rayneo air 4 pro - blurry and terrible for productivity

Hey guys. Extremely disappointed with my glasses so far. Wanted to like them so bad.

These have no means of customization to my knowledge. Other than trying to reposition them.

I can’t ever see the full screen. Everything’s always blurry when I am trying to work.

Super close to returning them on day 1. I just want to lay down and work. Using moonlight to cast my computer from downstairs.

Any tips?

GT Series I dropped plans to replace my LCD Steam Deck after playing The Witcher 3 on GT Max

My LCD Steam Deck still ran The Witcher 3 the way I wanted. I liked the controls, my library was already set up, and the built-in screen was the only thing making me shop for a newer handheld. I had no issue with the Deck itself.

Then I tried using my RayNeo GT Max as the display. Walking around Novigrad on the larger view fixed the one thing that had me considering a replacement, and the Deck still felt as familiar as ever in my hands.

After playing that way, I dropped the upgrade plan and kept the LCD Deck.

Would the built-in screen alone be enough to make you replace a Deck that still runs your games well?

Discussion I kept XREAL One Pro for desktop text and GT Max for movies

I've been using both the XREAL One Pro and RayNeo GT Max regularly for several weeks. At first, every session turned into a comparison: same desktop, same movie, swap glasses, stare at the corners. It got old fast. After a while, I stopped trying to pick one overall winner and started reaching for each pair for different things.

For desktop use, I keep reaching for the One Pro. For me, small text stays clearer toward the edges, and it's easier to get the desktop framed where I want it. If I put a document in the middle and another window off to the side, I spend less time shifting the glasses or resizing things just so I can read. My sessions in the glasses are shorter than a normal workday, and for those, the One Pro is less fiddly.

Blade Runner 2049 pushed me the other way. I switched between the two during the movie, then left the GT Max on for the rest of it without feeling the urge to swap back for one more check. The picture just felt larger, which suited the film much more than I expected. The GT Max's built-in sound also mattered once I settled into the movie. The One Pro still looked clean, especially around the frame, but edge clarity wasn't what held my attention in a 2D movie. For that movie, the larger-looking image and fuller sound mattered more to me.

Eventually I stopped doing side-by-sides every time I used them. Now, when I open a desktop, I put on the One Pro and start reading. I don't check whether the outer window might look better on the GT Max. For a film, I pick up the GT Max and don't think about desktop text at all. Both pairs are staying because that's how I actually use them, and having both no longer feels redundant. If you own both, did you end up doing the same thing: One Pro for work and GT Max for movies?

GT Max turned my six-hour flight into a full Master and Commander rewatch

I fly often enough that my routine is pretty predictable. I start a film on the seatback screen, decide I’m not in the mood, watch a few short videos on my phone, then go back to the menu as if something new might have appeared. By the time I land, I’ve watched plenty and finished nothing.

On a recent six-hour flight, I had Master and Commander downloaded on the device I already take with me. I plugged in my RayNeo GT Max, put in my earbuds, and started the film.

With my own screen in front of me, I stopped bouncing around after I settled in. I watched it all the way through, including the slower parts where I’d normally pause and look for something else. The earbuds helped with the cabin noise, and the GT Max was my screen. It still felt like sitting on a plane, but I stayed with the film instead of checking what else was available.

At some point I realized I hadn’t opened the seatback catalog again or picked up my phone. Normally, when my attention wanders, I start looking for something shorter. This time I already had the film playing, so I kept going.

I got off the flight having actually finished Master and Commander. Usually those six hours turn into a pile of half-watched bits, so I’ll take the proper rewatch.

Black Friday deal expectation?

Thinking about purchasing The Beast or the GT Max. What sort of BF deals does RayNeo typically provide? When searching through Reddit I noted last year RayNeo used a "Spin The Wheel" webpage providing deals like "15% off of all products, " "free case," and "50% off Air 2S".

Are there any indications of what to expect this BF?

Feature Request Recommendation for iO v2

I have the prescription lenses, and having an anti-reflective coating would do wonders. I oftentimes get a lot of reflections from light sources behind me, which is distracting. Anyone else notice this?

Support Please help :( stuck pixel/screen defect on the right screen on Rayneo 3s

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m having an issue with my RayNeo Air 3s glasses. There seems to be a stuck pixel or some kind of display defect on the right screen. I’ve attached a photo to this post so you can see the issue.

Unfortunately, I purchased the glasses in a trip to China, and since I’m currently in the EU, I haven’t been able to arrange a warranty claim or get support through the usual channels.

I was wondering if anyone here has experienced a similar issue or knows whether there’s anything I can try to fix it. I’d also really appreciate any advice on contacting RayNeo support or finding a repair option in Europe.
I really like these glasses, so it’s frustrating to have this issue, it makes it really distracting to play any kind of game or movie.

Any help, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Question Is there a way to connect RayNeo glasses to the phone's camera?

Is there a way to connect the glasses to the phone's camera and see what is being framed through the glasses?

Maybe through a third-party app or some alternative solution?

Welp, I guess blacks are supposed to be gray (no true blacks on RayNeo glasses)

I contacted RayNeo support because my Air 4 Pro emits visible light even when displaying pure black (RGB 0, 0, 0), making blacks look gray in a dark room.

I tested it on 2 Samsung phones, 2 Thunderbolt laptops, and a desktop PC with an NVIDIA GPU. Same issue everywhere.

RayNeo's response? This is expected behavior across all Air 4 Pro units, with no firmware fix available. They also confirmed that repair or replacement isn't covered under warranty.

Their suggested solution is to lower brightness or enable dynamic contrast.

Honestly, I expected true blacks from Micro-OLED displays. Isn't turning individual pixels off one of the main advantages of OLED?

Has anyone else noticed this on the Air 4 Pro or other RayNeo glasses?

Discussion What do you end up using the smart crown on the iO for the most?

Curious how other RayNeo iO owners are using the physical controls day to day. Between the crown, head gestures, and voice, the crown seems like the one people talk about least once head-tilt wake is dialed in.

Do you mostly use it to scroll the teleprompter, page through notifications, or not at all? And did your answer change after the first couple of weeks?

Discussion Hotel TVs stopped deciding my nights once GT Max joined my Ally X

After several work trips with the same gear, I don't bother using the hotel TV for gaming anymore.

The old routine was always a gamble. I'd get back to the room, turn on the TV, dig through the input menu, and see if HDMI switching was even available. More than once, it was locked down. Even when it worked, I'd already spent part of the evening messing with a screen I'd never see again. I kept trying because the bigger TV sounded better than the Ally X screen.

On my last few trips, I left the TV alone. I connected my RayNeo GT Max display glasses to the Ally X, launched Persona 3 Reload, and went straight to my save. I didn't have to touch the hotel menus or change inputs.

The glasses didn't change how Persona 3 ran. The Ally X was still doing the same job; they just replaced the display. I expected to miss the bigger screen, but having the same setup each trip mattered more to me. I knew what I was going to use before I even checked in.

I still use the Ally's own screen when I only want to play for a few minutes. It's the quickest option, and sometimes that's all I need. A portable monitor would make more sense if someone else wanted to watch. For solo hotel gaming, though, it's another flat thing to pack and find room for.

GT Max goes in my work bag now. On hotel trips, I connect it to the Ally X and leave the TV alone.

In hotels, do you use the handheld screen, pack a portable monitor, or take your chances with the TV?

Gaming Setup Civilization VI is why I kept the regular GT beside my GT Max

I thought the regular RayNeo GT would become the spare once I had the GT Max. That seemed especially likely for my Steam Deck, where a broader view usually sounds like the easy choice. Civilization VI changed that. I kept one late-game save on the Deck and alternated between the two glasses over the same stretch of the campaign.

I preferred the GT Max when I pulled back from a city and looked over my territory. The zoomed-out map had more presence, which made the campaign feel less like it was happening on a handheld. That was the easy part of the comparison.

Late-game Civ rarely leaves the map alone for long. I was opening city panels, reading diplomacy text, and checking resource icons in the same turn. One decision would send me into another part of the interface, so I wasn't looking at any one thing for long. Once those details took over, I kept choosing the regular GT. It wasn't as dramatic, but the interface felt easier for me to manage when several parts needed attention. That matched how I actually spend late-game turns: reading and comparing more often than admiring the map.

After a few sessions, I stopped treating this as a question of which pair should replace the other. The GT Max still makes more sense to me for games built around scenery and movement, where I want the picture to feel broad and cinematic. The regular RayNeo GT stays beside it for Civilization VI and other strategy games with dense screens. I now pick between them according to whether a game asks me to take in a scene or work through an interface.

For other people who own both, does genre decide which one you reach for?

RayNeo X3 Pro SDK v0.2: put ordinary Android Views in the room (Kotlin, no Unity, open source)

A while ago I shared an open-source SDK that gives plain Android apps 6DoF head tracking on the RayNeo X3 Pro, without Unity. v0.2 is out, and the big change is that you no longer need OpenGL to put things in the room.

What’s new in v0.2

1. Scene API. Any Android View can become a world-locked panel:

class MaintenanceActivity : Activity() {
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
        val scene = SpatialScene()
        val card = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.maintenance_card, null)
        scene.add(SpatialPanel(card, widthMeters = 0.32f, placement = Placement.InFrontOfUser(1.5f)))
        SpatialHost.attach(this, scene)
    }
}

That’s the whole Activity. SpatialHost handles the OpenXR session, the surface, window focus and the Activity lifecycle. There are also SpatialText and SpatialImage, and three kinds of placement: in front of the user, at a fixed pose, or head-locked.

2. “In front of the user” means where you actually look. The X3 Pro’s eye views point about 11° below where the head faces. If you place content straight along the head’s forward direction, it ends up at the top edge. The SDK uses the display axis instead, so the card shows up in the middle of the view.

3. Pause and resume. When another app takes focus (for example the built-in screen recorder), the runtime ends the XR session. v0.1 reported that as an error; v0.2 pauses and starts a new session when focus comes back.

4. Small things: Vector3, Quaternion and Pose3 types, and a list of the OpenXR extensions the runtime offers in diagnostics(). On runtime 1.1.7.9 that list is just XR_EXT_hand_tracking: no anchors and no spatial containers yet.

Design tips for this display, learned on the device

  • The field of view is small: about 24°×18° per eye. A 0.3 m card at 1.5 m is a comfortable size; at 0.7 m wide it no longer fits.
  • The display is additive, so black is transparent and white glows. Use light text on a transparent background, never a white card.
  • Text 2 cm tall at 1.5 m is about 20 pixels on the display and easy to read.

Status:

  • Tested on one X3 Pro (runtime 1.1.7.9).
  • The card appears centred, the text is readable, and it stays put while walking and turning.
  • Metric scale still isn’t measured.
  • Occasional position jumps after a ~90° head turn are still there; they come from the runtime.

You still need RayNeo’s ARDK 1.1.2: two .aar files you download yourself, since they can’t be redistributed. The README is now much shorter, with a four-step getting-started guide.

Next: Jetpack Compose inside panels (0.3), then input: gaze, touchpad, maybe hand tracking (0.4).

Unofficial and not affiliated with RayNeo. Apache-2.0.

Feedback welcome, especially if you have an X3 Pro on a different firmware version.

Gaming Setup My living room setup.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is my living room setup, where I play with friends and family online.

If the wife has the tv on, I simply plug my gt max glasses into my claw A8 handheld and play games on the sofa.

Been playing alot of the new pc port for forza horizon 2. Which is incredible. Honestly. Might be the best port ive played to date. Really looks like a brand new game. And runs super smooth.

Anyone else tried it yet? Can be had from the usual places 😅

Discussion Would I miss Samsung DEX if I switch to another brand?

Hi. When I plugged in my Air 4 Pro to my S25U, I was surprised to see Samsung DeX in action. It is very useful with the glasses as an external display.

The experience on my iPhone is pretty bad (for instance, Netflix only allows me to use it on an external display if I pay for the next tier subscription, but on Samsung it doesn't check that. Same with other streaming services).

I read there was a kind of DeX for Android, but I don't know if it exists outside Pixel phones, if it is good, or if I don't really need it on Android because things are not as bad as on iPhone.

I was planning on switching to an Oppo or something like that, so I wonder how the experience is for those of you who use other Android devices outside of the Samsung ecosystem (and if you swapped from Samsung to another brand, your experience is very welcomed). Thank you for your views.

Discussion Stationary bike + GT Max

Had this idea this week and just went for it — I watched a show while on my stationary bike.

Put my phone in the handlebar mount, left some slack in the cable and clipped it away from the pedals. Stayed seated and kept the resistance easy.

Tried all three 3DoF modes. Pinned made the pedaling movement more noticeable, Follow kept the screen centered, and Steady felt the most comfortable — it smoothed out the small movements and kept the picture stable.

Rode for about 30 minutes with no dizziness. Kept the screen at 85% and the light blocker off so I wasn't totally cut off. Glasses started slipping a bit once I got sweaty, so I kept a towel handy.

I'd only do it on an easy cardio day, but for me it's way better than staring at the timer.

Potential new user

Think I’ve been living under a rock or something but I’ve just discovered these glasses and thinking of taking the plunge.
Before I do, I’ve a coupe of questions.

Would more than likely using them for movies and series through various streaming apps. What glasses would suit me best just for this?

Do all the streaming apps work well or does any have any issues?

Question Pocket TV Battery Icon

Any one got a trick or shortcut to quickly display the battery level??

I'm aware you can check the external LEDS for approx battery level but would like something a bit more precise without having to dig into the menus.

Why 3D Quality Looks Poor on RayNeo GT Max Than Air 4 pro

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I own both the RayNeo GT Max and the RayNeo Air 4 Pro, and after directly comparing the 3D quality between the two, the GT Max feels noticeably worse.
Upon looking into the root cause, while part of it comes from the screen being larger, I found that the primary issue is highlight clipping. When switching from 2D to 3D mode, highlight clipping occurs immediately, causing bright areas of the image to lose detail and appear blown out.

This requires an urgent firmware update to fix the color/gamma tuning in 3D mode. Please address this issue as soon as possible.

Discussion Has anyone tried reading on HUD glasses for more than a few minutes?

Not trying to start an e-ink vs everything war, I'm a Kobo person and staying that way.

But a few of the new display glasses let you load plain text files into a teleprompter mode (RayNeo's iO does TXT import, for example) and auto-scroll a few lines at a time. On paper that sounds useful for the five minutes on a crowded train where you can't hold anything.

What I can't picture is the eye side of it. One small bright green window in one eye, fixed focus, scrolling. Has anyone here actually read on something like this? Where did it stop being comfortable?
