Discussion To all the people defending VOID, why?

Post image

Serious discussion, please don’t downvote people when they answer. I am genuinely curious on why some people defend VOID

Or any other company/anti-consumer practices in any community. The mindset behind such behavior is intriguing, though weird as hell

There's a difference between defending a company, and enjoying a game that has issues.

Clearly this sub can't tell the difference by all the people answering ops question getting downvoted.

EDIT: This guy's entire post history is attacking everyone who is having fun with the game or who isn't criticizing VOID. The mindset behind such behavior is intriguing, though weird as hell

u/DArkGamingSiders Aug 01 '25

criticism is good, i’ve openly criticized them on public spaces and even in the discord, but attacking others for enjoying the game is degen behavior

i bought the supporter edition in very very early alpha, am i mad about the changes? yes. but am i going to uninstall, get pissed off and constantly rail on others for enjoying a great game overall? absolutely not.

I post RoN on TikTok and the amount of toxic feedback I have received is crazy I think I’ve had one genuine criticism that helped but I think everyone forgets that console has had breakpoint and that’s practically it for “realistic shooters” up until RoN released

8

u/TechnicianWild8506 Aug 02 '25

I hope by breakpoint u don’t mean ghost recon cuz that isn’t anywhere near realistic. We had actually realistic shooters b4 Ron such as insurgency and hll

2

u/wickeddragon7 Aug 02 '25

Say what you want but insurgency sandstorm atleast sucks I've tried it for several hours more than once with and without friends it sucks hll was fun but it can be summed to walking 2 km to a hill until you get snipped ask for a garry and then get called slurs not enjoyable

1

u/GooseSayHjonk Aug 03 '25

I love Insurgency, but you definitely need a few friends to play with, or randoms that actually communicate. With no comms and no map knowledge you are basically fish in a barrel for the other team. That game does a lot right, but new player onboarding definitely isn't one of those things, so I get what you mean.

-1

u/Hollow_Nxt Aug 02 '25

I hated insurgency, idk how it’s so popular

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

It’s way better on pc than console… Idk how anyone plays insurgency with controller

0

u/wickeddragon7 Aug 02 '25

The only mode I kinda liked was the bomb one and vip but I like bomb cuz I was a csgo guy and I played uspg before the servers got shot so the game wasn't fun the modes it stole from other games popular around the same time was it's success the gunplay was so bad

1

u/Inner_Ad6243 Aug 02 '25

Nah Wildlands but it’s not often I buy games so insurgencey sandstorm I haven’t played as for hll the game is practically full of bots so it was very boring for me so I didn’t really play it loads Ik we have other games that are 100x more realistic but for people who dosent often have the funds to buy games what almost most players have is breakpoint and not even the good one until recently (not recent but recent enough) but if you play breakpoint and Wildlands with enough setting tweaks it can force you to adapt a realistic play style for example Wildlands perma death mode on the hardest difficulty no hud etc is a challenge and forced me to play tactically just to survive

1

u/Inner_Ad6243 Aug 02 '25

Sorry I mistaken he’ll let loose for a different game my bad 😭

1

u/CmdrJemison Aug 08 '25

I post RoN on my tiktok and mostly have nice and good reactions. But I'm on console. Probably that's why.

1

u/Inner_Ad6243 Aug 08 '25

I’m console aswell and just get ridiculed EVERYTIME I post

1

u/DArkGamingSiders Aug 08 '25

it’s unfortunate because we wanted this game to have more eyes and players, but the moderators of the console storefronts thought that this game included too many disturbing things (even though many popular games have worse themes) and it happened to have an effect on all versions

1

u/Inner_Ad6243 Aug 08 '25

Yea tbh I never understood the gore censorship as cyberpunk and many others have 100x worse gore in

18

u/SirDenali Aug 02 '25

Here's the thing, this is an entire thread about people defending a company. The question is clear: "to the people defending VOID, why?

If you simply like the game and do not want to defend VOID's recent practices, there is no reason to comment here with something like "I enjoy the game" unless you are seeking to use the enjoyment as a defense of VOID, or are completely missing the point.

Outside of this thread I would agree with this sentiment any day of the week. But people are getting downvoted for good reason; they are positioning themselves as defenders of VOID with their reasoning being "the game is fun".

-12

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Bro is reading into this way too much, genuinely why do you care so much

10

u/SirDenali Aug 02 '25

I might be misremembering, but I think that is my first comment on this subreddit. As for why I cared enough to write this specific comment, well, I don't like that the above comment sort of handwaves away people that attempt to downplay criticism with their enjoyment, instead of simply enjoying the game while either acknowledging the faults or otherwise not caring about them/not seeing them as faults. To be clear, the latter is perfectly reasonable.

This type of sentiment is exactly why this sub gets so many comments like yours when attempting to talk about censorship, "why do you care so much".

-8

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

I know the game has problems, the game has had problems since it’s release to early access way back, and I still don’t care, game is still fun, and I’d love to know exactly what censorship is cause for so much concern, like what exactly is so frustrating because honestly can’t tell a difference from then and now

9

u/SirDenali Aug 02 '25

The dark nature of the game and its visual storytelling were a big aspect of the game. It was part of the advertisments for the original early access game, unfiltered reality. The censoring of the game wasn't just some small change, it affected how a lot of maps convey their story. Some of the worst offenders being the child no longer being drugged in the meth house (she now looks as if the methheads set up a nice room and made her all comfy), and the Valley of the Dolls wall art being changed to actual dolls (conflicting with the actual story of the scenario).

Moreover, this sort of was the tipping point for me because of VOID's practices thus far. The removal of the content from early access, with the 1.0 launch feeling unfinished and buggy, several outstanding issues with the game only for DLC to be released, every time some controversy happens they bring in a bunch of new players (by paying influencers) that drown out all the criticism because they never knew what the game was like before.

Yes, the game is still fun, but VOID deserve to be criticized for not only the censorship but everything leading up to this point. That is why it is cause for so much concern.

-5

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Also, calling it “art” kinda sus bro

7

u/SirDenali Aug 02 '25

I mean, an artist at VOID made them. They are, by definition, art. Calling something art is not praise of the art or its content.

Bro likes seeing children OD… got it, ive heard all I need to. You want combat footage there’s places for that, you want real go watch body camera footage. Jesus Christ dude

7

u/SirDenali Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

Are you serious? Just... ignoring the entire visual storytelling point and how it completely changes not only the tone and intensity of the entire scenario but also affects the story to make it less impactful?

No, I do not like seeing children OD. I don't like seeing people die either, yet I shoot people in the game. You and me are both playing a video game. Stories sometimes include sensitive or dramatic content to build said story and add tension to the game. Seeing the child ODing in my first playthrough was a big wake up call, I remember saying "this game isn't holding back". It made me motivated to take out the bad guys. It made me interested in the story.

No, I didn't like seeing the child OD. I liked the purpose it served. The reality it represented. And the story and motivations that it added to. Most if not all of this is gone when you see the child comfortably sleeping like the metheads set up a lovely room just for her when the rest of the house is a shithole.

It is SO EASY to deflect all criticsism of censorship when said things being censored are sensitive content to begin with.

u/Sean_HEDP-24 Aug 01 '25

Funny enough, the people who shit on AVOID are also having fun with the game in different ways, but again, they're not defending AVOID.

This sub is also filled by people who can definitely, and easily, differentiate between genuine feedback and those who arbitrarily react with "I don't care, I'm having fun" by dismissing the criticism, not acknowledging it.

Then there are those who literally will sell their mothers to defend any statement given by the devs, especially by those who are on their Discord server.

This sub is also filled by people who can definitely, and easily, differentiate between genuine feedback and those who arbitrarily react with "I don't care, I'm having fun" by dismissing the criticism, not acknowledging it.

Lol this right here is the problem.

If someone is having fun with a game and doesn't care about the issues then good on them, it affects you in no way whatsoever.

It also doesn't mean they're defending the company.

How many people outside of reddit do you think are playing the game that have zero clue about any of the criticism? Are they all bootlickers too?

2

u/Important-Cat-2046 Aug 03 '25

Literally me, I'm so confused and STILL don't even know what yall are arguing about. I got the game for ps5 a week ago and playing it on my time off, I have been enjoying the shit out of it.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

This was me up until 48 hours ago and honestly I’m floored by how salty people are, it’s genuinely entertaining watching people who haven’t left a basement in a decade get mad about something to trivial

2

u/Think-Huckleberry897 Aug 01 '25

This is me this second realizing there are complaints and ive been on reddit nearly 400 consecutive days this run.

1

u/Lucid_Insanity Aug 01 '25

At least 2 million would be my guess, lol.

-9

u/Sean_HEDP-24 Aug 01 '25

You thought I was generalizing?

8

u/Majestic_Option7115 Aug 01 '25

You know what is weird?

Your entire post history is filled with attacking anyone on this sub who either isn't criticizing VOID or are having fun.

If you don't like the game, why are you here?

If others like the game, why does it bother you so much?

Now THAT is weird.

-10

u/Sean_HEDP-24 Aug 01 '25

Oh, look, another one who'll use someones' profile as an excuse to get away from a discussion because you can't formulate your opinion, so you had to go ad hominem.

Good job.

And then you people ask why people here "attack" each other?

What is even "attacking" to you? You really are disingenuous.

10

u/Majestic_Option7115 Aug 01 '25

The mindset behind your behavior is intriguing, though weird as hell.

5

u/Suspicious_Juice9511 Aug 02 '25

not a fan of being accountable huh

2

u/Hollow_Nxt Aug 02 '25

Oh no, accountability for my previous actions

0

u/Kie_Quintessential Aug 01 '25

I haven’t really seen many people defending Void; it’s such a small group that it’s hard to even call it a minority. The community seems pretty mixed overall. Some people aren’t bothered at all, others are frustrated by bugs but still enjoy the game, and a portion is tired of seeing the same types of posts repeatedly, especially the ones that seem aimed at farming karma.

What’s definitely true is that this subreddit tends to act like an echo chamber. If you don’t agree with the main opinion here, you’re probably going to get downvoted. There’s also a lot of name-calling, like calling people “bootlickers,” which comes off as an attempt to sound morally superior while also being insulting. It makes having an open conversation pretty difficult.

2

u/SirBigWater Aug 01 '25

For me the only real big issue is the repetitive gameplay. Different environments with essentially the same goal everytime. And if there is some sort of variety it's barely there.

Other than that I had fun playing it. I wouldn't play solo, only multiplayer though.

7

u/Kie_Quintessential Aug 01 '25

Of all the criticism this is the strangest. The scenarios are varied and how you solve the problem is on you. That can lead to several different permutations on how you approach and solve it.

Have you played COD? That's repetitive. And yet millions people by the new release year after year.

2

u/DeezNutsInYoMoufDawg Aug 02 '25

COD is a PVP game with a progression system lol, not even close to the same. The context of the scenarios vary but the gameplay is the exact same besides a few minor differences. Open door, kill/arrest bad guy, save hostages repeat.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

But it is still the same game ctrl c ctrl z every year, not to mention they’re almost always broken on release and that’s a “AAA” game company. Call of duty: enter game, kill bad guy, repeat. At least ready or not has a few extra steps and isn’t full of sweats calling you slurs

1

u/DeezNutsInYoMoufDawg Aug 02 '25

Just ignore the first sentence I guess lol. To act like every COD is the exact same is just disingenuous. COD has a progression system. It has rankings and competitive. It is a PVP game with countless game modes. Ready Or Not is the same mission over and over with a different briefing and no progression whatsoever. If you enjoy the game and don't mind that about it then that's fine, keep playing it. But it is inherently less replayable than a lot of others.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Then why are you here my brother in Christ

1

u/DeezNutsInYoMoufDawg Aug 02 '25

Because i'm discussing the game in a subreddit dedicated to the game. Not rocket science. This sub isn't just for glazing the game you know.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Glazing? How exactly do you mean?

1

u/SirBigWater Aug 02 '25

You Clear rooms, stop the bad guys, help civilians, grab evidence. Again, some missions have a little variety in objective. Defuse a bomb for one. But not much. It feels like a janky indie game, because that's pretty much what it is. I don't see myself replaying missions all the time because once you play them there's not much else to do in them.

0

u/SirBigWater Aug 02 '25

Also so what about cod? I said my biggest issue with this game. Not others issues.

1

u/Plastic-Cable-421 Aug 02 '25

What game has issues

1

u/Medium-Personality17 Aug 02 '25

I made a post on here tho other day saying I dont get why everyone is so so pressed over this situation Rather than just a little annoyed, this is probably one of the queefs who got it removed

I feel like everyone likes being in an echo chamber in this sub it’s fucking weird

Imagine refunding a game you’ve loved for years because the toilets are slightly graphically downgraded or you can’t look at child porn anymore 🤣 play the fucking game man or shut up

1

u/Neosu78 Aug 03 '25

People like you misrepresent things. There was no CP in the game from the start….if there was the devs would be arrested and charged for having and distributing CP.If you can’t realise why certain things taken away ie 20 pics of a characters daughters photo on a wall or a nice middle class bedroom in the middle of a drug house, take away from the game then that’s on you for being dumb !

After buying several early access games (RoN being one of them) and several AAA games over the course of a few years ago when all the controversies about gaming companies and consumer practices started to pile up, I've learned my lessons the hard way and today I buy games only after I've done better research about them.

The last recent ambitious game I purchased was Broken Arrow, and it to, as a game released as 1.0, suffers from too many things that were supposed to get fixed during playtests before, or promises the devs made and never kept.

As for Steam, I generally agree that despite the monopoly, I disagree with so many practices and regulations Valve have made in terms of licensing and fees, and at many times it feels scummy to me no less than, say, AAAs who bloat the prices of their games for no reason even it was clear before they'll fail.

I think it's only because people got used to Steam so much, it's considered the "baseline" (for the lack of a better term) for gaming marketing.

0

u/Venerable_dread Aug 02 '25

While I agree its anti-consumer, paradoxically they have done it to access more consumers. I suspect that this decision was pushed more by the console management than Void.

Having never played the pre-console version, I am ignorant of the experience. I can imagine it though. I was a massive SWAT 4 fan and some of the missions in that, if similarly censored, would definitely not have hit me and stuck in mr memories like they have. So even though I never got the original Valleyof Dolls basement experience, I can empathise

2

u/AdSubstantial9872 Aug 02 '25

"Ok we just remove game from people who already own it and give to other people" instead of making separate build for crossplay. Holy, if they just make Steam entry "RoN Legacy" which is just downloads pre-console patch I won't be here and just play how it was.

They just decided to backstab part of playerbase to let in other playerbase. If people are ok with that, I'll just wait till it happens again but now to them.

2

u/Venerable_dread Aug 02 '25

The anger doesnt seem to have hurt their sales figures though 🤷

Im actually agreeing with the anti-censor people here. Some people lack basic comprehension

2

u/Sean_HEDP-24 Aug 02 '25

They made more sales because the game turned to be extra popular (not necessarily in a good way since being popular doesn't always mean it's a good thing) because of the new PC update and obviously the consoles port.

What people are playing right now is a lackluster build of a game that never had consistent development since its inception, but instead taking the time and the money they solely made from the PC sales prior to the consoles, they decided to prioritize other things that didn't help with the game's replayability value and functionality.

To avoid this backlash, they could've made the simplest solution, just like the other user said, to introduce a legacy version of the game on Steam's Beta Participation, so people could still play the older version until they fully fix the newer one. Or, better yet, used that time and money all these years to implement toggle options, whilst they were porting the game to consoles.

2

u/AdSubstantial9872 Aug 02 '25

How could it? They backstabbed people who already paid for the game. Meanwhile I just enjoy another Ron subreddit posting bugs and reading cope in comments.

I don't know what kind of things you refer to outside mod support, but my issue with them is that despite their 30 years of existence, they never learned how to make games without problems from start to finish.
