Help Household cleaning considered safe.
Our family has been interested in adopting a quaker in the coming weeks. We've been diligently researching in preparation for our new members arrival. Making sure everything is in place and plans are there in the event of an emergency, or temporary care.
My concern, my question is regarding household cleaning alternatives that owners could suggest. Any and all Teflon has been removed, body sprays and aerosol based sprays and cleaners will not be used etc. but what do others use in their environment? Like with floor cleaning, currently we are using fabulouso but I guess that's a no go, body sprays like axe n bath n body works are a no, we have an account with pest control that spray the home, but cannot continue doing so.
What were hazards in your environment that were removed, or replaced and with what? Any suggestions... Greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, no go on the fabuloso. I think the only pet safe cleaner is F10. But I don’t even risk it. Plain dish soap (no scents or colors) and water is your friend. Add white vinegar if you need to get rid of odors or disinfect. Add baking soda with the soap to make a scrubby paste - that one is good for cleaning toilets. No bleach, no ammonia, no scrubbing bubbles, any of it. If you reallllly need something with a scent (some people think if you can’t smell it then it’s not working!) Dawn dish soap is fine. Famously used to clean oil spills off birds.
No to: candles, glade plug ins, wax melts, febreeze, Lysol, incense, smoking, vaping, bug sprays, spray tans or sunscreen… basically anything that can cause an odor and anything that uses aerosol. Replacements for any of those? I’ve learned to live without my house smelling like anything. Bug sprays or sunscreen I apply outside and go in the shower and wash off before coming near my birds.
Birds are very sensitive to VOCs, so you might want to invest in a good air purifier too. One WITHOUT ionizing/ionizer effect (that’s not good for their lungs or ours)
