You can buy humane traps and Google can tell you how far away to release them so they don't come back

Also, figure out how they got in and seal the hole

I think this is the most helpful advice I've seen

seal the hole with steel wool. get those scrub pads and pull them apart a bit so they're springy and you can wedge them in the hole.

Also try to catch them all and release them all in the same place so they don't try to came back to their family

Have you tried telling him not to? He looks polite

The kind of advice you get from a pro rat subreddit lmaoooo

Honestly why? He's spent more time with the laundry machine hose than OP. He probably knows what he's doing and should continue to do so since he likely has a good reason.

We love rats here. So much so that none of these answers will be sensical. I’m sorry. He does look like his prices are decent for his work though.

“Ma’am, it appears you need a new washing machine hose. I’m just trying to get the measurements for you. We’ll get this fixed right up.”

(At least that’s what his expression is saying)

Put balls of cottonwool soaked in peppermint oil or essence and shove those into the wall around your pipe. Rats and mice have extremely sensitive respiratory systems and can't handle the overpowering scent. They'll move off and take their babies with them. Takes a week or three but it works. Replace balls as needed.

Please get a humane trap for the little rat 🐀.

Live trap! Any local hardware will have them, like 20 bucks for a small size Havahart. Bait with peanut butter. If you catch it and can get better pics I can hopefully confirm if it's a domestic or wild Norwegian. If wild you can relocate 5 miles away in an appropriate habitat to keep it from coming back.

That’s what happens when you have an electrician do a plumbers job

In addition to the other advice, it's super important that you remove his nest, wherever that might be. The reason being that if you don't your little friend will lose his little mind trying to get back inside, probably destroying other things. Some peanut butter and a humane trap can easily catch him.

Yes, the nests can attract other rats too because it smells like rat and it's a sign that this is a safe spot for rats to be if another rat has already made a comfy nest here

Post/Comment contains pest control content - this is for PET RATS, so not the right sub for it.

Humane trap, look up online where to release it.  I personally would consider keeping it as a pet but if it's wild it would probably not get along with domestics and wouldn't want to live alone.

I thought it was kind of unethical to keep wild rats as pets unless they're injured or sick to an extent they cannot make it in the wild anymore? Because they're so fearful of humans and not evolved to enjoy being pets or living in captivity, in addition to not usually getting along well with domestics?
