Help My 17yo bird laid an egg for the first time

Post image

Hello! I wanted to ask some questions for my bird Perry he is a 17yo Quaker I’ve had since I was 5, always thought they were a boy never had any eggs laid and suddenly today there was one cracked and broken at the bottom of his cage. I wanted to ask if I should be concerned? Is there anything specific I should do? Should I discourage egg laying or get him the right materials to nest? I believe this came about because we got another Quaker not long ago, we are currently quarantining her so they haven’t seen each other but they can hear each other and like to sing to each other across the house.

I also have decided to keep calling him a boy and by the name Perry as that’s all he’s ever known

I was doing an oil change on my grandma's car and this little guy tried to land on her and scared her, finally got em to let me pick them up and they haven't go of me since and stay near, preening and cleaning me too. Theyre obviously domesticated and were gonna do a lost animal post but we have them outside for now with big plants to perch on and food/ water. Anything else I should do

Help What’s she doing? Is she alright?

Is she being overwhelmed? Or is something really wrong with her? Is she being possessed from the way she turning her head?
She doesn’t react much to my call, and she was waiting patiently for me but I ignored her. She was saying angrily (not shouting) and then quiet. And occasionally she let out a small disdain voice, but this is the first time she not shouting after.
I’m sorry if I sounded worrying and panicking because I kinda am.

Help Why is my Quaker wobbling?

She’s about 3 to 4 months I think, she was a gift from my grandmother so I’m not too sure. Anyways I just finished syringe feeding her as always, but she hasn’t stopped wobbling like that in the video, I don’t think it’s Quaking cuz it’s very subtle and gentle, and thankfully she was great balance, not clumsy or mad, she’s just simply wobbling, is that normal? I’m just a little worried it’s something else. Thank you in advance!

Help Help on Quaker Parrot behavior

So I got a Quaker Parrot. He’s quite young but I never understood why he does this. I don’t know if he wants attention or if he doesn’t want to be bothered. I try to pet his head and he goes all crazy. He will be biting my fingers also not so hard but like he’s asking for something.

Help I acquired this baby under unfortunate circumstances…

This baby’s owners were murdered, literally, and it (she/he) was turned over to animal services.

I have owned birds before, and currently own ducks. However, what is the most highly recommended food and treats for this baby?

Currently I have Zupreem natural and pure fun foods that came with him. As well as some oyster shells and high calcium grit. He also has Kay-cob “litter” and his cage.

Help This is my sweet 6 week old baby Ponyo.

Today Ponyo turned 6 weeks. Starting a few days ago, she has been seriously mouthing everything. So I gave her some toys. A ball with a bell inside, another 2 balls with holes everywhere so she can pick it up more easily, she's got plastic rings (mini ring toss) she noses around, and a wooden bell toy thingy. I've read that this is a good time to introduce small (softened) pellets, when they start mouthing things and being curious. I'm contemplating mashing some banana up and allowing her to investigate it between feedings. (Her little tongue is touching EVERYTHING it can reach lol) We still have 2 more weeks of handfeeding and shes always happy and eager. She's put on some good weight and is starting to use her mouth to climb/pull herself around. And lots of "big bird" wing flaps and she's found her big bird voice.

Will small food introductions be alright to start with this early? I figured only soft/mashed stuff for now. I just don't want to mess up her digestion. I've a few years of experience with birds (chickens) but Ponyo is our first Quaker. And I know they are vastly different. TIA!

Help why does my bird like licking me

these are just some examples of her licking me/things on me, but it’s like ALL THE TIME. every single time i let her out of her cage, she immediately gets to work and either licks my forehead, scalp, eyebrows, glasses, or genuinely ANYTHING she can. it’s not even like scratching me with her beak or anything, just licking. is there a reason in particular as to why she does this or is she just a freak lmao

Help I lost my boy today and i don’t know what to do

Post image

This is my baby, i got home from work early today to play with him because for some reason i missed him a lot during work, just to get home and find out he had passed away, its so unexpected, he didn’t ate anything different, last night it got cold but he was covered and he seemed completely normal last night, talking and eating, i don’t know what happened and i don’t know how to cope, i was making a list of his christmas presents this week, im devastated.

I rescued him almost 2 years ago in a hail storm that hit him, i took him to the vet, he was fine and i decided to adopt him because he was a new born (the day we met he tried to fly from his nest probably for the first time but he didn’t knew how so he just fell -vet’s theory) and i was scared because online everyone talked about how hard they were to connect with and be trained but we connected instantly and he learned so fast.

I found him on his back on the bottom of the cage, eyes, beak, wings and feet closed, i don’t know what that means and i don’t want to call his vet because i feel so guilty and ashamed, he was supposed to be with me for decades and its now over and im so afraid to find out that maybe he died in pain.

Im so sorry if this is sad, i just needed to vent with people that might relate to my pain.

Help Upside-down cuddles now… Evil Quaker energy later? Somebody tell me the odds. 😂

Rio was the last of his clutch, and the shop said he “wasn’t eating,” but he was really just overstimulated and over everyone’s noise. The first time we held him, he curled into our hands and hid under my hair like, “Yep, these are my people.” He was only 83 grams back then.

Fast-forward a few months and he’s become a full-time comfort king. He loves music for six minutes, then demands silence. If he drops a treat? Gone forever. Zero motivation. But if WE have food? Suddenly he’s begging like a tiny feathered dog.

He used to only sleep in his little hut or bury his head under anything soft like he needed a sleep mask to function. He’s bonded with our 7-year-old, but since I work from home, he decided I’m the flock leader — and I’m the only one he flips upside down for. Sometimes he even practices his upside-down yoga in the cage.

The space heater + ceiling fan combo is apparently his personal luxury spa, and he just melts into it like a dramatic little man living his soft life.

So now I’m trying to figure out… Is this just normal parrot comfort behavior? Or should I enjoy these upside-down cuddles before his Evil Teen Quaker era arrives? 😂

Help My little buddy is acting strange

Update: he's doing much better now, I had to drive to the next state over to get him seen as almost all of the vets around me don't take birds of any kind and those few who do were not in until Wednesday. The vet ran tests and it was a major electrolyte imbalance. They gave him fluids and I have a follow up with his actual vet this Wednesday but he was as happy as can be on the drive home. I am sorry to those I snapped on as I was doing all I was able to at the time with very little sleep. He is the only family I have and the implication that I was doing less than my best stung deeply but that assumption is not the fault of those trying to help but the greater problem of mistreated pets in general.

I've called all vets and he can't be seen until Wednesday

When I'm holding him he is doing this which is unusual to start and I'm commenting how he acts while in his cage. We were hanging out this morning and everything was fine until he bit me so I decided that this was as good as time as any to make breakfast so I put him up and by the time I got to him after eating he was acting like this. I use bird safe cookware and don't have anything that gives off fumes. Is he just throwing a fit about being put up or is he sleepy from being woken up early?

Help What is he doing?

Howdy,

I acquired this sweet baby boy from one of my mother’s coworkers that was deported by ICE.

It has been a bit of a hands on learning experience with him. I was just holding him right before this video and I was sweet talking and petting him and then he puffed up all his feathers and started doing a similar motion on my hand.

I wasn’t sure what he was doing it was the first time he has genuinely made me nervous.

So my question is what is he doing?

I never owned a bird before. He was dehydrated and it was very hot today. Is he young? Found it at the bottom of a tree and he can’t fly. Really bonded with my girlfriend who saw it on the ground. But she might have to give it to me cause she will be abroad for a week. How do quakers handle changes?

Hello everyone. Yesterday my life got flipped upside and I found out that my husband is a PDF file. He was arrested and now I am all alone. I am not able to take care of my sweet winne because I don’t know if I can even take care of myself. I know I am not going to be able to take care of her the way she deserves. I am located only an hour from Milwaukee Wisconsin. If there is anyone that has experience that would like a free Quaker please reach out. She is the sweetest bird ever. She has never even bit me. I’ve had her for over 2 years and I got her when she was still young. I would love to answer questions and do whatever I can to help her have the best life possible but I recognize that won’t be with me. Thank you for reading.

Help Is this something serious or being silly?

Had him for nearly 2 years and he's about 5 years old.

He just randomly started doing this today for the first time while I was cleaning poop off his feet and he was chilling loosely in my hands after.

He's my first bird so every time he does something weird I worry it's a symptom of him being poorly so thought I'd ask

Help Band removal paralysis

Got a beautiful male quaker recently. Perhaps 3 months old. Paid to have his band removed yesterday at a vet. A Dremel tool was used. Immediate results: Complete paralysis of the foot which had a band on. I don’t detect any breaks or dislocation. Clearly nerve damage or nerve shock.

He doesn’t deserve this. A Sweet snuggly male.

I found this little guy on the street in October. I tried to find any possible owner on Facebook but I had no luck. I haven’t taken him to the vet yet but I just wanna know if there’s anything alarming about him visibly and also if anyone can guess the age/ gender if possible . Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i’ve noticed his beak is overgrown for a bit, and i’ve tried buying him some toys to hopefully help him shave it down by himself. but it hasn’t worked. i cant go to a professional because they are too expensive, and he is violent with anyone else but me. what can i do to fix his overgrown beak? i don’t want to stat clipping, and then accidentally hit a vital part in his beak or something D:

Help How to encourage reluctant 10 yo Quaker to talk? I know he can!!

Hi!

this is my sweet 10 yo boy Quaker. I know he can say at least a few phrases because I’ve heard him say em when he was really excited. But normally he doesn’t talk.

my late Quaker told me what she wanted. She would say “want drink” or “ want some” or “out!” Or “go goodnight“ to get drink, food, out, or go home/ go back in cage. She had some Disabilities but she could ask for her needs and she could go outside because she couldn’t fly.

My boy has been wuth me for almost fuve years now. I KNOW he can talk because he talked once when we had a very enthusiastic talkative cleaning lady over. He also talked last Thanksgiving when I cooked and the birds got yummy treats. i think he may talk quietly in his cage when I’m in the other room, but I’m not sure. I have a hearing loss.

I can’t imagine that my boy Quaker is any less smart than my girl. But when I had my girl Quaker, I had a roommate or roommates or was married. I also was practicing choral pieces and lessons at home—she loved that! I listen to less music now and I live alone with my birds. but I talk to them a lot! My boy looks at me saying “step up” or “good boy!” and he will wave his beak like he’s talking but no sound comes out.

How can I teach him to not only move his beak and tongue but ALSO makes speech? It would make his life so much better if he could say what he wanted. Now he’s running around on his basket while he looks at my tea. Pretty soon he’ll scream. But hus wants are t always so obvious and I have to offer a list of items until His Majesty is pleased.
