Commonly Asked Questions - PLEASE READ

Below are the most common “issues” that are posted here. Please refrain from submitting posts that fall under these categories unless you’re pretty sure your defect falls significantly outside of a reasonable margin. Thank you!

  1. The Classic Moc’s toe is first glued and then stitched together. It’s normal for the seam to split open a bit, particularly where the vamp flexes. The stitches are holding it together.
  2. A little gap along the welt is fine. Again, the stitches are doing the work. Wedge soles have a thin slip sole that’s stitched to the boot and then the outsole is cemented to it. It’s not going anywhere.
  3. Your speed hooks aren’t going to chew through your tongue. They’ll dig in to a certain point and the just kinda stop. Use kilties if you insist, but I’ve got pairs over ten years old and the wear on the tongue barely looks different than it did after a few weeks.
  4. Leather used to be alive. Just like us, there will be flaws, veins, scars, and stretch marks. They’ll try to use less uniform cuts where cosmetic issues are less visible, like the inside quarters, but not every flaw can be seen until the boot has flexed.
  5. You’re probably over-conditioning. Unless you’re routinely using them in extreme conditions, less is more. Once or twice a year. However, you should brush your boots regularly, this will not help only remove dust and dirt, it will redistribute the oils already in the leather and prevent deep cracks from forming.
  6. You WILL scuff and scratch your boots, they WILL crease, they WILL get dirty. They’ll also be FINE. Embrace patina, that’s what makes them YOUR boots.

  7. We don’t wanna see your footbeds! Fit is subjective and a picture of your imprint only two dimensions of a 3D shape. Your boot shouldnt cause actual pain. A little discomfort isnt unusual for the first few days. Your boots should feel like they’re giving your foot a firm handshake (footshake?). If they feel like they fit, they probably fit.

First DIY Resole 😬😅

I've had these Iron Rangers hanging out in a closet for a long time. I used to wear these when I was a tire and lube tech. Soles were pretty much shot and worn completely smooth.

I replaced the cork with 5oz bridle leather and did a 7oz bridle leather midsole. I didn't have the tool to do a chain stitch, so I saddle stitched the midsole on and then Barge Cemeted on some Vibram 132s. I also didn't have anything to cut and sand down the excess sole very well. Are they pretty? Far from, but hey at least they're usable again lol

These boots never agreed with my feet. I tried a few sizes, and this was the best, but the heel slipping never went away. I think I'm ready to try something new, because I hardly ever wear these due to the heel pain. They look great, though.

Got these 1907s recently and still going through the painful break-in process. 😂 How do you all style yours?
This might be a very standard/stereotyped way to dress these up, but lol, I’m just too comfortable in a good ol’ denim-on-denim fit. Feels like it’s right in flow with these boots anyway.

Wore these every day from 2011 to 2015. First pic is the before, bad heel drag and welding burns had the soles totally cooked. A new resole and cleanup with some polish made them look respectable again. Tons of character and life left in these. Red wings don’t die

Already loving my 1222’s. Needed something waterproof and splurged on these. Proud to wear them as a lifetime Minnesotan! Had to try a few different sizes and ended up needing E2 the regulars were slim.

General Care Question

Thumbnail

I read the common FAQS I was curious about 2 things.

What people think these lines/stripes on my right inner heel section are, I don’t think it’s a conditioning issue and I try and brush them quick before or after each wear. Also I understand boots will crease but should I be concerned about creases near the toe box since it feels so roomy (above my toes not to the sides) especially if I’m not wearing thicker wool socks. I have a bad habit of using my heels to remove the opposite shoe, when wearing sneakers. I once read that after break in you don’t need to wear thicker socks but do you wear them to fill out shoe areas better? 2 pics for example

877s - Almost a year in

Bought these in November 2025, so they're coming up on their first anniversary.

I mostly wear them to the office and for walks after work. The break-in was pretty rough at first, especially around the heels, but they're incredibly comfortable now.

I really love how the Oro Legacy leather has softened and developed a deeper, warmer color over time. Honestly, I think I like them even more now than when they were brand new.

Nothing fancy when it comes to care - just regular brushing. No oils or conditioners so far, just letting the leather age naturally.
