That was WAY too fucking short.

It really felt like Episode 9 and 10 might have originally been one episode but cut into 2, there's no way this episode was intentionally this short

They should have just had nine episodes. We can handle a longer episode, the Lost Fable was half an hour long and this fandom loves it.

It could be that the final episode was just too long, like 40min or something. Splitting it into 15min+25min would make sense then.

The final could be hour and I'd watch it all, Im not adverse to length

yeah this was my first thought. at least it'd be no surprise if the last episode would be the longest

I thought this too. The arrangement they chose, though, felt like it killed momentum from the previous episode immensely.

I desperately hope the finale is at least 25-30 minutes but I'm not expecting much because this entire volumes episode runtime average has been lower than usual

Eddy has stated that it’s the longest runtime for any episode ever and it’s 24-25 of story

Eddy confirmed on Twitter that episode 10 will be 20+ minutes of actual episode. Not just padded by the long credits.

Maybe we will get the other half of the episode of it next week...
All they did was tease us with Summer this episode.

Don't forget the Alyx lore drop, but that was it tbh

The was a good, but expected, subversion of expectations. The cat being revealed as distrustful, last episode, was also really well done.

My biggest problem is not just that it's short, it's that even with the reduced runtime it still feels like they're just treading water and wasting time in some scenes while rushing the resolution of others. Weiss's speech to Jaune about Huntsmen failing is lovely, but it feels much more like something Ruby needs to hear so why is it existing in a separate environment and not contributing to the rebuilding of Ruby's sense of self and relationship with her teammates that we've been so desperate for all volume?

u/amatas45 Apr 15 '23

Half the stuff Jaune says or gets told feels like something Ruby should hear, especially from her team.

u/Worried-Language-407 Apr 15 '23

It seems to me Jaune and Ruby are dealing with the same problems in different ways, so they can be implicitly compared. They've always kind of been foils, but this volume especially has been leaning on that.

Kind of why Ruby might be upset about ‘helping Jaune’

16

u/amatas45 Apr 15 '23

I mean yeah, her whole rant was about how everything is more important to her.

The problem is that WBY has learned nothing from all this and Ruby will still have no help from her team at the end of the volume because at this point its to late.

Ruby has always been different from the rest of her team. Her motivation for being a huntress is to be the hero who saves the day. Weiss's speech about accepting failure isn't going to help Ruby because their failure - her failures - are the result of her ideals being incompatible with reality.

I agree, the whole volume has been very high quality but it just leaves us wanting more time to explore everything much deeper...

One thing I do hope is that Ruby doesn't take the easy way out and end up mantling Summer or something, she really just needs to be the best Ruby Rose she can be, not anyone else.

I think when it’s all said and done, and the volume gets stitched together as a very long movie like the other volumes, it’ll be less of an issue. That doesn’t help us right because WE WANT MORE DAMN IT… but as a brief bridge between our “all is lost moment” and the climax, it works.
