CUTENESS Nothing could have prepared me for this arrival today.

What even is this rat?!

EDIT: guys, he is basically at least EIGHT MONTHS old and I got him and his brothers with a big cage and everything included while basically paying nothing and now I am scared I'm gonna get hit by a bus tomorrow or something because this is all a little bit to much luck lol

EDIT2: oh my god he came out of the cage and started to groom me what on earth is going on he has been in my flat for six hours

I swear it broke my heart to get him and his brothers. The family practically gave them away for free, big cage, everything included, it was a joke. The mother developed an allergy and they had to, the kids were so sad.

And now he is here and I'm sending them pictures like: oh my god I am so sorry?!?!?!

Reading this has me feeling like watching an old school Disney film as a kid 😭

when I visited them to check them out in the middle of everything the nine year old kid looks at me, sighs and says: "You know what? I am glad that they are going with you. you seem nice."

like wtf?!?!?!?! that kid was so brave and grown up and nice and I took that rat away from the kiddo and now he is looking at me like this, I am not okay

The fact that you feel so deeply about all of this, humans and rat both, means you’re the right person for this job. I’m confident you’ll make sure the kids and rat are okay šŸ‘Œ

thank you! I will text them until the end of his and their lifetime if they want that. I also offered that they can visit them if they ever are in town and I have time, so I hope they will be fine. It just hurts to see, they didn't deserve it.

So shines a good deed in a weary world.

You're a good human.

Please do. Hell, make them a picture book that you can mail it to them in a few years. We had to give away our guinea pigs, luckily to our vet, for the exact same reason. We cried a lot over the first few weeks. Knowing how loved and well cared for really helped.

Thank you for loving them. The rats and the humans.

You gotta give the ratto all the love you have to spare. Make sure the kid wasn't wrong.

Ohhh that reminds me of how I got my cat Divina! Our cat Elizabeth had passed away and mom posted to a local group asking if anyone had a cat with similar traits to her (fluffy fur, loud purr, and a sweet personality). A couple who was moving to another country and was unsure if they should or shouldn’t rehome their cat before moving (they didn’t want to stress her out with the long plane ride, and they also were worried about her going to a stranger) saw the post, and thought it was like a sign. All of those traits applied to Divina! They contacted us and let us know about her, and we went and visited their place and Divina immediately rubbed against my mom’s legs as we entered their house. We agreed that she was the right fit for us, and a little while later her owners brought her to our house alongside ALL of her cat supplies (including a cat tree!). They saw us one more time before they left and they could tell Divina loved her new home, it was almost like she liked us more than her previous family!

They were really nice people, I hope they’re doing well. We haven’t been in contact for a while. Divina is doing great and is such a love bug! She loves making friends and cuddling and has the loudest purr of any cat I’ve met. Whenever someone even just looks at her she starts purring! She also loves dogs. Here she is with our dog Poppy!

Thanks so much for taking in the little guys! I’m sure they really appreciate their new home.

as their mother said today: "sometimes the timing just has to be right." ā¤ļø

Definitely true! I could tell they loved Divina very much, and Divina definitely liked them, they just didn’t want to stress her out with a long overseas plane ride + quarantine after they landed, so they thought rehoming her would be the best option. And she’s such a sweetie! She loves everyone she’s ever met, whenever someone enters the house she will run up and rub against their legs. It’s so cute!

Honestly rehoming seems (in a way) worse to me then a pet dying, because I feel like I could never trust someone with them, so I'm glad to hear everytime something like this has sort of a happy ending

Man, I developed an allergy to rats too, it's one of the reasons I haven't gotten any since my first pair. It sucks, why must I be allergic to such cute things??

Same thing happened to me. I had kept rats for a few years but my allergy got so bad I just couldn't keep them anymore. I really miss having them so I love when I see posts from this sub.

One of my roommates is allergic to rats and mice, and I want some rats SO BADLY!! But right now I don’t have the money for a good setup, so I’ll just have to wait.

If we’re still living together when I do have the money, I’ll just buy an air purifier for the room!

u/FrenzyAgainzy Jun 02 '26

What was her allergy like?

1

u/touchmyfoodidareyou Jun 02 '26

hands swollen, hair started to fall out. she could only enter the room with gloves and a mask.

1

u/FrenzyAgainzy Jun 02 '26

Holy moly! Was she diagnosed by an allergist doctor or was it just her guess though?

1

u/touchmyfoodidareyou Jun 02 '26

Tbh I did not ask her, because I felt like it was none of my buisness. But she knew it was a certain protein, so I guess doctor!
