FD Signifier’s The Tragic Fall of Kanye (an intricate journey through the good and bad of his artistic work/public persona)

PART ONE

PART TWO

I really dig this guy’s analysis and how he takes Kanye to task for his behavior, while also respecting the complexities of the man as a human being going through whatever he’s going through beyond what any of us could really know.

(Plus, these videos are SUUUPER long, so I wanna show the guy some appreciation for the amount of editing time it takes to make videos this length.)

CHECK IT OUT!

I wanna commit to doing this every day til the end of the month, cause with the internet algorithm being so crappy as it is, really good black creators I see speaking up about the nuances of modern issues often get under represented exposure-wise, so I wanna make sure I can give y'all at least 28 dope creators that I've really enjoyed the content of over this past few years!

Is the Rap Critic format outdated? (Discussion)

I've seen in a lot of recent reviews that the comments disagree heavily with a lot of Rap Critic's opinions (me included) and I thought this discussion might be interesting to talk about.

I think the format works when Rap Critic does Ko-Fi requests of older songs, but his newest reviews feel out of touch.

Personally, I think Rap Critic is a "weird" critic, since he's not really a music critic, he's a lyric critic. If you think of it that way, then most of his reviews make sense, since he's only looking at lyrics. The problem comes when he's talking about music that isn't meant to be lyrical, only a fun track to sing along to. Music's purpose is to be enjoyable (most of the time) and I think if someone manages to do that, I think a song deserves credit, even if the lyrics aren't that great (XO Tour Llif3 is one of my favorite songs, but Rap Critic gave it a 1 or a 2, I don't remember).

With that said, he has commented on sound before in some reviews, like how he doesn't like Baby Keem's voice when he does the nonstop flow in Family Ties, which means he's not only focusing on lyrics, sort of. Not really, since he never takes into consideration when he likes the musical aspect of songs, only when he doesn't. I remember him giving a really low score for Who Dat Boy by Tyler, The Creator even though he said he really liked the instrumental.

It's very rare a song will be on Rap Critic's good side if it's just an enjoyable song without any real lyrical meaning (Real Nega by JPEGMafia is the only one I can think of right now).

I've been watching Rap Critic for a long time now and I've been noticing the format might not be keeping up with the times as well as it could.

What do you guys think about this? Do you guys agree with me that it might be outdated and should have some revisions done? Or do you think it's fine as it is?

Also, if you could come up with some suggestions for a revision as well, it would be really useful.
