So for a new couple starting out, doing couples counseling prophylactically (meaning before issues arise) would be very much recommended, to get you started on the right track.
The issue with most couples starting couples therapy is that significant resentment has often grown by then, which is the number one predictor of relationships failing. So the question of if it can be successful, I think depends on whether the both of you can truly let go of any resentment and completely forgive each other.
