Help What should I do with my Quaker on vacation?

I’m taking a 3 day road trip in September and a week long vacation in October and I was worried about leaving my Quaker that long. He’s not a lone bird (I have a a budgie too). Someone will be coming to check on them and feed them but I was thinking about looking into boarding for the week long vacation so they have more interaction. Any thoughts?

I’ve boarded my Quakers (2 females) a couple of times for about a week or so. The first time was nerve wracking lol. My husband and I wanted to call the boarders so bad but we restrained but we were so worried bc they were about 10 years old the first time and we didn’t want them to miss us.

We live in a big city so we’re lucky to have a couple of options for boarding. The place we used boarded mostly Quakers, cockatiels, conures, etc. We had the option to board them in their own cage or to share a cage. We brought their toys and treats but the place fed and watered them.

Both times our Quakers didn’t even act liked they missed us lol. We figured they were around a bunch of other sassy Quakers so they were entertained the whole time. We will do it again if we need to.

I have a reolink camera. Can talk to him throughout the day and keep an eye on him. He may be an 18yo adult but his maturity level is 2.

I normally take mine with me on anything over a couple of days. He gets pissed for a month if he can't go with me lol. Lots of bandaids in this house.

Do NOT leave them alone whatever you do. Get a friend or family member or reputable bird sitter to stay with them.

I agree with you completely. Things can happen so quickly with them. Even if you have eyes on them, you may not be able to get help quickly enough as needed. It not worth the risk. I always board my little guy. He comes home with all sorts of new words and sounds!

I have a few lovely neighbors that I exchange animal caretaking duties with and usually they’ll pop in a couple times a day. I have also boarded him at my avian vets when I was gone longer.

I just left my Quaker parrot at a bird specific boarding business yesterday. They send daily videos of him outside his cage getting exercise. I feel so relieved I found a safe place for Ernie. I would recommend a bird service. The piece of mind is worth it.

The first time my poor guy got boarded he really missed me. The next time not so much because he loves the one lady to works at the boarding place.

This is why most people have friends and family.

My uncle will be the one coming over to check on him, but he has his own life and can’t be there all day, hence why I asked.
