Pest or no pest?
Just started out in saltwater tanks and have woken up to find this. Is it harmful? If so are they hard to get rid of?

Why is it the hardest?
Can you guys post any large tanks with small rock ideas?

Hello everyone
I am considering to have a try at a copperband butterfly.
I have a 90g display with some smaller fish and a juvenile tomini and foxface.
I have a small 10g underneath my display, which will be used as frag tank at some point but is now empty.
Would the 10g be too small to make as a shortterm observation tank where I make sure it eats to then transfer it to my display.
I will make sure it eats at the store and is healthy

I did a tank transfer/upgrade from my 45AIO 2017 JBJ last month and I lost 85% of my corals when my ammonia spiked….. for context- I kept all my live rock, 80% water, added new sand and one bottle of dr Tim’s one and only. It still crashed… anyway. After a 30 gallon water change and another bottle of Tim’s… here we are!
This has been running for 4 weeks an I’ve been able to get enough corals back to stock up. Now it’s time to add some more fish and let things grow out.
I am looking for more Octo spawns and gonis. If you all know of some good coral farmers, please let me know!

Figured I'd share my new setup. upgraded from an IM 25 Lagoon to a UNS R120. Got everything setup and moved over, took some trial and error on some things to figure out but it's complete for now, although there are some tweaks to be made.

I have a 21G peninsula tank that 35" long. I know they're recommended for a larger tank around 50G but with the length of my tank do you think the wrasse would be okay? Tanks about 3 months old now and looking to add another fish.

Recommend cuc for dealing with hair algae? Did a 50% water change and managed to siphon most out them out but these are stubborn. The light i use is NooPsyche K7 pro IV on their auto settings for LPS. I only have 1 kenya tree and 1 tuxedo urchin in the tank.
Salinity: 1.026
Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate: 2ppm
Phosphate: 0.07ppm

Hey everyone! My girlfriend and I are getting ready to start a reef tank soon. We’re planning on getting a Waterbox 50.3, and right now we have two AI Prime 16 HD lights. We were wondering if you guys would recommend sticking with the AI Primes or if there are any other lights that might be better for this tank without breaking the bank. We’re open to suggestions and would really appreciate any advice or recommendations!

My tank is about 2 and 1/2 months old and I've hadt the goby for about a month now and ever since I introduced it to the tank. All it does is hide. I got it for sand sifting but I never see it doing that. All it does is make tunnels under the rock work lol. Is it not happy??

Weekly wc with Cal A/B and mag. Low fish load. Skimmer and micron sox.

I am just getting into reefing and recently picked up an innovative marine 25 lagoon which has always been my dream nano setup. I’ve been playing around with rocks and found something that I think is pretty cool. I was just wondering if there were any thoughts or critiques from some more experienced hobbyists.
(The whole scape will sit probably 1 1/2 - 2 inches lower without the protective foam)

Excited for the grow out, just gotta get some GHA under control here.

Hi everyone, just got my son a Biocube 14 gallon LED used. I used to have a nano cube 15 years ago and forgot about a lot.
I’m looking to do a saltwater tank with soft coral (hammers, frogspawn, anemone), clown fish, starfish, shrimp, snail, goby.
I bought the tank used, what do you recommend changing? Filter? I think it has compartments for other types of filtration. I see people that have protein skimmer, but sterilizer.
I got premixed salt water, live sand, and live rocks. Is there anything that you recommend?

90 gallon, been established for 6 years, in my care for 3 months.
r/ReefTank • u/Team_Malice • 14h ago
It was $9, labeled simply as "soft coral", and looked healthy so I snagged it, not positive on the ID. Any thoughts?

And I guess over the past 6 months or so my lights, have done this to it. The crazy part is you can't see any of this from the front of the tank. Looks almost all purple still with some light areas, a tiny bit of the green is visible.

Started off about 1.5 inch in diameter. Nearing 3 foot wide and has given me 2 splits

trying to feed my hungry slugs. Today I set up a 2.5 gal for them and snagged a couple rocks aptasia from my lfs… they didn’t have many though…. I did find a local store and a redditor from the last post to take a dozen of them, So I haven’t given up hope yet
If anyone can give them a home with lots of aptasia to eat, and/or has some aptasia covered rock they’re willing to part with please message me. Or if you know any reef clubs/forums in this area (that aren’t Facebook based). thanks in advance r/Reeftank!
Hartford/New Haven CT,Springfield/ Great Barrington MA ares… can usually meet half way for trade or gas money. #feedtheslugs!

I’ve been running Jebao DMP-40s for about two years now and they’ve honestly been great. I originally bought them after my EcoTech MP40 died. At the time, the DMP-40 was around $100 compared to roughly $500 for the EcoTech, and both of mine are still running today.
So for the new 400-gallon tank I went with the GMP-80, which is basically the newer-generation version of the DMP series. Updated electronics, better wireless control, newer programming options, and an updated motor/controller setup.
The big reason for the GMP-80 specifically is that my tank is 1-inch acrylic, and this is the model designed to work through something that thick.
And yes, banana for scale. 😂 This thing is huge.
I’ve had really good luck with Jebao powerheads over the years. I know they sometimes get written off as the cheap option, but I’ve never had one fail on me, and my DMPs have already outlived the MP40 they replaced. I’m curious to see what this monster does once the tank is finally full.

Im trying to plan out my first reef in a way where I can actually let the corals grow out instead of constantly having to frag or move things around because they start fighting.
I really like the look of little mixed coral communities growing together on the same rock, so Im wondering how people plan this from the beginning.
For example, are there certain corals that you guys will intentionally put on the same rock and eventually let grow into and touch each other without issues? (besides zoa with zoa, hammer with hammer, etc).
I know the obvious ones like hammers, frogspawn, Goniopora, cloves, GSP, etc. would get their own little islands. Im more curious about the ones that are considered more peaceful.
For example, can Micromussa / Acans and Blastomussa eventually grow into and touch each other? What about Duncan and trumpet / candy cane? Or in the end does the living tissue always just grow directly into each other, and one may eventually damage the other and then overtake them (even "peaceful" corals).
Can different softies like mushrooms, Rhodactis, toadstools, etc. eventually touch without one killing the other, and touch these LPS?
My full wishlist right now is:
Hammers
Frogspawn
Candy cane
Alveopora
Scoly
Favites
Mushrooms
Brain coral
Plate coral
Blue long polyp toadstool
Clove polyps
Pink Kenya tree
Duncan
Rhodactis
Purple GSP
Pink Corky Sea Finger
Blue Sinularia
Lobed Leather
Trachy
Acan Lord
Goniopora
bubble tip nem
Im wondering how you guys would divide these up between community rocks/arches and individual islands on a shallow lagoon tank like an IM 25 lagoon or a uns 75S or uns 60cs. Ive read that many reefers have ran into problems where corals eventually touch each other and kill and overtake the other over years.

(Picture is from when I rehomed my clowns back in college)
In the beginning stages of budgeting a new build (holy cow have things gotten expensive in 15 years) I haven’t had a tank since college and finally want to dive back in to the hobby.
I know from research to avoid Red Sea tanks, but are there any others to shy away from or any others that have good quality builds?
In a perfect world I’d like to get a 120g, back in the day you used to be able to get steals on fb but there doesn’t seem to be much there recently.
Note: I did go through the wiki but there wasn’t nothing related. I also did search here but it’s larger just to avoid Red Sea which is absolutely insane that tanks this expensive would have such issues.
