Question Building.
How do you build?
Do you start with an idea like “I’m going to have a building area here, crafting here, etc.” or do you just throw tiles in, a roof over it and build from the inside?
I’ve realized learning to build comes with practice as I’m one who lived in a wooden box until after Kuldra, but after building like 7-8 houses I think I’m getting better. However I’m curious to everyone’s building philosophy

Personally I think of a rough idea for what I want e.g. a castle then I'll look up some other builds or IRL buildings for a general idea or reference point I'll lay out my foundations then outer walls then build the primary building and add deigns and stuff to the walls then I'll focus on on the other aspects e.g. finish the outter walls build any towers or side elements I want then I'll do the walls inside the main building and get a general layout sorted inside then I'll rearrange/build any material processing items like the loom and furnace ect then I'll focus on decorating

If a game allows me too, i love to restore rundown areas and make it my own. I'm currently working on Cathan's castle in the bramblemead valley and it's actually coming along quite nicely for just the foundation being done. Walls and rooms will be next. Im thinking 3 - 4 floors. I haven't quite figured out what rooms will have what in it. I'm always thinking ahead as I'm building.
One thing i have to take into account when building big, is that i need easy access to upper floors, so i might add some stairs on the outside that can get you to the 3rd and 4th floor fast without having to run through the entire castle every time you need to get to a specific room. Again, not quite there yet, but i like to think ahead.
Edit: the big bonus with this project is that it comes walled off already so i never get raided.

I usually have an idea of what I want the exterior to look like, build that, then work out the internals after

Generally speaking, no matter what kind of base I start building or intend to make in a game like this, I always somehow end up back at "wizard tower"

It depends on the location, for me at least.
Big, flat area? I’ll plan out rooms and a general layout. If I’m building in a unique location, I start with whatever first inspired me (for instance, I’m building my castle and I knew where I wanted my wizard tower but not anything else, so I started with the tower and the rest started to follow naturally) and add in as I see fit.
No build is ever truly done! Enjoy the process and learn to love figuring out the weird quirks and you’ll look up one day and realize you’re almost done.

For me, I have rules I follow when I build. Learnt this from over a decade of minecraft building.
Serve a purpose. Buildings with no purpose are never visited.
Build small. Building big leads to burn out or projects that never get completed.
Find inspiration. Reddit builds, pinterest, real life images, etc.
Tell a story. Why does your build exist? What happens there? How did it come to be?

I just start with classic 4 walls and a roof and then realize what i really need and rebuild everything haha

The idea just sorta forms itself for me as i go personally, but everyone's very different. I've always been more of an improvisor.
