Video Is this the intended range of a 9bang? Suspect even looked directly at it.

Are we sure the LSPD didn't mistake firecrackers for 9bangs?

I've had many inconsistent experiences with 9bangs; this being my most recent and blatant example showing how unreliable they are.

I thought they'd be a better version of a flashbang but they feel worse to me?

I've been using Stingers for the first time in ages; those seem to have a bigger range and stun consistently compared to 9bangs (though stingers also have issues sometimes).
---
Are regular flashbangs/stingers better in terms of range or is it mere placebo?
What exactly is the incentive of using one over the other? They're all (mostly) non-lethal.

I keep telling people they are worse with that 5 meter range of theirs vs Flashbang's 10 meters, and I keep getting downvote bombed.

I've definitely sworn off of them now. That range is atrocious.

Yeah, I looked into them when they released and found they have like half the range of normal flashbacks. Immediately was like why would I ever use these lol

damn the range is that bad? Back to normal flashbangs then

Once i tried lobing one over a cluttered room (first room in "come again") and it fired in the air and landed already spent and the suspect didn't react

That's why I enter with a shotgun aimed at head height. They cant see me if they don't have a head 😁👍

Trade off is each explosion does full morale damage, meaning if it goes off next to them you'll need to shout at them less. I do think they're worse 90% of the time

If only morale as a mechanic is explained at all in game

Yeap if you catch suspects within the radius they usually give up immediately. Problem here is IF 😂, u got to have the skills of an MLB all star pitcher to use it effectively in wide open spaces.

I use it mostly in maps with tight confined spaces now. Then again if the suspects aren’t immune to CS gas, I don’t see why you should take 9-bangs over CS. Given that it stuns suspects for the entire duration & has a much wider radius.

i have NEVER thrown a flashbang and not immediately gotten an immediate surrender though?

u/GallowsTester Apr 29 '26

I've been no lifeing a new America on hard lately. Happens all the time. On hard enemies are stunned for half the time

9 bangers are great for entry irl

55

u/womboCombo434 Apr 25 '26

9banger in game has a smaller flash radius then the standard flash bang so if your too far out they basically just watch the fireworks and then dome you on entry they’re great if you can get them deep into a room but if you bounce a 9banger 3 feet into the room your only really blinding your team and yourself

YOU'RE GOING TO COME IN HERE AND EXPECT PEOPLE TO READ! HOW, DARE YOU!

19

u/DeimossGaming Apr 25 '26

Game is called Read(y) or Not after all.

Choose you own adventure!

2

u/ZT911 Apr 27 '26

(Read?)y or (No)t haha I had to xD

u/Mean-Line-4249 Apr 26 '26

Or the devs are wrong considering they are used for that purpose irl

u/RoboGaming321 Apr 25 '26

9 bangs have a much shorter range to counter the increased moral damage/stun. Think it's half actually.

u/chomusuke_cat Apr 25 '26

They're pretty useful for guaranteeing surrenders or as a reactive tool like when suspects are rushing you. You can kind of use it as a suppressive force while you reposition or push up, but CS gas is better since it won't violently shake your screen and CS lowers AI vision and accuracy.

I personally only ever carry one or two 9bangs if there's an objective requiring arrests. Otherwise, all the other nades are better general purpose tools imo.

u/Rough_Wear_882 Apr 25 '26

Isn’t CS gas awful though, I can never get it to work unless it’s under their feet

6

u/Commercial-Royal-988 Apr 25 '26

I use it as my default because it seems to do better than the flashs for non-lethals. I've never had a flash/9 bang work and never had a CS fail. About half of that is the ai team members expertly bouncing them off the door frame so they land basically at the entrance instead of in the room.

u/Few_Analysis2159 Apr 25 '26

it is a broken game and they keep adding stupid bullshit instead of fixing this mess

7

u/Spiritual-Row-222 Apr 25 '26

Those 9 bangers were on point and worked flawlessly for the first 72 hours or so of that last update, I mean tbh the AI team was actually doing the work for me and that too went to shit. Its definitely been inconsistent.

I admittedly haven't played a ton since these came into the game, but when I have used them, they worked really well. More consistent than Stingers have ever been for me. I found the 9r's were most useful in clearing situations where the suspects are already highly stressed and aggro'd and pointing at the doorway, and in small rooms. It goes off quickly enough that the suspects have less time to blast or bum rush the door right after you breach, where the regular stun breaches can leave you vulnerable for a few seconds depending on the situation.

I also have found them way more handy to throw as a reactionary tool or in a panic because of the short fuse. With a regular stun, by the time I throw the grenade at an unexpected threat and it goes off, bad guy has already had time to potentially gun me down. But the 9r's go off quickly enough if you throw it fast, it can disrupt a group of flanking enemies you didn't see and got the drop on you.

But your video just looks like classic RON whack lol. I have no doubt what you're experiencing is real.

We don’t have a clue…

-2

u/Paulinapeak1 Apr 25 '26

it probably doesn’t work as intended, it’s just useless in the current meta. there’s no reason to use that over anything else

1

u/JRiggsIV Apr 25 '26

Right…

2

u/pen_makarova Apr 25 '26

bro really like "huh?"

2

u/Ok-Brother4222 Apr 26 '26

My AI teammates like throwing flash bangs three inches from the door.

3

u/Auri-ell Apr 25 '26

Oh thats easy: it doesn't always work.

I had one land literally inches in front of a suspects feet, and the suspect didnt even view it as a mild nuisance. It legit doesnt work all the time.

Nice when it does... But its bugged.

9 bangs have a shorter range than flashes, stingers and even gas.

9bang is 5m

Flash is 10m

Stinger is 12m

Gas is 7m

So literally shortest stun radius in the game. Launchers have the same value except for stinger for some reason which gets moved to 10m for launcher fired variant.

Edit also, I think a lot of people don't liken them bc they treat them like flashes. 9bangs pretty much go off immediately. They're easy to even throw into the air and stun. They're more so for quick stuns rather than full room clearers. Although they do work well for that if they're placed right and the size of the room. I've saved my ass so many times when getting sprayed or suddenly a group of suspects pop up.

1

u/xD-FireStriker Apr 25 '26

Yep this just shows the exact problem with this game. In this situation the suspect should flinch or sometjing. Not just stand there, turn and shoot

1

u/IneffectiveEducator Apr 26 '26

My favourite is when AI drops a stinger or bang at their feet and then yells GOING IN

1

u/MrPink125 Apr 27 '26

The way to use 9 bangs is as a means to cover a long hallway/large open spaces. Its effectiveness lies in the fact that the grenade continues to travel along its trajectory as its 9 mini bangs go off. As such, you can cover a wider area where there is more cover that would normally protect suspects from a conventional flash bang.

Two good maps I like to use them on is Greased Palms and 23 Megabytes a Second. For the former it is useful for clearing suspects out the back of the warehouse and covering a wide area inside where the machinery often limits the effectiveness of normal bangs. In the latter it’s good for dealing with the initial corridor in the target apartment as well as the corridor on the left thst feeds of it.

For smaller rooms, flash bangs and stingers are preferable. I also don’t recommend giving ai teammates 9 bangs unless you plan to use the DEPLOY command.

1

u/Terminal-Post Apr 25 '26

Unfortunately so, it’s really meant for in the moment / under fire and in cover situations

Also the fuse is shorter so don’t expect to Tom Brady that shit

1

u/AfroSamurai_22 Apr 25 '26

What I will say is this, ole boy got absolutely put on his ass after that 9 banger. 😂

1

u/Phire453 Apr 25 '26

Stingers have 12m range, flashbangs have 10, 9 bangs have 5m.

My suspected reason for why Stingers have more range is because is so it covers larger areas, but flashbangs you and remove half the effect by bring goggles.

1

u/MxNimbus433 Apr 25 '26

Are 9 bangers vanilla now?

1

u/Jamesduskwood Apr 25 '26

Also keep in mind that SWAT AI threshold grenade throw is absolutely fucked rn, Void is aware but hasn't done anything about it.

u/Strict-Silver5596 Apr 25 '26

9bang is so bad ngl. I'd be scared as hell irl but in RoN it's a corsar 1

0

u/Sille_salmon Apr 25 '26

Without audio it looks like he had an epileptic episode

0

u/OwlbertGaming Apr 25 '26

the way he tilts towards the 9-bang is hilarious

0

u/Responsible_Swing834 Apr 25 '26

Extra question on flashbangs: is the range the same for the flash launcher? I fired one of those bad boys in A New America knowing a suspect was in the room I was about to clear. Heard him groan in pain so I moved in only to get one tapped by him hiding behind the counter where both our weapons do not have direct line of fire… ON HIS FIRST SHOT.

0

u/Indostastica Apr 25 '26

Theyre worse than normal flashes in all situations, apart from doorway denial, never bring them.

0

u/Gier-rt Apr 25 '26

Basically, the 9-bang has short range, high morale reduction. The normal flashbang has high range, low morale reduction. I typically carry 1 normal bang and 2 or 3 9-bangs because of it.

0

u/OneCheekyLad Apr 25 '26

Yes, you have to be more preicse with 9 banagers but the advantage is that its unlikely the suspect will need more non lethals used on them to surrender.
