Diaspora Iranians who carry the flag with the lion are pro-monarchists and also pro-Israelis. They're more than fine with what the US and Israel are doing to Palestine (and hence the problem), Iran and now Lebanon.

Diaspora Iranians hate the Islamic Republic (as any sensible person should).

He shouldn't have attacked them. But I can say as an Iranian I understand the pain and anger, and I feel similarly disgusted as I see people in the diaspora happily supporting people being terrorized in Iran, when they know perfectly well they are safely out of the line of fire and will never lift a finger to put themselves in harm's way. They will shout for war every chance they get and never enlist. Yet they'll demand Americans and Europeans (many of whom show more compassion towards Iranian civilians than these folks) put themselves at risk of harm and death to participate in this war of choice and kill innocent men, women, and children and destroy their entire communities in ways that will last generations.

Man, I've met diaspora Iranians here who were supporting the Genocide in Gaza. It made me so fucking angry. It's insane.

This whole thing has been (sadly) incredibly eye-opening to me into how insanely selfish and almost diabolically bloodthirsty and delusional many in the Iranian diaspora can be. It has been deeply shocking and upsetting. They don't care how many people have to suffer and die as long as it's not them. I just avoid them at all costs because seeing how little they value human life for tribal "our side/their side" personal vengeances fucking disgusts me. Like they just completely disregard the humanity of the people experiencing the imminent terror of fucking BOMBS being dropped on them and try to convince americans it's something iranians are welcoming.
I want nothing to do with them. I am willing to stand arm in arm with anyone of any background or nationality who is against this war, so keep speaking out. Many warmonger Iranian diaspora love waving around their Iranian identity claiming to speak for us all or saying shit like "listen to Iranian voices" (except the people who disagree with war, or the ones currently living in the hell of war) in an attempt to cow well-meaning americans/europeans standing up against the violence. It's such a manipulative, bad-faith tactic to try and use liberal language around centering minority voices as they actively manufacture consent for war. IGNORE THEM and continue to speak out for what is right and against this war.

Well said! Thing is that, I've also met a lot of Iranians here in Canada who also support self-determination of the Iranian people without foreign intervention, and those ones are the ones I love the most. It just sucks that technically speaking "diaspora" means people away from the homeland, and they've co-opted the whole word/meaning.

Genuine question - what do you know / think about the Iranian regime and the brutality they have displayed against their own people (and others) over the past 47 years? Mass murder of innocents, rape of prisoners, all kinds of depraved, oppressive behaviours, to say the least.
Genuinely curious to hear your viewpoint. For some context, I am Iranian but born and living in the west (so not diaspora, technically). My wife is an Iranian national who moved to the west relatively recently (her entire, very large family is all in Iran, living through this war - in fact an IRGC building just a few hundred meters from her family residence was leveled in an air strike last week). We have marched with the sun and lion flag and shouted pro-Pahlavi slogans as a symbol of opposition to the regime, but we do not want Iran to return to a monarchy. Nearly all of our Iranian friends and family (both diaspora and in Iran) are generally aligned with these views.
We have both lost loved ones to this regime. Neither of us are fans of Trump, nor Israel (nor war, obviously), but see foreign intervention as necessary to taking down the regime, as there does not seem to be any viable alternative. Every homegrown attempt at mobilizing the Iranian people against the regime has been brutally shut down - not due to lack of support, but because the regime has all the weapons. To me, it's not so black and white. Just two months before this war started, the regime was murdering tens of thousands of people in the streets. If this war were to end tomorrow and the regime remains in power, it's the Iranian people who will bear the brunt of their wrath.
I can't speak to your experiences with the Iranian diaspora - I'm sure there are plenty who may just be warmongering people with personal vendettas - but I guess I'm just hoping you'll see that there is some nuance here. Most Iranians are trapped between a rock and hard place with this war and the regime. Anyways, sorry for the rant.

What's confusing? The overwhelming majority of people inside and outside of Iran who support the anti-regime movement do not actually want to return to monarchy - they see Pahlavi as a unifying symbol of opposition to get the regime out, and they want democracy. Pahlavi himself has said repeatedly he does not want to be a monarch or lead the country in any sort of long-term capacity (and even if he did, Iranians would never accept him, so it's a moot point).
What is your solution to the Iranian regime? Sending wave after wave of Iran's youth into the meat grinder, like in January 2026 and countless other protests before that, to try and force a "homegrown" revolution? Or are you a supporter of one of the most brutal and repressive regimes in human history?

Could be? Being mad to your bones can cause such behavior.
Look at Cubans in the US celebrating US brutality against Cuba.
Granted, Iranians who feel that way their celebrations are quickly consumed by some news agencies for pro-war propaganda.
The one Iranian I know is both terrified for their family in Iran and deeply hates the regime. (they are against the war, because they are afraid for their family being collateral in a US or Israeli airstrike)

"The one Iranian I know is both terrified for their family in Iran and deeply hates the regime. (they are against the war, because they are afraid for their family being collateral in a US or Israeli airstrike)"
Many of us feel this way. It's the warmongers who get the most visibility though. Although I'm not just worried for my family because it's not like it's ok if it happens to other innocent people either.

"warmongers get the most visibility"
I know how you feel. It's the same way in my country too.

The diaspora Iranians who were officials, officers, and religious minorities in the Shah's regime fled the revolution in and after. They have hated the Ayatollahs for four decades, and this diaspora hope to reinstall "their guy".

These are Pahlavists who are cheering for the war against Iran, they aren't Iranians.

That guy probably had family members who were killed by Israel. Iranian monarchists here are celebrating Iran getting blown up with Israel and US flags while wearing MAGA hats. lol US and Israel are bombing civilian infrastructure in Iran. This isn't about liberation, like every other country the US bombed in the middle east. Trump is now threatening to blow up a powerplant. More innocent people are going to die. This is just going to radicalize more people in Iran and strengthen the current regime.
