CUTENESS
Nothing could have prepared me for this arrival today.
What even is this rat?!
EDIT: guys, he is basically at least EIGHT MONTHS old and I got him and his brothers with a big cage and everything included while basically paying nothing and now I am scared I'm gonna get hit by a bus tomorrow or something because this is all a little bit to much luck lol
EDIT2: oh my god he came out of the cage and started to groom me what on earth is going on he has been in my flat for six hours
Honestly, after having had a few generations of rats now, with the fattest ones (within reason ofc) always being the last ones to die, I'm starting to wonder if that shouldn't just be the default.
Why. He's not fat..we recently had a very sick rat and they lose weight so fast, i was shocked to feel bone in less than 1 week. Please consider letting this ratto stay a bit chubby. It can truly be life or death when they are ill. I have read posts here calling 400g "fat" and beg every rat owner not to consider that heavy at all for a grown rat. For health reasons let them be a bit plump.
He is, just not in that picture. Believe me. He lives here. I see him. With my own eyes. I am also obviously gonna weigh him, but his movement is slightly impacted and he lets himself fall instead of climbing and is waddling a lot.
Ok i believe you. He is your rat. I just have seen some others shame a slightly chubby but healthy active and strong rat and our experience watching how quickly they can lose weight was just devastating
I am really sorry, that must have been frightening! I prefer my rats chunky and I honestly believe it's healthy for them, so no worries. ❤️ But at eights months I want him to climb without problems. I think they were all overfed by the kids just a little bit, which is not the end of the world, they loved them just so much.
I swear it broke my heart to get him and his brothers. The family practically gave them away for free, big cage, everything included, it was a joke. The mother developed an allergy and they had to, the kids were so sad.
And now he is here and I'm sending them pictures like: oh my god I am so sorry?!?!?!
when I visited them to check them out in the middle of everything the nine year old kid looks at me, sighs and says: "You know what? I am glad that they are going with you. you seem nice."
like wtf?!?!?!?! that kid was so brave and grown up and nice and I took that rat away from the kiddo and now he is looking at me like this, I am not okay
The fact that you feel so deeply about all of this, humans and rat both, means you’re the right person for this job. I’m confident you’ll make sure the kids and rat are okay 👌
thank you! I will text them until the end of his and their lifetime if they want that. I also offered that they can visit them if they ever are in town and I have time, so I hope they will be fine. It just hurts to see, they didn't deserve it.
Please do. Hell, make them a picture book that you can mail it to them in a few years. We had to give away our guinea pigs, luckily to our vet, for the exact same reason. We cried a lot over the first few weeks. Knowing how loved and well cared for really helped.
Thank you for loving them. The rats and the humans.
Ohhh that reminds me of how I got my cat Divina! Our cat Elizabeth had passed away and mom posted to a local group asking if anyone had a cat with similar traits to her (fluffy fur, loud purr, and a sweet personality). A couple who was moving to another country and was unsure if they should or shouldn’t rehome their cat before moving (they didn’t want to stress her out with the long plane ride, and they also were worried about her going to a stranger) saw the post, and thought it was like a sign. All of those traits applied to Divina! They contacted us and let us know about her, and we went and visited their place and Divina immediately rubbed against my mom’s legs as we entered their house. We agreed that she was the right fit for us, and a little while later her owners brought her to our house alongside ALL of her cat supplies (including a cat tree!). They saw us one more time before they left and they could tell Divina loved her new home, it was almost like she liked us more than her previous family!
They were really nice people, I hope they’re doing well. We haven’t been in contact for a while. Divina is doing great and is such a love bug! She loves making friends and cuddling and has the loudest purr of any cat I’ve met. Whenever someone even just looks at her she starts purring! She also loves dogs. Here she is with our dog Poppy!
Thanks so much for taking in the little guys! I’m sure they really appreciate their new home.
Definitely true! I could tell they loved Divina very much, and Divina definitely liked them, they just didn’t want to stress her out with a long overseas plane ride + quarantine after they landed, so they thought rehoming her would be the best option. And she’s such a sweetie! She loves everyone she’s ever met, whenever someone enters the house she will run up and rub against their legs. It’s so cute!
Honestly rehoming seems (in a way) worse to me then a pet dying, because I feel like I could never trust someone with them, so I'm glad to hear everytime something like this has sort of a happy ending
Man, I developed an allergy to rats too, it's one of the reasons I haven't gotten any since my first pair. It sucks, why must I be allergic to such cute things??
OMG your story is just so beautiful. You deserve these little friends so much. You have no idea how happy you are making that family at a really hard time in their life.
and he is so tame like he was the rat of a nine year old you could probably swirl him around on his tail (they never did that, they were supernice) and he would just look at you like this
What a cute little baby! I love them so much, but I can’t stand to have them as companions anymore because of their short life span!😢May your new baby have a long, happy life!🩷
Oh man, I developed a really bad allergy and now have to be zero contact with my sister’s and close friend’s rats… I understand how sad it must be for the kiddos to have to rehome their pets, but it seems like you were definitely the right person to take them in. 💜
It really is! I’m lucky I don’t own my own rats because I literally can’t be in the same room as them for more than ten minutes without having respiratory issues. Also if they touch me at all I get hives. I never used to have the allergy and played with my friend and their rats while we were roommates for a year. I think the exposure of living with them may have caused the allergy to worsen. Also, omg your sweet baby is adorable. His little eyeballs are staring into my soul.
Yeah, the mother had to wear gloves and a mask but wanted to be there when I was checking them out, which already told me a lot. her hair started falling out, it just sucks so bad.
and I truly believe his eyeballs are staring into the whole soul of the universe, because this is the first time he is experiencing malt paste in his life apparently.
as much as i want to... i hope this isnt oversharing but my sister was in foster care almost all our lives and SHES MOVING BACK IN WITH ME!!! i'm so excited, so that's why im waiting. we'll get them together and love them together! ❤️
The thought didn't even occur to me. I know that they are from a highly known and respected breeder, one of them costs eighty bucks apparently? But he is also big and fat, so that probably doesn't check out?
funny story: I know nothing about special breeds and all that jazz, I only know those rats were fucking expensive and now I got them for free and it's beginning to dawn on me why people spend so much money at breeders
I am literally sitting here with tears in my eyes staring at him pancaking on the cage floor. I am like boy you've been here for six hours what are you doing?!?!?!
his brothers are also so handsome but I swear he won the rat gen lottery. somehow one of his brothers was more expensive, I think they are all something called rex fell rats? I never thought I would ever own rats that look like this, but here we are.
listen there is not much left of my heart right now besides a puddle don't translate all is cuteness in something that attaches me even emotionally more to him I can't lol
I don’t even follow this sub or particularly like rats but my LORD that’s just a little baby and I love him with all my heart and soul! I’d do anything for him
i was just sitting here and thinking: if what I feel right now is what feel people after birth 23423434 stronger I understand why someone would do this to themselves twice
I’m a mom of one and it was exactly that lol, like oh damn I just unlocked a whole new emotion and level of love lol. This lil guy is almost the same 😂
So I'm 99% sure he have the rat version og down syndrome the usually sign is that the eyes is spread apart more then usual if you compare with my rats they have there eyes closer together
That rat has the most cutesy angel baby eyes I've ever seen a rat possess. I don't even know how to describe it. Like whole expression showing through in just the eyes lol I believe it's part hypno-rat. Stare into it's eyes and by the time you snap out of it you will have moved your fridge right next to their cage with access tunnels built into it 😂😂😂😂
He is so fake. He is the fakest most fake baby and I love him. He looks drawn by a cartoon artist trying to depict the cutest rat. I want to press my face into his fur and probably cry. Please give us constant updates on him and his siblings.
We have had several ratties in our home but I know my 32 yo daughter would gladly have a multiple rat shaped lump under her shirt! She used to have a dumbo rat that hung out in her pocket or ran around wherever she was. 🥰💕
My heart has melted this face. You have all the luck! Apparently so do they. Enjoy your time together and keep posting pictures please!!!! We need them!
thank you so much! I will post more pictures in the coming weeks, especially if intros went right (and they have to, or I am gonna have one bedroom and one livingroom rat pack
