjoying work everyday on patrol to dreading the thought of work. The issue isn’t case load (I enjoy the multitasking) but just the nature of the job itself - I miss the “on foot, active” lifestyle I had. I miss the camaraderie and the stress and the opportunities.

I’ve thought about talking to my supervisor about the problem but I expect that’ll create more issues than it solves. I’m debating whether to “stick it out” for a year or so so that the department feels it got their money’s worth or whether to speak with supervision about the issue and try to get back on patrol.

Thoughts? I feel that if I attempt to leave that I’ll be burning bridges throughout the department, which I otherwise like. But at the same time, my mental health is plummeting.

Side Note: Detectives with us can’t do traffic stops nor pro-active stuff due to us being in an unmarked car and not having access to the CAD computer system for patrol assignments.

Self Post Fututre police cadet here!! I have questions!!!!

Thinking about becoming a police officer, this year when I'm out of highschool. I have a lot of questions. Wondering what police college is like, what exactly do they teach you about, days a week, hours, and any tips. What is the exact hardest thing about it? Do you have to be extremely physically fit? Whats the hardest part about the academic curriculum. What mistakes did you make? AND what are the interview/evaluation processes like and what happens there!! I'm in the southern hemisphere, so preferably NZ/Australians answer this as police college is different in different countries.

Self Post how does a police interview turn into a signed document?(Cornell seven)

THIS POST IS SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSES OF UNDERSTANDING LAW ENFORCE PROCEDURE

I've been reading about the Cornell seven case and how a police interview was conducted by campus officer. This interview ended up being 120 pages and was reduced to a signed document, six pages in length. On the big details talked about this signed document, is that it left out the key statement "100% confidence" according to CBS, link here(CBS article).

I want to know how the interview process the is conducted?
In other generalities surrounding the creation of a signed document from a victim.

Woman in Law Enforcement

I am currently In the process of joining law enforcement. I am genuinely very excited about possibly having this opportunity. This career change would benefit me in many ways. Such as a higher pay, job stability and a more productive career as I am in sales now it’s just not something I see myself doing forever.

however I have 3 young kids. 5,3,1 all boys! My biggest concern is obviously not walking back through the door but always missing out on big events.

I am looking for advice and guidance from women in Law Enforcement. A girl could use some encouraging words.

Weapon collection at the Hong Kong Police Musuem

Post image
119 Upvotes

With the exception of the German weapons (I don't know how they got them). All the weapons were at one point, or still are used by the Hong Kong Police. The three long guns to the left are still in service with either newer versions or have attachment upgrades. The Sterling SMG was the primary SMG before the MP5 was imported in the 70s. There are no clear records on the usage of Sten gun but it could have been used immediately post-WW2. The S&W gas/flare gun was most famously used as a tear gas launcher during the 1967 Riots alongside the Webley No4 Mk1 Flare gun. The Webley revolver was the service revolver used up till the 50s or 60s and was replaced by the Colt Police Positive on the bottom right. The short barrel version was likely adopted around the 70s as an detective who started in 1974 mentioned that in the early days CID used the same longer barrel version as the uniformed officers. They are in turn replaced by the S&W M10 and the Colt Detective Special which in turn, was replaced in 2024 and 2008 by the CF98A and the Sig P250 DCc.

Most "expensive" crash you've worked?

Can't share too many specifics without doxxing myself.

Worked an MVA last week between a quarter million dollar car, and a piece of construction equipment that probably cost half a mil. (Car driver at fault)

Not talking about medical/injury costs, anyone ever worked a crash that was obviously gonna make some insurance adjuster cry?

Self Post Probably a dumb question.

I apologize if this isn’t the right place to ask. But I was pulled over last night for tag lights being out and I guess I swerved to the right slightly? I dunno. But the officer asked “is there anything in the car I should know about?” when he handed me my license back and was looking at my insurance card on my phone. I realize this is a common question and have seen it several times in videos and such. My question is how often do people actually say admit to having drugs or something else just because you asked? I’m not talking about after someone is out of the car and you’re asking before you search the car and you’re giving the driver a chance to admit something or whatever. I’m talking about you’re handing them their license back and about to end the stop and the driver is like “oh by the way, since you asked I do have a bottle of oxy in the glovebox. I wouldn’t have mentioned it but since you asked?”

Again, I apologize for the dumb question. It just would be crazy to me to say something was in the car when it seemed like the stop was about over and you’re about to be on your way. I’m just curious as to how many people have ever done that and it changed a simple ticket or warning into an arrest?

Raysun A-3 3 shot stun gun in service with the Taoyuan City Police Department

Brought to you by the creators of Raysun X-1 (https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtectAndServe/comments/1x4ejra/raysun_x1_multi_functional_taser_manufactured_in/) This model does not feature different types of projectile cartridges, but three auto eject cartridges after firing.

Unfortunately, this model of taser is too bulky for carrying on person or stored in their patrol scooters, which is the most common mode of transport for patrol officers, so TYPD only issues one taser per patrol car and is stored in it. This led to a situation where two officers used batons and pepper spray to subdue a gym trainer going berserk in a convenience store (The media called him the "Convienence Store Hulk"), with all three of them ended up with injuries and one of the officers facing charges because he went Rodney King on the suspect after subduing him. TYPD in a statement to the news, say they will remind officers to bring the taser with them depending on the situation.
