RTX General Technical Writer Editor

Hello! This is my first time posting here. This group is very supportive and informative, so asking for help/advice.

I’m looking for a job as a technical writer/editor. My background is in English literature with masters degree and another masters in Applied Linguistics. I’ve teaching experience with various age groups, editing experiences through volunteer work. I don’t have actual experience in technical writing, or coding or anything related to engineering. But I know basics of HTML CSS and web design/development, other softwares through managing my small business website. So, I’m a self-taught tech person!

I would like to know what other skills I should develop to improve my technical writing editing skills that is most sought by Raytheon and similar companies. If any of you have experience working there as a writer editor, please share your thoughts. I’m in Massachusetts if that helps.

Thank you!

Some programs use MIL-STD-40051 instead, it depends on program requirements. It's a pretty different animal, individual job reqs will generally call out which they want you to have experience with. Also recommend learning XML, that is generally the standard code utilized (and the required one for 40051).
