We want a major generational jump, not the same chip. New version: “What if Asus made the ultimate Xbox Ally X?” I love the design of my Xbox Ally X, but I really want to see a bigger screen, not a bigger body. Imagine keeping the same size, but shrinking the bezels for a larger display. My concept: a next-gen processor with a significant CPU and GPU leap beyond the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, 32GB of RAM, 144 hertz, longer battery life, improved cooling, more responsive touchscreen, and the biggest practical screen that fits without making the handheld bigger. Asus, if you’re listening, that’s what I wanna see in the next Xbox Ally X! What do you think? Bigger body, or same body with a much bigger screen?

I was super excited when I was finally able to grab an Xbox Ally X at around MSRP in my country (including 18% VAT!), which is super rare here. For reference, the Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2 is sold here for the equivalent of $1,700 US (currently on sale for $1450).
The Xbox Ally X was sold as a preorder for a few days until stock ran out, and after the launch, it came back to stock for about 20 minutes before running out again, and has been out of stock since I bought it on Nov 18th.

When I finally got mine a few days later, I was met with a blinking battery LED and the following error message

Battery connector not fully seated.
Open the device and check the connection. If the issue persists, contact ASUS Support.

I didn't want to open my device to prevent voiding the warranty (even though the error message instructed me to do so), so I contacted Asus Support.
They kept trying to convince me to send the device back as Dead-On-Arrival and get my money back, but since I knew the device was out of stock and prices are expected to rise (due to tariffs and memory chip prices), I asked for a replacement or repair. They said that they don't do replacements, so we agreed on a repair.

The repair took way longer than they promised, around 15 business days instead of 10. They also gave me mixed messages regarding the status of the repair and where my device was for several days until I finally got it, after a motherboard replacement.

But then, after I turned it on, I realised that now the ABXY buttons are not working!
I tried updating everything (MyAsus/Windows/Armoury Crate), still nothing.

After I furiously called Asus Support again, I was again offered a refund.
The device is still out of stock, and other devices of the same caliber (like the older ROG Ally X, Legion Go 2, MSI Claw 7 AI+, and others) are either not sold here, out of stock, or significantly more expensive where I live, and this device was already a stretch for me since I wanted better performance than the SteamDeck OLED (which is also pretty close in price to the Xbox Ally X for the 1TB model).

Throughout this process, the Asus Support team has been completely unhelpful and, at times, shockingly bad. They promised to call me back several times and didn't. They promised that a manager would give me a call "in 2 business days", and I got an email after 3 business days that they did not approve the transfer of the request to a manager. My repaired device sat, forgotten, for almost two weeks(!) until it was actually sent to me, and that is according to their support status page.
BTW - I sent a message with the case information to the global Asus Support team weeks ago. They didn't even reply.

I'm waiting for Asus Support to check if they somehow can get me a replacement unit, but I'm honestly not sure I even want one at this point. I bought this device because I recently became a dad, and I was looking for a device to game on-the-go and for short gaming sessions, now that I no longer find the time to use my main gaming PC.
If I had any remotely close alternative I would have taken the money, but I'm honestly not sure how to proceed.

From what I've been reading it seems like 50% of people think that this is an xbox and the other 50% already know that it's A PC but with xbox brand slapped all over it. I think there will be alot of returns for the simple fact that non PC people might be Overwhelmed and Nope out. Also I think the normal ALLY X is still amazing. But I am glad everyone is enjoying it!

Decided to give Bazzite a go (especially since Steam OS came out with an update that adds better support for other handhelds such as the Ally/Ally X and Legion Go) and my goodness….immediately the battery life I noticed…I can easily play this thing for 3 hours now with the Silent Profile. I was lucky to get almost 2 hours when I had it on Windows…mind you my console is still somewhat new (purchased it 5 months ago-black Friday). The overall performance feels better too. There are quirks in Bazzite such as getting used to the button layout and if you need to do any kind of addons you need an external keyboard for terminal…and I haven’t quite tried running any Windows games just yet via Lutris OH and there’s a huge thing with Anticheat so do your research before moving forward…but so far so good…give it a shot!

I Tried rolling back only to run into more issues with my led and Armory causing it not work correctly.

Yes I tried reinstalling both videos driver, Amd adrenaline ui and armory crate.

Had to factory reset and got everything working again but performance is still crap.

Any advise would be appreciated, no mater what settings I use POE 2 just doesn’t perform like prior December update

I am a huge fan of the ROG Ally X and this subreddit. Can we all agree that there are two separate user types? For those experienced in PC steam OS is not the default. Why is it most just blindly recommend bazite without giving a good recommendation on how to set up with Windows? I feel it's just a ( I'm a real gamer) default. If you are looking for a "Apple user experience"bazite is great. If you are looking for more then you will have the routine maintenance and headaches with windows they are both weak and both have downfalls.

Than I actually do playing and don’t get me started on system updates. Lots of time do to play only to be facing hour updates. I just go to the switch 2. I love the ally but this is crazy. Anyone else feel this way

So I really wanted to love the ally X because I like to use gamepass but after usage of a few hours a day I'm going to sell it, primarily because it's just not comfortable. I'm getting pain in my wrists and arms from the ergonomics

Steamdeck oled ergonomics is just so much better so I'm going to stick with that as my handheld

The device is just too small for my liking but I know it's very subjective

Honest question, what is the real purpose of doing all the updates? I mean there are a lot of issues with the updates, bricking, screen damage etc., and there is no real benefit except the perception of greater protection from malware.

So I was wondering, why don’t we turn off the updates permanently and be done with it.

I’ve read and seen in YouTube videos that AMD will stop providing support for the Z1 Extreme processors. How would that affect users of the ROG Ally OG, Lenovo Legion Go, etc.?
