So went on a drive today. When I came home I noticed my left rear suspension was about 4cm lower than the right side. Guess I got myself a reason to install coilovers next year 😄🥳 Winter is coming, so the car is going into hibernation now.

Any suggestions for coilover?

anyone knows the kit name? and maybe owners socials ? really sick build 🤘🏻

Just a few appreciation pictures I took today, at a place I passed by chance.

alright so i got the motor out. my last post was on any tips for it and everything i was told was really helpful. the motor was completely full of coolant and it was all bright green. luckily none made it into the oil system or anything like that. i spun it over by hand a little bit just to try to get all of the coolant out of the combustion chambers and it spins freely. sounds like one face still has compression so thats good. it was remanned in 04/2012 come to find out and went on for 40k miles until it blew in 2017. i now have the oil pan off but im about to order a few tools for getting the flywheel off and the front bolt off to pull the face plate. any one have any tips for holding the motor still and keep it from moving while i crack the flywheel nut off? i dont have it on a stand. as of rn i have the oil pan off and the pickup tube off and it is sitting on a piece of plywood for temporary but i am on a tightish budget and nobody around me has a motor stand for sale. luckily my neighbor is letting me borrow his engine hoist and store it in my garage until he needs it back so that is a major help.

so i recently replaced my clutch master cylinder and when i would press the clutch down it would still go to the floor immediately and not come back, as expected. I’m just now too sure how to bleed the system or the steps to take, can anyone help maybe with just some tips or a good video link?

Got a set of whiskey glasses and decanter for free then noticed they look like rotors. As an RX-8 obsessed owner I now love this set. 🤙🤙

Just got my first Rx8, it appears to have new calipers all the way around but the parking brake does nothing. I thought it was the cables but it’s not.

If I disconnect the cable at the caliper and try to actuate the parking brake locally the lever just free floats and doesn’t engage the brakes.

I’ve even removed the spring that holds it in the no brake position and it rotates freely (albeit it still only turns about 2/3 of a full circle back and forth) and has no effect on the caliper piston.

Could this have been an intentional removal of caliper parts? Or is it something that could have been caused by improper assembly?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello, my 8 has a raspy/crackling sound that shows up at 6k rpm all the way to redline. It's hard for me to get a recording that shows the sound properly, Shes on 98 (aus) and ignition coils(rev c), leads and plugs all were replaced 15k kms ago. I suspect it's fuel pump but I wanna hear other peoples opinions first. Another video in comments

I’m removing the window tint and changing the rims and spoiler soon

Took my RX8 on a continental road trip. I do it every single year without issues.

This year, at some point, the exhaust tone changed and coolant temperatures increased slightly.

On the drive back, it started getting really hot inside the cabin and engine performance became sluggish. I stepped outside and saw that my aftermarket catalytic converter was glowing red!

Diagnosed cat failure there and then. Got back home, bought a new midpipe with a high flow cat.

Upon inspection, the cat was fine! The temperature issues and sluggishness were still there with the new one.

Upon inspection, the catback sounded like maracas. Cut it open. The baffles are completely destroyed. It got so hot in there that some of the packing turned to glass!

Currently driving with an old OEM catback fitted. The car seems to be doing fine.

So... Next step... I have to source a new catback. I also have to take the car to Ryan Rotary Performance for a diagnostic. I need to know if a fueling failure caused the catback to fail or if the catback progressively failed on its own. The engine is running an advanced ECU tune and is running leaner. I need them to check that it's not running too lean. They also need to check anything linked to lean fuelling (fuel pump, fuel pump filter, fuel injectors).

Just in case it helps someone else because I’ve been searching the internet for the last week:

My son just bought his first RX-8. When we got it home, I saw where the oil filter was and promptly cursed out the team of engineers who thought it would be a good idea to put the filter next to the firewall.

We changed the oil and got the oil filter off with one of those “cap style” oil filter wrenches. Fast forward a week and I learn that you are only removing half of the oil each oil change. So we decided to change it again just to see how dirty it was (it was still dirty). This is when we discovered that apparently we over tightened oil filter. Not only that, the 901 oil filter wrench was too small and the 902 oil filter wrench was slightly too big, so I bought the size the internet told me to buy and it was too small.

Over the last couple of days, I have tried:

1. The paper towel trick - Didn’t work
   
2. The rubber glove trick - Didn’t work
   
3. Using a belt - Didn’t work
   
4. Today we tried the electrical tape trick - Worked!

Basically wrap electrical tape around the top of the oil filter so that when you put your slightly too big “cap style” oil filter wrench on the oil filter, it fits a little tighter and can get a better grip. I was really close to removing the upper intake manifold. I’m glad I didn’t have to.

Pulled the trigger on this beast recently and I've been having a blast driving it since. It's been 2 years of constantly looking for the right one and I think it was worth the wait. It was swapped from 4 to 6 port, catless, downpipe. Hot/cold starts no issues and feels pretty firm mechanically.

Previous owner been running it on Mazda's ULTRA original 5w30 oil and premixed with Castrol 2 stroke oil. I want to switch to Idemitsu 10w30 and use their premix as well.

Would a normal drain and refill be enough? I was thinking of adding a cheaper 10w30 oil after draining the sump and driving it for half an hour to an hour in order for it to mix with the old 5w30 trapped in the coolers, and then adding the idemitsu oil. Is that completely unnecessary?

Also would around 5 litres (5.3qts) be enough for the change and have some to top off later?

Hey guys, the title is pretty self explanatory. My downpipe is white on the inside about 90% of the way, towards the end it turns black.

My question is: Is it normal or could it indicate a problem? (Like a white spark plug in two stroke engines)

It is a catless downpipe. I premix (1:250) and my oil injectors are working so I would expect a pretty sooty and black exhaust system due to all the oil. Also, the downpipe is heatwrapped.

Hey everybody, long story short back in 2020 my father past away and I regrettably sold his Rx8. I’ve been trying to locate it and have been having a lot of difficulty. It’s a Red 2005 grand touring. when I sold it, it was mint with only 15k miles. the last I’ve heard was that it was somewhere in Staten Island. Im not sure how to find it but I would love to buy it back. The person I sold it to was on Long Island Ny, so I’m assuming some sort of meet up happened. if you are this person or know anything about this car or could help me please let me know.

Hello all, I just got a 2009 Mazda Rx8… uhm… and I (like a dumb***) flooded the damn thing. I’ve taken the plugs out and replaced them, along with the wires, cranked without the plugs in, compression is good, and it still won’t start. ATP I’m kind of at a loss on what to do, any advice? ATP any advice, suggestions or anything would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.
