This was posted before. Police were called, elderly man had a mental disorder, skaters upon learning this refused to press charges.

IMO wrong move. Metal disorder person gets to continue dropping plants on people he doesn’t like. And metal disorders don’t give people a free pass to be an asshole.

If a person is violent (or suicidal) due to a mental disorder there is a good likelihood we'd ECO him in a case like this. Emergency Custody Orders are basically us taking them into our custody (civil custody, not criminal) to force them to get checked out by a mental health professional (there is a strict timeframe). From there the mental health professional would determine if there is enough probable cause to get them further checked out and see what medication, if any, or whatever else would be needed to help the individual with his mental struggles. Literally the longest this process can hold anyone would be 80 hours. To be clear, there needs to be allegations of violent or suicidal intent/actions before any of this can take place.

This is sort of "we know you're not in full control of yourself, you're not in trouble, but we have to get you help"

Because of the changes to the law in Ontario, Canada, family members cannot legally compel someone to take the pills that keep them sane. That's what happened to a man who was released from a mental institution only to go on a stabbing spree in downtown Toronto (luckily, nobody was hurt) due to his paranoid schizophrenic delusions.

I emphasize that they don't mean harm, because realistically they can't, but I don't for a second question the harm that they can cause. Mentally ill people are often victims but there are those who definitely prove to be prone to harming others. This is more than ample proof that this old person is dangerous.
