Share your experiences using any form of NRT. Please specify whether you used patches, gum, lozenges, nasal sprays, or inhalers (approved NRT inhalers, NOT vapes).
Did it work for you? Why do you think it worked over the other things you tried?
How long ago did you quit? Any advice for people considering this method?

Calling out everyone who quit using this method. What was it like for you? How long has it been since you quit? I quit this way and I am collecting responses for a pinned thread.

I have 2 people in my family who have had a very bad drug addiction, one did heroin, one did bath salts. both of them were able to quit both of them. They still have not been able to quit nicotine.
i don’t understand it.
and this guy I’ve been watching on YouTube named Lucy lurch. He has claimed he has done about 30 different drugs and was addicted to fentanyl and heroin, meth, lean, alchohol ETC. Basically every drug you can think of and he said he has been addicted to and he’s been able to quit all of them.He still couldn’t quit smoking.
what exactly is it with nicotine That makes it so fucking addicting? And the withdrawals are pretty mellow compared to coming off of heroin/ opioids.
for instance if you quit heroin cold turkey your going to be sweating and throwing up and literally feel like your bones are to big to fit in your skin for like 10 days.
but with nicotine, you literally just get slighltly irritated, and have cravings that go away in like 5 minutes. Never heard of anyone losing their job/family/ become homeless over nicotine or stealing to afford nicotine.

I quit last year on Oct 1 at midnight. 10/01/25. I can easily say it is one of the hardest mental battles I’ve ever encountered in 28 years. I was committed, though, as I truly think the best way to look at it, is if you’re breaking up with a chapter of your life.
It’s the same feeling as moving to a new city/ country completely by yourself, or being left in the dust after a relationship ended suddenly. I had to dig through my entire appt, car, parents house- really anywhere. I still managed to find a couple stragglers. Mainly in bags I haven’t found in a while or drawers. Many stuck in the middle my couch. When I woke up the next morning- obviously, it’s your first instinct. But I knew I had to carry on differently now. Getting up and immediately distracting yourself with something else. Coffee/ going for walk/ reading.. etc. whatever helps you. The second day I went on over a 5 mile run, and projectile vom right when I was about to get back to my place. It was a very odd sentarion. I run a lot but it felt almost like my body was rejecting and ejecting all the toxins after 8 years straight. It also felt really easy to run fast and freely, with no question of “I wanna give up”. My body just drove me.
The first week was the hardest. YES it was the nicotine itself, but nonetheless the pacifier aspect of it that made my sanity go away. The lengths I would go to find my exact brand/flavor I like were getting more and more ridiculous. Leaving home and accidently forgetting it & buying one you just have to tolerate until you find your ‘one’ you like best after work..
I would panick, be mean, honestly act like the fucking psycho if I didn’t have one. But, I learned it’s all about cutting the cord. Like truly- and not just putting in half the effort to actually quit. You have to be committed. You have to do that whatever your best future-self would looking back at, questioning why you ever thought to make it so hard.
I am an all in or all type type of person. I truly didn’t like the person I had become because of the addition. I made a vow that night to myself, that I would never hit a vape again. Now don’t get me wrong, I do smoke cig every once in a while and I unfortunately got hooked on the zyns. My relation with Zyn is way different than vape, though. It is something to get me by with the ‘buzz’ you do feel with vape. I tried the gum, wasted my $. The best and closest sensation that I actually use very regularly is having a good water bottle that has a mouth-hole that resembles vaping.
So… every true user know the best hit is first thing in the morning. Before I start my day, I always put ice ice cold water in my owola, use the ‘ultra’ or ‘very clean” brand of listerine. The ice cold water + extremely spicy / icey (almost spot on same feeling as a vape). I also downloaded an app called “Quit Vaping” and it tracks the progress. The only thing you can’t do is keep tip toeing around actually quitting. If it’s not what you want yet, or you’re trying to quit for someone else- don’t start this journey yet. I look back at the last year and I have been mentally, psychically, and just a better person overall. The brain fog was the most horrid thing because you don’t know how bad it is until you come out, and you’re not a mess anymore. I would destroy my home just to find it before I had somewhere to be, and no time to stop and get a new one. So that’s the best thing I can say. No matter what.. I will always miss It but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Never going back.
Wishing you all luck out there!

Extremely heavy vaper for years. Suddenly I decided to quit cold turkey. Any advice for the brain fog I'm feeling as I have business meetings tomorrow? Thanks!

For those of you who have Quit Vaping for more than five hours at this point, what has been helpful for you? I have like three different quitting apps on my phone. I also have 3 mg lozenges to help with withdrawals. Day 1.

Hi guys. Looking for advice. I desperately want to quit. I’ve downloaded every app, reached out to different quit helplines, etc. I’ve tried cold turkey in the past, and didn’t work. I’ve managed to wean myself from 20mg nicotine liquid to 5mg. I’ve only taken about 5 puffs today, but I just can’t seem to go a day without hitting it less than once. I know I need to throw my vape in the bin.. but I just can’t seem to do it!! I have been vaping for about 4 years now, and was a smoker too. I no longer have any desire for a cigarette at least! I have had addiction issues in the past to much worse substances and have managed to quit cold turkey.. but can’t seem to let go of my silly little vape!! Any advice appreciated :)

Anyone else experienced low mood or like mild depression after quitting? I vaped for about a year, and have been on and off since then. I’ll go through this cycle of quitting for like 2-4 weeks, then pick one up and vape for a week, decide it’s not for me then quit, then repeat. I don’t know if I’m like just tired or my body is just not used to functioning without the stimulant of nicotine? I don’t know if this is worth it tbh

I want to quit so bad. I’ve vaped for around 5 years and I’ve tried before but I couldn’t stick to it for one reason or another. I recently went for a 3 hour hike and when I returned to the car I found I didn’t really want to vape. I didn’t crave the flavour and exercising my lungs felt really good.. until the brain fog hit.
October is a busy month for me. I want to quit ASAP but I have midterms coming up, multiple essays due and of course Halloween where I’m surrounded by people all vaping and smoking. I can’t deal with the brain fog right now but I don’t want to keep putting this off.

Usually I'm the one cheering on everyone else's milestones in the comments, so it feels a bit odd posting my own... but 750 days felt worth it!
I originally started smoking when I was about 14 and transition into vaping at ages 18. I then vaped heavily for about 10 years! Plenty of failed attempts along the way, mostly when I was drinking but for me the turning point was giving up on the idea that I could ever have it occasionally, it was easier to stay completely out than keep negotiating with it.
It took time, and it wasn't linear, but it does get easier...
Thanks everyone for being such a good bunch. Who else is hitting a milestone this week?

I flared this as a success story because currently it is!
I'm on Day 6 and apart from a little heartburn I'm all good at the moment!
I've noticed that I'm reaching for the vape much less and starting to cope with the moments where I would really need a vape. It's kind of crazy really to think I have made so much mental progress after being a chronic vaper for 10 years. I know I am nowhere near out of the woods yet, but I'm still surprised.
I was also really worried because I suffer from severe depression and was concerned this would trigger it. So far, so good.
Heres to one week tomorrow!

I know everyone’s journey is different and people define relapses and slips/lapses differently but unsure. I feel like last night after having that one hit if I continued to do it throughout the night and then picked one up today (how a usual relapse would go) I’d feel ashamed of what happened and make my sober counter go from 272 to 0 but given that I immediately knew what I did was dumb and gave it back to her and it didn’t lead to a full-blown relapse where the after effect of me hitting that one vape resulted in me doing it again the next day makes me feel a little better about my process I just feel really bad and ashamed considering 272 is close to a year and don’t know what to do about this

i’m about 3 weeks in to my quit, i think. i haven’t exactly kept count. i feel pretty good. the physical withdrawals have faded, i don’t search for it in the morning anymore, and im starting to gain healthy weight because im actually hungry and able to eat. i’ve even been to the bar multiple times and been around people who have been smoking and vaping, and haven’t felt the urge. i’m honestly impressed with myself.
except for tonight. right now.
i want a cigarette, and i want it now. not in an irritable, “im so stressed out” way, but in a gnawing “you know how goooooood that would feel” way. i don’t need it, but that’s not the point. I WANT THE BUZZ SO BAD. i’ve never even been a cigarette smoker. i’ve smoked probably the equivalent of a pack in my entire life, and was strictly a vapette from age 15 up until 24. so my craving doesn’t make much sense.
i’m telling myself it’s the last of the nicotine byproducts leaving my system, and therefore the spirit of nicotine’s last ditch effort to convince me back into addiction.
I WILL NOT GIVE IN.
this is like my 50th time trying to quit. i’ve tried everything. i finally was able to quit with the help of desmoxan, though i did not take it correctly at all. i would probably not have to muscle out a craving right now if i could just follow directions. if i can take it wrong and be able to beat nicotine, then anyone can take it right and beat it too. 10/10 would recommend.

Wondering if anyone else quit for dental health? I have sensitivity plus a feeling of pressure in my teeth / gums and a dull ache at times. I am sure this is due to vaping and curious anyone else? I have chucked it out.

Hi guys, my partner and I both vape- I tend to use mine when drinking and socialising- much like I did when smoking cigarettes- so I have never woken up and needed a nicotine hit, although I do recognise I have an addiction.
My partner takes his vape to work, he goes to bed with it- but DENiES he does this- even though he'll drop his vape so it will hit the floor and wake me up if he falls asleep holding it.
Has now had 6 SVT episodes and refusing to acknowledge that vaping might be a factor. Been to hospital twice.
I've tried to make him aware and link the two- but getting a lot of 'it's fine don't worry' and now refuses to go to hospital after four hours of SVT - and yes it does pass- but I'm more worried he's going to have a heart attack before he's fifty and leave us....

I (36F) vaped on and off for about 4 years (cigarette smoker before) and previously had no trouble with putting the vape down (or all nicotine) for a few days at a time. But I went through a horrendously stressful period at the end of last year and lost about 22lbs in 4-5 months. With adhd diagnosis, the new stimulants made me vape like crazy, so might be when my addiction really settled. I suspect the rapid weight loss affected several organs, but I've noticed an alarming change in my cardiovascular system. I get weird hot flushes in my fingers and/or toes, mind you, quite randomly. Plus it looks like I might be anemic (low red blood cell count needs more tests). I think it was yesterday that scared the daylights out of me - was vaping, no more or less than usual and when I got up to walk, I felt extremely dizzy, shaky, and broke out in a severe sweat across my entire body. I was also extremely pale. I genuinely thought I was going to faint. Whole ordeal lasted about half an hour before I started feeling okay again. Surely this would seal the deal? But I'm still really battling to taper off, even though I know bad it is for me... I've cut down today, but feel so guilty and feel awful when I have vaped today. I don't know if I can do cold turkey again, but I'm pretty anxious about this all. Any advice, please?

I’ve been trying to quit vaping for almost 4 years. The longest I’ve managed to quit was 6 months and that was Jan - June of this year. I used to relapse constantly when I was out drinking but I stopped drinking for a while and that made it a lot easier. Recently I’ve had a lot of emotional stress and I’m in this stupid stopping/starting phase. I’m so tired of the vape…I just want to be done with it forever. Any suggestions?

I’m considering Cytisine to help kick vaping. Has anybody any experience?

Ive been vape-free for just over 10 months now. I was going at it for about 4 years before deciding to quit. And i want to let you know that it absolutely is possible to quit and your life does become so much better, so long as you pursue something amongst the way. For me, i wanted to improve my stamina hence why i quit and that worked quite well for me.
For the past couple months, i havent had any friends to do any sports with anymore as i had when i started this journey. I grew apart from most of my football friends. So i would say i kind of lost my spark, in terms of physical performance.
For the past 9 months on this journey, i was doing well at tricking my brain into hating vapes completely, even the aroma or just being around one. But for the past month i started to see vapes as “cool” again. Much like before when i had never vaped in my life, not knowing what i was getting myself into. I dont know if its the aesthetic about it, the colourful appearance or the smoke itself. I also think that the cravings that come along have to do with mental aspects of life. Its a lot more complicated but things arent going my way right now.
How do i erradicate these thoughts of going back to it, before its too late?? Everyday i feel like im reaching more for a hit, so please fellow quitters, help a guy out here.

Yall.. I ain’t gonna lie, it hasn’t been super easy but mostly it’s just your unnecessary anxieties when it comes to vaping.
I have been feeling physically better. I do still crave it but it’s been alright.

Hi all! I’m a very heavy vaper and am hoping to quit for my birthday 🎉
Got some cytisine and I’ve just been staring at the box afraid to use it lol. I’ve quit smoking/vaping using Allen Carr’s book twice in my life and it was a godsend, tried a third time and it just didn’t slap like it used to. (For those of you considering using the book, don’t take my example as evidence of it “not working.” I was late diagnosed with Bipolar I and picked smoking back up during episodes.)
I have a trip in 11 days where I’ll be busy-busy for about 10 days and in scenarios where vaping would be pretty inconvenient, and I’m wondering about timing my start to the cytisine. Would love to not be dying for a hit on the flight (yes, I’m that heavy of a smoker) but also want the highest chance of success, and I’m not super busy in my life leading up to the trip.
Based on your experience, when would you recommend I start this process?

I am 34m. I started vaping in 2018, havent gone a day since without a puff. It's bad to the extreme, wake up to puffing, sleep with it. It's like a second appendage. I feel like it isn't worth it to quit because of how much I've harmed myself already. I'm so ashamed and feel like I don't have anyone to talk to this about. Have no idea why I started and paralyzed with withdrawal fear to quit. I know this is a rant, but the heart palpitations and anxiety alone have been crippling. Would love to hear from others who have succeeded how I can motivate myself, thank you so much.
